Purchased one of these about a month ago for $370 from Bing Lee. Although it doesn't have the upwards facing speakers for true Atmos, it still does a great job with the Atmos simulation. The Ray Danz technology really does a good job bouncing things off the walls and after a lot of research on the Sony/Samsung cheapies I found this to be a better sounding and cheaper option.

Of course, when it's reviewed at its $799 RRP and compared to other bars at the same price it will be, but at this price, you won't find anything to beat it!

Also, it should be noted that on launch there was an issue with the sound levels and lag. These have been rectified with updates.

Was originally longing for a YAS 207 but cannot ignore this price so I pulled the trigger, thanks OP.

    Average RTings score

better off with a Samsung Q60t for a similar price

I think the reason for the poor score is mainly because of Atmos being downsampled to stereo which is obviously going to happen considering it has no speakers for the height channels. They also mention it doesn't get loud enough? Have to disagree with that one (this may have been fixed with the software update).
Could you link the Samsung bar you mention so people can compare?

This is an interesting review of something of the same dollar value. Although the cheapest I can find the Sony, it's twice the price of the TCL.

Other than a refurb at $299, I can’t see any Q60T’s near the TCL price?? Happy to be corrected as the Q60T looks nice, otherwise the TCL looks like pretty good value to me.

    • Q60t is around 450+?

    • Chromecast and airplay support. Nice.

  • This or HS312 by Hisense?

    • I got the hisense 312 for the office TV and TBH I was a bit disappointed. Just seems to lack something.. I don’t know if the TCL will be any better, but I think I’m going to give it a try.

    This or Sonos beam?

    • Different league, bro. Two of these = one beam, no?

      • Just curious, if the price WAS the same, what would people go? That's all.

        • Beam

  • Sonos if someone else is paying

I have this and it’s awesome

  • How does this compare to the Sony 3.1ch Dolby Atmos HTG700, Thinking of buy the Sony xr65 and get $400 off the bar?

    • I'd expect the Sony to have slightly better sound quality if you put them side by side but wouldn't pick it normally as they both don't have upward's firing speakers and simulate ATMOS. Sony probably has better build quality but that's why you pay the extra.
Features-wise, the TCL doesn't support DTS:X but does have a lot more quality of life features such as wireless streaming and all that.

  • Does the volume control for this work through ARC? I have a beam and find the ARC connection pretty flakey - sometimes you turn the tv on and both the tv audio and the beam speakers are playing the same audio (Echo). Most times, it recognises the beam is connected and pushes all audio to the beam and deactivates the tv speakers, but if not, you have to turn both off at the wall. Annoying.

    • Yeh welcome to the world of CEC it's a flaky standard. Seems like sonos has more problems but maybe it's the TV also.

  • Getting worried about the cashback eligibility… need to claim 21 days within purchase, but item hasn't been shipped yet.
They've got 7 days to get it to me. I checked with their support if they can reinvoice when shipping, and they said:

If you are unable to submit the claim in time, please advise us so we can check with our management for the options.

I assume they'll just say "management says sorry, have a nice day".

  • Does anyone know if this has a IR repeater? With the height of the soundbar, it looks like it'll block IR receiver on the TV.

    • I bought a large tile from bunnings and used egg cartons to lift the TV. $4.99 but I'm also a bogan
