St George to Hit Credit File Again for Credit Card after Mortgage Settlement

So, had the refinance settlement yesterday and then I called St George to apply for a credit card. On enquiring whether they will hit my credit file again, they said yes. This surprised me cause usually banks (most) would not hit the credit file again within 90 days from first hit. Thats what happened with Macquarie bank (earlier lender) , they didn't hit the file for credit card after settlement. I have worked in couple of banks , both have the same policy i.e credit score is valid till 90 days for assessment.

St George got my score 45 days ago, now decided not to apply for a credit card.

I understand every bank has different policies, but St George policy ( Westpac) sucks.

Sorry bit of a rant :)

It’s not really that big of a deal if they hit it again.

    • Well yes and no. One more hit means the score will come down, and with most of the banks now doing auto assessment, my application may get rejected or could go for manual assessment.

I am concern cause I churn credit cards.

I know.. Not end of the world. The score will climb up again, like I said bit of a rant hehe.

If you're worried about your credit score going down when they assess you for a credit card, dont churn credit cards??!

For me this is a missed opportunity of getting a card without additional hit to the file.

    You asked.

    They answered honestly and clearly.

If you don't like the answer, take your business elsewhere.

Not being able to apply for a CC is not worth ranting.

Like I said above, missed opportunity. Which is equivalent to 90k qantas point (approx 400- 450 dollars)

Go to the ANZ deal then.

        • Just applied mate.. Hehe

  • Credit score means nothing anyway. Hammer away with enquiries all you like IMO. The worst that can happen is you get declined for credit you don’t need. Big whoop.

  • its a tiny hit, dont lose sleep over it.

  • ANZ hit me 4 or 5 times over about 6 months just for one mortgage application with a delayed settlement.

  • Who cares if they do another credit check… it will literally have very little impact if any. I have 15 enquiries in 2 years and my score has not changed.

I just did a refinance in May with St.George as well and applied for a credit card too. The broker told me that it will not hit the credit file and i can confirm when i checked through experian. I can only see the enquiry for the refinance

    • Thats great.. I have written to my broker after reading your message.. Fingers crossed :)

      • So broker checked with St George and they said same thing to him. They will hit the file:(

  • Applied Coles and hsbc credit cards, both hit but didn’t affect any credit score…

    • Lucky you…

My score dives a lot.. After Anz application (whoch got approved.. Woohoo), the equifax score came down by 100 points..

I got one hit by Westpac, credit savvy drop 100 points but it was back in next month. So don’t worry
