  Be aware that this doesn't magically make your internet reach further unless the end-device can also transmit back at an equally high power (most can't).

  If your phone/computer/fridge can't transmit back to it then it's effectively one way communication which is useless for anything the average consumer would want.

    Of course the more you have the merrier. Fortunately many brands realised the average consumer doesn't know about this stuff and that's why there's so many mesh products on the market now.

        Backhaul on our U6-LITE and AP-AC-LR is megabit - ie Cat 6 Ethernet…

        So likely faster and more stable than WiFi backhaul, which is Mesh.

        They're not especially designed for it though. The specialised mesh devices run on a seperate wireless backhaul.

    At the same time, my wifi cameras around my house now have awesome connections after upgrading from my single wifi router to the router with wifi off and the unifi ap lr doing wifi. I also have wifi at the back of my yard, and in my garage of which I never had before.

      I'm pretty nooby with all the and am currently in the 'do it once do it right' camp regarding using technically obselete tech.
      But then again wifi 6e is apparently coming so that goes out the window.
      Or even the u6 pro that is in early access.

      It does seem that the u6 APs do have longer range when you use their creation centre though.

      I'm currently on the fence for u6 lite at $170 or u6 lr at $270

        Yeah seems kinda pointless jumping on Wifi 6 when 6E is around the corner and will make them redundant. It's a good time to take advantage of AC routers getting cheaper.

          @Clear: Good point, the range on even the u6 lite smashed the ac pro and ac lite in their design centre though which I found strange

          @Clear: AC will feel very dated soon. I am tempted to update my Cisco Aironet APs (AC) to a wifi 6 solution.

    Injectors are 10 bucks or so if you look on staticice, and U6-LITE is about $160

      Poe injectors for the long range require poe + with 48w and 24v, they are the $29 rrp ones at Ubiquiti

      Stand alone injectors are a pita and make the cabinet look messy, so much better when they're built into the switch. I recommend spending the extra and get a switch that supplies yoire devices with PoE out of the box.

  I have both the LR and Lite in my home. Cant really feel the difference. I could;ve used 1 AP for the entire house (duplex) and it will work fine for me. it's timber structure between levels, so WIFI can pass through much easier than slabs.

  If Slabs, two Lite APs will do fine I guess. I dont have matching devices for LR to work best with.

    The only real difference in terms of speed is that the Lite has a theoretical maximum of 300Mbps on 2.4Ghz, while the LR has 450Mbps. For home use like that you're not going to notice a massive difference if anything at all.

    Obviously the LR has a better antenna for better coverage.

      most of devices are connected over 5Ghz while IoTs are split between 2.4 and 5. good enough for most things in a residential setting.

      these APs are designed for SMEs with many devices. if i had a 2nd chance understanding my house structure better, I'd probably go for 1 Wifi 6 router thats it. It should cover all the indoor area with ease. I'm currently on 2 APs, POE Switch, Ubi controller the set! It's an overkill :P

  If you're using relatively new devices at home, the Unifi 6 lite is definitely worth it. Currently running 2x U6 lites and 1x AP AC lite. Wifi 5 to 6 feels like a big jump in performance. 6E is still a while away given ubiquiti's history.
