Woolworths Online - Item Available in Store but I Cannot Order Online?

I went to Woolworths' website to order something online but when I go to check out, I get the message "Your location affects some items in your order. Please update to continue.".
However, if I use their same website to check for stock of this item, it tells me my local store/s have stock.

Why would it not let me order these items online?

  • Are you logged in?
Is your local store set correctly?

    • When logged in, it tells me the item is unavailable.
If I log out, look up the item and check stock, the site tells me my nearest store has item.
If I put in my postcode for pickup, it the site doesn't even show me my local store (even though I know they do click & collect).

try ordering it for click and collect or boot pick up instead of delivery.

  • I’d recommend you using the app instead..

Somehow inventory levels on the app are more real-time than the actual woolworths website on a browser..

    • Thank you for this suggestion.
The app was at least able to find my local store for pickup. Still wouldn't let me choose delivery for these items, though…

      Pretty poor system they have.

Thats coz the store closest to you or the one that their back-system would be pairing your delivery order up with, probably doesn’t have those specific items.. thats the problem with delivery orders:- unless you live close to a big supermarket, its hard for you to get everything you need..

What I generally do is, set my pickup store to the woolworths chadstone/Oakleigh south as they are the biggest stores in the 15 km radius from me and generally they are almost always the ones that have almost everything in stock..
So then that allows me to add everything that I need to my cart. Once I have done that, I then go back and toggle between pickup stores that are more closer to me, whilst checking which store has everything or almost everything that I want..
Once I find the supermarket that can supply everything that I need, I place a pickup order with them

Also This way you don't have to check the store availability for each product individually

FYI, if you place an order tonight worth $120 or more
Try the promo code ‘20again’ , to potentially get $20 off your order.

Not all orders come from the nearest supermarket, some come from the distribution centre; and not everything is available there - I usually find some deli items aren't.

I find changing the delivery time to one serviced by the smaller vans gets me a delivery from the supermarket instead and that changes what is available.

  • This happens to us ALL the time when we order for pickup. The other day the website said my local Woolies had no chicken breast at all (and, we weren't in lockdown!).

    • Same for me. Said no milk though wtf.

  • I was told by Woolworths a delivery with small vehicle / partner driver could get around the "Your location affects some items in your order"
As the order will come from the local store stock not the delivery hub stock.

I had to do this during the full lockdown in 2020 to get may items that my delivery hub had no stock showing

    • How do u choose this option?

    As others have already said:

For pick-up (in-store or direct-to-boot), availability is determined by what the store has in stock.

For delivery, availability is determined by what the distribution centre has in stock.

Can also depend on when you order, as I believe with pickup it is literally what is in stock at the time you order: so some items may show as temporarily unavailable, but if you walk into the store when you pickup the order they'll have some sitting on the shelf (from that day/night's restocking).

  • I've just come across something similar which is new to me. Certain items are greyed out with the label "Available in store only". The items aren't cigarettes or anything restricted, they are things like lamb shoulder and a jar of pickles. Things I've had delivered before no problem. I changed from delivery to pick up and it was still the same items greyed out.

Anyone have any idea what's going on here? Seems pretty weird to be restricting certain items arbitrarily to in store only, especially during covid.

  • Heads up, Chocochino is available online for delivery, but not stocked in 2 stores that i used to be able to buy them from.
I cant get a definitive answer from the website where its actually in stock.
