Adhesive Furniture Anchors (No Wall Damage)

Our young one is getting to the age of pulling themselves up on things so we need to do some more baby proofing. I am wanting to secure a few bookshelves to the wall without putting screws through the wall. I have seen only one adhesive only system but it is $20 for x1. Do you trusty Ozbargainers know of other ways or cheaper/batter than this?

I personally wouldn’t trust adhesives to secure a book shelf to a wall.

Do you not want to put screws because you’re in a rental?

    • You got it

      • You might be able to get an exemption and be allowed to put holes in the walls as it’s essential for you to provide a safe environment for your child. Might not put you in good standing with the REA and landlord though. I can’t say I’ve had any experience getting such an exemption but I do have holes all over the place where we’ve secured stuff for my kid that will have to be patched up one day.

Any adhesive strong enough to hold the weight of the furniture, it's contents and the child is going to damage the wall when removed more than a screw would.

Put a screw in the wall its fair and reasonable to expect a few small screw holes in the wall when you move out.

Its likely an adhesive system will rip more paint/damage the wall than a small screw hole.

Do you understand how physics work ? What you are asking for is an impossibility. If that $20 system works it would be a physics defying spectacle. Considering it has no reviews i wouldnt trust it at all. Especially with the safety of your child.

    • How do "physics work?"

      • According to the law of physic, obviously. Unless they are breaking the law.

Another option is to screw or attach with strong 3m tape, a couple of large metal L brackets to the front of your bookcase which prevents tip-over

    • Ahh I didn't think of screwing some L brackets into the front. I will do that now thanks!

  • Just put heavy books on the bottom and minimal weight at the top.

Apply this formula to items around the house to find how dangerous they are to your child.

    v2 f = v2 i + 2a∆x vf

Go to bunnies and grab a wall stud detector (like https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-50mm-stud-detector_p566075…) as you need to put the screw into a stud otherwise you may end up with a huge hole in the plaster.

Do not use adhesive, unless it is rated for the weight of the loaded bookcase and your child as a minimum, which it will not be or you will need so may that it will cost you allot.

      This
Just patch the wall at the end of your rental. Not hard to do.
