Hi all,

Just came across an (up to) 15% off Samsung products via Westpac.
Think it might be targeted for those Westpac customers holding certain credit cards, but, manage to score a new Note 20 Ultra 5G, 256gb, 12gb, dual sim for $1125. (Cheapest I've seen anywhere!)

Plenty of other Samsung products up for grabs so looks like a good deal!

*Note: need to log into your Westpac online banking account, then click on offers, then through to the Samsung site link.

Hope this helps anyone else looking at a new phone, or Samsung gear.

Sorry - my bad! First post for a deal. Thanks for the update!

Nice find OP, Keep them coming :).

        • Cheers!

  • Do they sell the dual sim with the snapdragon chip

    • Sadly not in this case - it's the Samsung chipset.
Regardless, it's a great price (imo). I wanted the local AU warranty cover, so at $1100 made sense.

You could use $50 samsung voucher for further discount.

        • huh? voucher?

        • Would be good if one eventually came through via email…but not looking like its going to happen unfortunately

  • Galaxy-S20/Galaxy-S20-FE-5G SM-G781BZBIATS
    $679.15

Is this one the snapdragon chipset? That is the better one isnt it?

Different handset - the OP is for the Note 20 Ultra. Its the big boy in the Galaxy range. Not the S20.

  • +1

Isn't the s21 ultra better at the same price (if you can get trade in offer)?

    • Id say, depends on what you consider 'better'. I'm a Note lover, as I use the stylus all the time. While the S21 can use an S-pen, it does not have the ability to carry within the device. I also like the larger screen real estate. Guess your either a Note, or S user if you in the Samsung camp.

No trade offer included with this one.

  • Starting to get very annoyed by mobile phones not getting updates beyond 3~4 years. Realistically the recent phones have specs that would easily outlasts that time horizon. Part of the reason why the phone depreciates so fast - seems to be depreciating faster than new cars in percentage terms.

What do you guys do with your phone once it stops receiving updates? Are customs ROMs the way to go or are there other ways to continue getting updates once the manufacturer stops updating?

Just how unsafe is it to continue using the phone when security updates stops? Appreciate if someone in the know can share their thoughts

Samsung promised 3 major OS updates for All galaxies starting s10 series.

My lg v20 hasn't had an update in many many years and I have had no issues if I were to still use it.

      • This where I was lost. Sure the phones still work without updates, so what are the updates supposed to protect us from?

Most of the cellphone network is behind CGNAT which would have filtered attacks from the internet. How are the attacks arriving on the phone if it didn't have up-to-date security updates. Or is it more of malware that are infesting Google Play Store so we are okay to keep using out of date phones as long as we stay with mainstream and safe apps?

    • My phones are usually, well and truly shagged by 3 yrs, so turn them over after 2yrs +/- and then they become a backup device for whatever is stored on them… lol…
Did the custom ROM thing in the past, but can't be bothered when they crash etc.

    • Google is planning for 5 years of software updates. Something we haven't seen on Android after all this years.
Custom ROMs aren't bad or unsafe if you get the right one. Actually de-googled ROMs provide more privacy than official ROMs or even iPhone.
Software updates are good for peace of mind and sometimes they release some small but really useful features which might stops you from upgrading your phone just to get that feature.

      • I do appreciate having the Android OS updates since after 3~4 years some apps starts to become unavailable to the old Android OS.
Seems the benefits of the security updates are a little bit less obvious.

  • thx OP. Purchased 4g version from Jbhifi for $999 on 3rd june, would i be able to return to the store? if so i can get this for extra Ram and future proof.

    • I'd imagine that's unlikely if it's opened… Not sure if you're serious…?
Maybe get new and sell the old on gumtree or eBay?

      • forgot to mention, its still unopened. bought it for wife and then realised its 4g only. so was waiting for a better offer else to return.

        • In that case, I'd try to call a couple of nearby stores if you can and see if one will take it back.
"It's not the 5g version I thought I was buying" might be a reasonable reason to return. But I'm not sure.
If it's unopened, you might have a chance of one of the stores doing so.
Have you been unable to get back to the store because of C-19? (hint…hint)

          • @mickyb80: legend, will try tomorrow.

