Using Two Phones Same Sim?

Silly question here but it's not possible to have two of same sim to use in two phones?
I want to use a Samsung for work and iphone non work so i take i can only swap over the sim on wherever phone i wish to use?
Or my other option is to use a cheap sim and use to different numbers.
But personally one number is enough for me, but i do with to use both phones.

    No

    • Thought the case

  • Depending on the type of sim card it is technically possible to duplicate them. Not sure if legal? Behaviour with duplicate sims in 2 phones might be quite weird though.

Having two phones, one for work and one for non-work, wouldn't work if you had the same number. You would still get work calls regardless of which device you have with you.

I don't think you have read @Marcsie's comment carefully.

You know, the part of the car that actually holds the petrol.

You can physically swap over the SIM - but it will be a pain in the arse to do so (and will wear out the SIM slot poking the little tool into the hole to extract the sim numerous times).

One option would be to forward the work number to your person phone after hours?

    • Yep, just forward to your most known number, or use WhatsApp or Telegram etc. or you can get a Skype number for a few bucks a month.to anywhere.

can someone explain how eSIM works? Is that an option at all?… but would still be a pain 'de-registering' one device and 'registering' another device each swap.

    • Yes i was thinking same esim but i believe its more for watches etc not phones i dont know much about them or looked it up, and reason i asked about having same sims in different phones ie esim whatever they are for.

      • the eSIM is generated from the devices unique IMEI so to move the number would require the number provider to re-register it. Not sure they are going to be doing often and quickly for you.

  • Here’s a look at some eSIM phones in Australia:

iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, 11, and 11 Pro
You can get these iPhones from Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone, and use their eSIM support with those telcos.
Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Fold, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
You can get all of these Samsung eSIM-capable phones from Vodafone. Telstra and Optus also sell all of these Samsung eSIM phones, except the Galaxy Fold. However, you can purchase the Galaxy Fold unlocked from another vendor to make use of Telstra and/or Optus eSIM plans.
    Pixel 3, 3 XL, 3A, 3A XL, 4, 4 XL
You’ll find these eSIM phones on Telstra and Optus. You can also purchase them from other vendors and use a Vodafone eSIM plans.
    Huawei P40, P40 Pro
None of Australia’s major telcos currently carry the Huawei P40 or P40 Pro. However, you can purchase them elsewhere and use their eSIM plans.
    Motorola Razr
The Motorola Razr is available on Telstra and Optus. You can also purchase it elsewhere and use Vodafone’s eSIM plans.

  • Sort of…
    Its technically possible, yes.
    But, not offered.

What is offered by some telcos (like Voda, Optus and Telstra) is number sync. This allows for 2 devices to receive calls for the same number.
It's used when you have a smartwatch with telco connectivity.

I have a dual sim mobile. Used for personal and work sim. 2 in 1.
My personal sim also rings my smart watch at the same time and not via bluetooth, but via the network.

You could also just get the 2nd number and divert from one to the other.

You can also just use the same 1 sim on two different phones. If different size, there is an adaptor on the credit card size sim holder usually. precut cut out.

The issue you have with the '2 sims/2 phones' is each sim has its own ID, as does a phone its called an IMEI.
This is where the telcos wont allow for the 1 number to connect to 2 physical sims. Only way is the smartwatch with a esim.

I think this is what you are talking about…

    • Ok looks like I just have to swap sims from time to time.

      • Yep!

Hope my response helped and made sense…

        • Yes it did I sort of hoped what I asked was possible but it’s not and was curious what the esim was about.
