New Hybrid car

I am thinking of buying a new hybrid car. I am thinking of Toyota corolla ascent sport hybrid about 30k. I am not very desperate to upgrade my current car. I am seeking advice on what is the best time of year to buy new car at a good price. How much discount do you usually get from dealer, does anyone use finance option and what are your experience on these. Anyone has experience in using novated lease.

There's no good time now, no sales due to lack of supply. This will also mean discount is minimal. You may get lucky and get Toyota's promotional 3.9% finance over 4 years if they continue this deal.

toyota + hybrid = likely RRP and around 3-6 mths wait for your order to come in.

If you are in no rush, then don't buy a car now. Wait a year or two or five and buy a fully elec car.

In fact that was my initial plan, I am driving a 2007 Toyota corolla. I was planning to drive that car for as long as I can until electric cars become more affordable. I am the type which see car as a transport from A to B. Someone asked me if I wanted to sell my current car recently. I had no intention of selling although it did prompt me to start thinking about getting a new car. I remembered even used hybrids were quite expensive when I bought the 2007 corolla, particularly the prius. After some market research, I found there is a few thousand difference between the 2021 corolla hybrid and the non hybrid. Also it has other features like a bigger screen to connect your google map from phone, reverse camera and save fuel. I made some calculation if I drive a hybrid for 10 years, I could almost save about 10k over 10 years or more if fuel becomes for expensive.

Don’t buy now I’d you don’t need to. Prices are high. As above, if your current vehicle is working well hold I out for an electric car in a few years. Unless your current ride is a gas guzzler you’ll save more in depreciation than you will in petrol costs.

None of the usual rules apply in COVID. Toyota hybrid = maybe free floor mats. There are waiting lists, so your leverage is effectively zero.

Actually I just did some search, is this the cheapest electric car in Australia? MG ZS EV ESSENCE, 43,990. May be I should wait for a couple of years, plan to bite the bullet if price comes down to about mid 30k. The current 60k price tag of tesla puts me off about affordability of electric cars in 5 years.

  • The hybrid version of MG is more expensive than the full electric version of MG.

Put in an order, initial delivery date was Apr 21 turned up mid Feb 21.