            • @hopper: btw - if the store says yes. I'd jump on and then get the Westpac offer before going to the store. Hate for you to return it, then go to buy the new Note and there not be any stock left on the site… aaaahhhh bummer!

        • As long as it is not opened, you can return it.

  • I'd rather get the S20 for much cheaper. How many people would even need a Note 20 over the S20?

    • +1
    • I like pens… what can i say?!? = Note device.

  • +1

    One other note all.

There is an exp date on the $150 bonus discount:

"A discount of $150 has been applied to your cart. Offer ends 18th July 2021! Promotion applied to your product in cart"

  • Available on other portals?
    Is this historical low?

  • Can anyone help to purchase?

  • Think it might be targeted for those Westpac customers holding certain credit cards

I don't have a Westpac credit card. Though my home loan and debit card is with Westpac. And I got this very offer.

  • Isn't note 21 just around the corner, I assume note 20 price will drop alot after that

    • Likely no Note release this year (sadly), as Samsung will be focusing on releasing its Fold 3. May push me personally to wait for the Pixel 6 (Pro)

    • There is talk there won't be another Note at all, let alone this year/soon.
Either way - even if there is a release, at $1100 for a 5g dual sim Note 20 ultra is about as cheap as I can imagine it will get for a brand new AU Sammy unit. Even if it drops to $1k or just under, still a crazy price for anyone (like me) that wants one now I think.

      • is this one dual sim though? i thought others said its single only

        • Not sure what you mean? "one dual sim"?

Search the model on the Sammy AU site and it's a dual sim.
          It's also listed on the EPP/Offer site: "SIM size: Nano-SIM (4FF), Embedded-SIM" - which means, 1x Nano-Sim + 1x eSIM (therefore 2x sim).

If it's a single sim only - then it's going back.

If your not with a major carrier, or one that offers eSim connectivity, then yes, you can only use 1x until the carrier (VMO) accepts eSim. In which case, your carrier isn't likely to offer 5G connectivity and you may as well just get a 4G version.

        • @Zitane - 100% confirmed as a dual sim.
          1x eSim + 1x microsim.
Both working together with the microsd card too.

  • great deal thanks for the post OP

    • No prob. If your after one - the extra $150 discount ends next week.

      • Bought one for wife, not when i try to buy other for her sister, discount is not showing up. Is it only 1 time offer? Shows 1274 at checkout

        • Think the $150 promo might have been pulled early. Can't see it now either.
          $1274 is still cheap!

        • Wait - hold that!

In the promo box at check out use: SAVE150

Mine arrived today. Haven't set it up yet, but it appears to be an eSIM + 1 Micro Sim. So before powering it up, I'm believing it's Dual Sim as per the model ID.

        • @hopper - all set up and 100% dual network/dual sim handset.
          1x eSim + 1x Micro and working!
(empty tray spot for your mSDcard too)

Hope you managed to sort out the second phone with the promo code.

          • @mickyb80: Worked. Shame that boost doesn't support esim :(

            • @hopper: Aaahhh damn man… only a matter of time hopefully!
Do you need dual in that case?
I'm running 1x VHA and 1xTelstra… Maybe use VHA/Optus/Telstra for the eSim if your going with a second?

              • @mickyb80: I'm on 356 day plan on boost. Second sim is from India (need that for maintaining my bank account for OTT payments and logins like hotstar disney plus and youtube premium which are cheaper 😊 )

  • OOS

    • I blame those leaches from that OzBargain website! ha!

I'm sure they still have plenty of S21's, folds, and Z still…?

Not to mention all the other extra Samsung stuff that was there…

      • Really looking to buy monitor, shame to discount on them

        • I want to get myself a G9 49", but they are not listed or discounted. sucks!

          • @mickyb80: So sold note just now and ordered from JB for $999.
Glad I didn't open it till now

            • @hopper: Oh you sold the old phone instead of taking it back?

The $999 one at JB is a carrier version. If you are happy with that, all good!

Did you get one from the Westpac deal the other day?

              • @mickyb80: I got the deal from westpac 1124, didn't open it yet, so sold it.
And ordered one from JB. I will go to
Samsung store and they will load the non carrier version software for free.
Is been more than 2 weeks, so yeah can't return

                • @hopper: ah, got ya.
fair enough. no way i'd be bothered doing that. ha! a lot more patient than i.
