Sonos Arc Soundbar $1329.05 C&C/ in-Store/+ Delivery @ JB Hi-Fi ($1196.05 Price Match with Sight+Sound & Coupon)

120
925FIVEOFFJULY

For those who's been eyeing a deal for this good boi. I managed to secure a killer price of $1076.44 which I believe one of the cheapest price.

Here's what I did:

*1 Contacted JB and requested them to price match Sight and Sound Galleria for $1259
*2 went in-store and provided a 5% off coupon, which brought down to $1196.05
*3 Paid with 10% off gift cards from the recent deal, which ended being $1076.44

It's a good deal only if you can take advantage of the price match.

In case if they refuse to price match this store for being a small player, you can also price match with others for $20-$30 more such as Premier Hifi, Addicted To Audio, or Videopro.

Just for those looking for alternatives. The Samsung 11.1.4 released this year is $1250. Read up on Ozbargain

    • It was advertised for $1199 few days ago from Appliance central on the ebay. I managed to get price matched by the Goodguys (about a week ago) to use the extra 7.5% gift cards. Worked out to be $1109 for free click and collect.

Moving house soon so didn't open yet.. Can't wait to test it..

      • Mind sharing where you’re getting discounted good guys cards??

        • It's through my work. It's called smartspending Rewards Gateway program. Normally goodguys is at 5% discount on GC's, but they had 7.5% special couple of weeks ago. So pulled the trigger once i got the price matched

      • do you mind sharing the receipt without your SN. i want to try get Harvey norman to price match

I got it for 1217 appliance online ebay store. Pretty nice system my only issue is the overhead sounds don't work well if at all.

I might need some better adjustments but as stock not that good for the overhead sounds. But from what I've read it's the best you can get in soundbars.

    • What's the model. I'd like to check it out. Or better yet a link?

  • Ahhhh, sonos.
    I used to sell it!

These days; if you're a DIY person,
    Arylic Up2Stream exists.

Acceptable soundbar + an Arylic can be sub$200.
Power the board off the soundbars USB port, and done.

    Amazing multiroom sync too.

    • Acceptable soundbar + an Arylic can be sub$200.

your definition of an 'acceptable' sound bar clearly isnt in the same realm as something like a sonos arc for audio quality if its sub $200

You're implying I only consider the sonos acceptable though.
Where, in fact, I'd consider a sonos sound bar as more than just acceptable, wouldnt you?

I'm not that elitist to pretend a $1k soundbar is just 'ok'. (Though I am a valve amp guy who winds his own drivers; so, I'd still consider myself an enthusiast).

That said, the latest range by Yamaha is commonly sub $200, and is going to please the sort of people whos primary source is streaming.

Also quite impressive is the new Stage range by CreativeLabs.

Clearly the sonos has a very specific target market ; which im sure they'll nail, as usual (as I said, ive done their training, including sales).

Though, considering their name is synonymous with the 'multi room audio' feature, combined with the knowledge that most (clearly, not all) soundbar users are looking for a middle-ground solution between TV speakers, and some decent bookshelves or floorstanding speakers? Yes, what I consider 'acceptable' becomes quite flexible, until a customer further clarifies their desire. Plus, a true 'multi room' competitor with the same ease of use is rare.

        Horses for courses.
If someone is looking for an 'acceptable soundbar' and they want the sonos features, not specifically their flavour of audio (many elderly customers commonly expressed a dislike for the boosted low-mids in the play5, for example, as it really highlights the 'mud' in early rock'n'roll recordings); Arylic is worth being aware of, hence mentioning it.

  • Hi where did you get the 10% off gift card and are they still available?

Do I ask them to price match it then tell them to put the 5% off?

Also how did you contact them was it phone?

    • 10% off gift cards from the recent Coles deal. I would first get them to price match and then use the code in the end.

      • Is this in person? How do I get them to use a code in person

        • Just mention the code at the counter just before you pay.

Sonos have developed a bit of a reputation of treating their customers as mugs. They have a proprietary system and have deliberately bricked older systems so they can't be resold. There are so many better alternatives not sure why anyone would willingly offer up their hard earned for companies like this.

Are sound bars really worth it when you can buy a decent 2.1 or even 5.1 speakers for the same or lesser price? Other than saving space, what advantages do you get?

    • Yeah that's what I thought. I ended up just buying a 5.1 Sony set for 3 or 400$ during prime day sales. Just being 5.1 alone should surely mean that performance is a lot better. Only problem is a bunch of wires everywhere, so I ended up getting a half just to hide the wires underneath

      • so I ended up getting a half just to hide the wires underneath

Please pardon the ignorance but what did you mean by "getting a half"?

Agree a bunch of wires running everywhere is a bit unsightly. And a lovely tripping hazard.

        • sorry haha mistype, supposed to be "ended up getting a rug half just to hide the wires underneath"

          • @Kingfield: Clever easy solution, without going down the route of drilling holes in flooring or ceiling, or routing cables around skirting boards, etc.

Yes, if you want a good audio quality, fuss free setup, wire free 5.1 audio (Additional cost and additional speaker required), minimalistic setup. Yes it does when you think about the amplifier and speakers that you would normally need in order to do what this does.

Not saying this is the best audio, but for someone who wants minimalistic setup say in living room, this is worth it. You go buy a decent AVR and decent speakers and it ends up costing just as much. Cheaper AVR and cheaper speakers leaves you just wanting more.

      • How about the big boys like S3000 pro for half the price instead of sound bar?

        • +1

Sure! Why not? if that suits your purpose go for it.

Don't think its impossible to have a good experience with them, its just that their philosophy as a company seems to be greed driven and forcing obsolescence on their products, turning them into hard rubbish. And it's in a product category in which there are quality alternatives available that are better made, of higher quality, last much longer and can even be resold.

    • Looking at speakers currently, care to expand on alternatives that should be considered?

  • I didn’t think price matches qualified as deals?

Is this soundbar crazy expensive - yes
Worth it - to me yeah.

Do you need to drop another $1.5k to maximize it - yep.

Get the sub and 2x rear play one surrounds (buy em off eBay second hand cheap though!)

I’ve had it for 6+ months now and loved every minute of it.

I’ve also got almost a dozen sonos devices, they work together magically. Worth the cost in a heart beat and they will last you decades! Mine are getting close to that now!

  • Link to receipt is broken.

  • this or $399 playbar? is it worth the difference?

already have playbase, play1 and sub.

    • Probably $399 playbar. Just check the features and see whether the features of the arc justify the increased cost. I'm betting no.

      • the playbar works only on the old app but was able to pair it with sub gen2. i have not heard the sound of arc, not sure if its 3x better.

        • That's wrong, the Playbar supports the new app. According to the website and my first hand experience.

          • @Nuggets: i dont know, but new app will not see the playbar. its wired to the same network where playbase and sub are connected.

            • @Farrba: Get help from Sonos support.

              • +1

@Nuggets: tried the android s2 and it sees the playbar.

really happy with my setup, got the playbar two subs and play1 for $1500…

                • @Farrba: Two subs??? Surely a typo haha

                  • @Nuggets: yup 499 each, 399 for playbar and 99 for play1. still looking for another play1. can we pair play1 with one sl?
