Office/Gaming Chair Recommendations to Help with Bad Back?

Hey guys,
Looking at picking up a proper office/gaming chair to look after my lower back a bit more as I have a herniated disc that's starting to cause me trouble. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the Ergohuman range, specifically the Ergohuman Elite Mesh;

It looks similar to a herman miller (although no where near as pricey) but i'm wondering if the quality is still there for the price that it is.

The other brand of chair I was looking at was Anda Seats. They seem to be more the "gaming" chair style which I've heard aren't all that great. The one I'm looking at is something like this;

A friend has one and rates it but i'm not sure if I'm then just paying extra $$ for that gaming chair hype.

Any recommendations on an actual good chair that will help with posture while being comfy? My budget is about $1000 tops. Thanks!

    Steelcase Leap

    Herman Miller Aeron

    • This. I had a fractured tailbone and seating on a cushioned seat aggravated the pain. I bought a second-hand aeron and the pain went away.

  • I have a Herman Miller Sayl chair and my experience with after sales support has been woeful. It took me close to 12 months of going in loops with Herman Miller Australia and Living Edge just to get a qoute for a lumbar support. I also had to have a replacement part shipped from the retailer I purchased from in Brisbane as the VIC dealer refused my warranty claim even through HM literature says you can go to any HM dealer for warranty repairs. Something to consider seeing as their supposedly amazing warranty support is part of the justification for the high purchase price.

    I would suggest trying them out before buying. The Steelcase Leap is recommended a lot, but I own one and it's really not that comfortable. I find it too small, the backrest is not high enough, lack of neck support is not good either (they very rarely come up for sale with the neck rest). Tried the Herman Miller Mirra before that, and it is a heavy, ugly and uncomfortable chair too. Really don't think it is healthy or comfortable to be seated in any chair for long periods of time, so I might look into a standing desk.

  • Those are good chairs but, particularly due to you back issues, you should really test drive them to find the best one for you, and not buy them sight unseen

  • Speak to your chiro / physio - ask for their input.

    Remember that a nice chair is awesome, but wont actually fix back problems.

    Also, keep an eye out on facebook for used furniture companies that liquidate furniture from closing down businesses - you can usually get a Herman Miller Size B with arms for about $600.

  • I don't know if the ergo is any good but I can tell you my aeron is incredible. If you can't swing it new try and look for a 2nd hand one.

    It's a truly incredible chair and should effectively last forever.

  • With that budget just go an Aeron.

  • Can you stand fine? If so, consider a standing desk option.

  • I bought a secretlab neue chair
