Awesome value for the features. I'm tempted………..

    • -3

Watches aren’t exactly sold on value or features.

      • +5

Why wouldn't they be? This is a tool watch and tool watches are sold on value and features, among other things.

        • -6

          Lol!
My phone is a ‘tool watch’ with just the same feature and even better value since I already own it.
You see the issue in prioritising value and features with a watch is because its feature is literally that it tells the time which is available for free nearly anywhere in the world.

          • +3

@JelIyfish: “Value and features” compared to other watches. Surely that’s not difficult to understand.

          • +2

@JelIyfish: Why would you even comment in a watch post, lmao.

My house is a 'tool watch' with just the same feature and even better value since I already own it.

      • Auto movement, exhibition case back, Type B style dial, day and date display. Only drawback is that Seiko 5s are Hardlex crystal, rather than a sapphire. But at that price point, you wouldn't expect Seikos with a sapphire crystal.

Now this means very little to people who don't care about watches. And that's totally fine.

But that's what I meant by value versus features.

    • Great features such as telling the time

  • +1

thanks WatchNerd! this was the colour i've been after

  • Movement Manufacturer: Japanese, but also says Country of Origin: China then reviews say movement is infact Malaysia. What's the deal here with the confusion/deceptiveness? I know that Japan made Seikos are supposed to have a higher qc than Malaysia so the ambiguity is a bit deceiving.

    • I believe the movement is made in Japan but they're pressed in China.

Source: Word of mouth from watch store employee in Japan last year.

    • There's a bit of a guide here (https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/where-seiko-watches-are-r…) from 7 years ago. I would guess this watch would be assembled in Malaysia from Chinese built parts.

    • I checked with Amazon AU online chat and they stated "see customer reviews and photos to check against what other customers received". What a complete cop out for an Amazon stocked product to direct us to check reviews rather than simply contact the seller for clarification and correction of the spec sheet. I'm betting it's then going to be a Malaysian movement not Japanese so Buyer Beware.

Sorry WatchNerd for neg, it's still a solid deal regardless of Malay stock, just want to highlight error in listing.

      • +1

You're wrong, this is definitely a very rare Swiss Movement Seiko

Just about every Amazon watch description has errors. For example this G-Shock has an auto movement. The Op even copied it into the deal post.

I've added the model of the movement & where it's assembled to the description.

        • I love how my post went to neg heaven when I negged the deal to highlight, definite unfair neg so I have removed, my poor response to ineptitude of Amazon support chat in doing anything beyond the minimum.

      • Ok deal for a Malay watch, but no chance in hell I'd buy one. QC is definitely an issue. Don't think it's worth a neg though.

  • Such a good price. Tempted to buy but still waiting on a deal for the snk803

I bought the green one last time for $105. This watch wears small so if you're used to wearing 40mm+ watches you may find it a tad too small.

    • I picked up the same one and really like it. Simple utility.

  • Good looking watch but for small wrist.

  • Is 13mm thick (for a small wrist which suits a 37mm diameter?)

    • +2

It's about the standard thickness for most automatic watches

  • Nice little watch. I'm keen on the Seiko King Turtle Manta Ray (SRPE039/SBDY063), hope there will be a deal soon.

  • this is a great watch, but very small. great for the ladies and guys that have very very very small wrist.

    • +5

Uh, 36mm was once upon a time 'large' for a mens watch. This is a perfectly normally sized watch.

Enormous watches are definitely a phase at the moment. Blows my mind when I see people saying that 42mm is 'just perfect for them'. It's a fashion statement.

  • I love the size and look of this but the lack of hand winding is a killer. Now if it did or was Eco drive / kinetic that would be another story.

    • Why would you need hand winding when it's an automatic? (charges by movement)

      • +2

So that you can wind it to its maximum power reserve, useful if you don't move around a lot and you want to be sure your watch has enough power when you take it off for the night to last through to the morning, for example.

Some people consider hand-winding and hacking seconds to be essential features and this watch has neither, but that's quite common at this price point.

        • +1

Exactly, especially if you have a couple other watches and would only wear it 1-2 a week. I imagine changing the time every time you wear it would get old pretty quickly

          • -2

@TurnipHead: For collectors, there's specific movement charging cases that maintains a charge in automatic watches. While this is a fine watch, it's still a cheap entry level watch, so it's kinda weird to have multiple watches, keep this in a low rotation and complain about it losing charge/time. The automatic movement is intrinsic to owning this watch, it needs a certain amount of movement to stay charged, so either look after it or choose a different watch (It'd be like owning a dog and complaining about feeding it).

Many serious watch owners recommend owning only a handful of great watches, than owning dozens of cheapies…

            • @Deadalready: Agreed, it's a nice watch at a great price. Just thought it's worth highlighting the lack of hand winding in case someone buys it without realising it.
For me, I've got a couple quartz watches so if I was to get an auto it would only be worn infrequently. Doubt I'd be unique.
As you imply, it probably makes sense for me to get another solar watch or cough up the extra $ for a better movement.

    • Ooof, good pick up. I didn't notice that.

Purchased this watch from Amazon about a month ago with black strap, it is small but I feel like it's fine for skinny wristed people like me (17cm diameter wrist).

Watch is pragmatic with a clean look and simple face, the dial has minutes (5, 10, 15, up to 60) and hours on the inside, something that threw me off but the more I use it, the more I like it. It is very comfortable due to simplicity, tells time, date and automatically charges while you go about your day to day with apparently a 40 hour power reserve. I bought it because I'm kinda tired of pulling out the phone to tell the time and there have been many occasions where I've needed to time things (heart beats especially), so a watch is useful, especially if your workplace has a "no phones" policy.

Downsides, the strap is terribly cheap feeling so immediately replace and you'll start getting addicted to learning about watches and horology. My watch also says it's been made/assembled in Malaysia.

    • 17 cm circumference, not diameter. I thought I could edit my comments on Ozb?

      • +3

You can in the 1st hour unless someone replies.

These look great on a leather strap It totally transforms the watch.
        Thanks for the review.

  • Great little watches. I have the green on a striped nato strap. (Although paid about $60 5 ish years ago)

Well known as gateway watches into the world of mechanical watches.

If you wear every day there's no issue with the lack of hand winding.

If you don't, be prepared to set the time and give it a gentle shake before you put it on. Yes, more effort than a quartz/solar watch, but less effort than putting your smart watch on a charger.
