Reposting this deal as they have more stock - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/625556

Seem like a pretty good deal. Someone in the previous deal who had bought them suggested that they were better quality than others but I can't really comment.

Edit: Removed reference to a possibility disposable masks can be recycled at supermarkets now.

No, you cannot recycle used face masks in the soft plastics (plastic bag) recycling bins at supermarkets.

  • No you can't. Mask is medical waste. Recycle bin doesn't take it
And NO, this kind of cheap ebay disposable masks isn't surgical mask, It gives you ZERO protection against virus.

    • But will it help me do awesome skids in a VL Turbo?

    • +2

Ahh! But it does give you 100% protection against nasty fines.

    • What are you a lab technician?

    • While they may not give sufficient protection, the likelihood they give zero protection is ZERO.

Oh, and tangent, the point is not to protect you, it's to protect others from you.

  • This mask is only used for those that dont want to pay a fine for not wearing a mask. No other benefit.

This mask is good for keeping your virus to yourself. So wear it.

But don't expect this mask to protect you from other people who are not wearing masks. That's why the govt requires everyone to wear a mask, not just 99% of the people. It needs to be almost 100%.

    • The NSW Government says that as long as your work is essential you can still work.

Work places are covid safe such as the Metro Lightrail in Paramatta. Yep so good her metro lightrail!

    • 98% is almost 100%

    • Someone hasn't paid attention in biology class. Herd immunity, "only" 99% and "almost" 100% will net the same results.

      • Someone doesn't know the difference between herd immunity from vaccination and mask wearing.

You have 100 people. Let's say 1 person has Delta. 99% of people wear this face mask (or any surgical mask, not respirators), and just happens that the person with Delta is that 1% who does not wear a face mask. It does not mean that you are 99% protected or have immunity or any of that crap. If your Delta carrier is that 1% that does not wear a mask and is in close proximity of the remaining 99% who are wearing masks, then it is highly likely that Delta will spread to some of the 99 mask-wearing people.

        • Almost 100% (say 99.8%) vs 99%. This is a 0.8% difference.

Not everyone can wear a mask due to medical conditions or through events such as eating/drinking/blowing nose etc.

Even if you have 100% people wearing masks, that does not mean 100% protection. If your Delta carrier is wearing a mask and you are too airborne transmission likelihood decreases but never to zero. In addition, there are many other ways of contracting the virus. A piece of cloth isn't going to always save you.

Bough some last year. Be warned, the quality of these masks are very poor.

    • +1

To be fair, these masks are three layer and if indeed only used once for tasks such as shopping for an hour and worn properly would provide decent protection.

  • +1

Brought from them twice, couldn't tell the difference from the more expensive once. BTW, an empty coffee cup means mask on as I saw it today.

  • The counterfeit 3M masks into the thumbnail are not a good sign.

Don’t know what the neg is all about? These masks are fine to cover up your face from spreading any virus to others. If you expect them to protect yourself from picking up the virus from others you need to look elsewhere.

  • No, do not recycle these. They are to go in the waste and are meant to be single use. That means don't go wearing the same mask for the entire lockdown period just to negate a fine.

As for the actual masks, they're good enough quality for disposable masks - had them from previous deals but currently using a reusable one.

    • Out of interest how did you test the quality of these masks?

Plenty of cheap SINGLE USE (lol) disposable masks have 3 layers as advertised but the critical middle layer is not melt-blown. Those masks will stop you from getting a fine but will do sfa about preventing you from passing on covid or from others passing it on to you. Certainly better than no mask at all.

Did the normal candle test and others performed various tests previously. However, important to note there's many 'brands' of masks being sold. These are the ones I tested

  • I bought this from the last deal. They are very very thin, but they are three layers when I cut one open. Don't know if the thinness is due to it being vacuumed packed or just poor material tho.

  • I bought these a couple rounds back, they are decent enough to use for a trip to the shops ect. The 5x '3m' are better fitting and seem pretty decent. If you really want medical level protection these aren't what you want but they are good for purpose of you are still using other precautions.

The warning on the packaging is in Chinese and in english translated to 'these are not medical grade use'. Not much use when you're trying to dodge a virus like the Delta version - save your money and buy something better
