Cooler Master V SFX 850W Gold Power Supply $153 + Delivery ($0 WA C&C) @ PLE

240

Amazing price for this SFX power supply. Only in stock at their WA warehouse. Cheapest shipping option for me is ~$21. Even with shipping cost it's still much cheaper than anywhere else.

Edit: 750W also available here for $139 (credit to abuseyourdna).

Don't forget cashback - 1.1% at ShopBack.

Apparently the 2021 model has a revised fan (see here). Might be best to give PLE a call if you're worried they're selling old stock.

The V SFX Gold delivers the high quality experience you’ve come to expect from the V series in SFX form factor. Enjoy the same great features with 80 Plus Gold efficiency, fullmodular cabling, an FDB fan, 16AWG PCIe high efficiency cables, and a 10 year warranty.

  • This is nuts for SFX, makes me wanna start fresh.

At the box I think it is still the 15% fan speed spike. At this youtube show it on package https://youtu.be/z1Fxz-ZWbtM?t=86 . :(

    • well what a shame, but still call them to double check

      • Yes please, by any chance when you got the result please let us know thank man.

        • It’s a newer version. Just picked up. Nice deal

Be quick the 750w $139 is also a great deal, I think it is more than enough for anyone.

Guessing no braided cables? The fact the Corsair plat comes with them makes them pretty good value!

    • +1

Can confirm no braided cables, I used to have one. Hoping the newly announced 1100w titanium SFX from CM has braided cables, they look so much better.

Not long ago, i bought a Cooler master V1200 Platinum PSU last year on August for $199 at Centrecom, used it for about 5 months, started to get no display during the initial fault, but then after restarting the computer, everything worked normal again, but then days past and it got progressively worst, took more restarts just to get it working and on the last attempt, it made a loud pop noise, scared the crap out of me but luckily it didn't result in frying my motherboard which i have heard in some reviews in amazon, about 40% consisted of 1 star review, i eventually just simply changed the PSU to fix my no display issue.
so in conclusion even if it's top of the range Cooler Master PSU, i would try to avoid this brand unless you're feeling adventurous,

and dealing with Cooler master warranty is kind of a pain, cause they told me to run all these test which requires me to obviously re-attach the faulty PSU which i refuse as there's a chance it my fry my motherboard…….i told them i just want a full refund, still waiting for them to respond, i'll update this post when i know the outcome

tell them if you attach the faulty psu to your hardware, any damage will be their cost. See what they say?

      • -1

alright i'll give it shot, thanks for the suggestion

    • That's a different model (and a much older one at that). Reviews seem good to me for the V850 SFX https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Efficiency-Included-War… (apart from the reviews regarding the fan curve which shouldn't have that issue now as long as PLE are selling the revised version).

    • @Fishrulz

I bought the same PSU start of last year and had the same issue with no display. In my case the computer turns on with all fans running etc, just don't see any display. Is it same in your case as well?

I thought it was my monitor or graphics card. Wouldn't have thought it to be the PSU. No loud pop or anything. I don't use my pc a lot anymore so didn't really think about it until I read your comment today.

If it happens again, I might start the warranty process as well.

      What's the advantage of SFX?

Edit: Just googled it, so the only difference is the size of the case? Only useful if you are building a PC in a micro PC case?

      • The advantage of SFX is really just the smaller dimensions meant for SFF builds (small form factor). It is a growing niche within the PC building hobby. Unlike the earlier days, today's SFF builds are super complicated and interesting (custom loops, top end CPU, GPU, etc).

You can use a SFX power supply in a normal ATX build. Some case brands supply an adapter for fitting a SFX into the PSU section meant for ATX PSU. It is useful if you are transitioning from SFX to ATX. Or vice versa, some SFF cases do accept an ATX PSU (but you lose cabling/space options. In either scenarios it is not ideal but using a SFX PSU in an ATX build would mean you're sacrificing thermals for the PSU. And using an ATX PSU in a SFF build meant you lose precious real estate within the case.

SFX power supplies are typically more expensive (maybe insignificant if you're spending a lot of high-end components) because they need to meet 80Plus standards and thermal requirements while still keeping its dimension small. Meaning they need some really high-end power components to reach those standards. Quality standards for the fan also increases because you're not working with a smaller fan diameter. A lot of the SFX PSU fans are noisy or has noisy fan curves which is why many chose Corsair SF600/750.

        • Thanks for the reply. Not for me as I am still interested in mid tower PC case so a cheaper ATX PSU will do the job. As much as I like smaller PC case, there are two components which have grown larger over the years - yep those overpriced graphics cards and CPU coolers (even those liquid coolers), so best for me to stick to mid tower PC case.

There's multiple versions of this PSU floating around still. I had to return mine as the fan curvature was based on system load, which means newer systems with beefier hardware (i.e. 3080) were kicking off the fans with doing very little. Simply opening the start menu or a folder would ramp the fans up and down constantly, not ideal.

CM acknowledged the problem, and there's still quite a few units out there with the 'older' packaging that have this problem. I had a hell of a time fighting it, and eventually got an exchange from CentreCom myself, but a friend had to threaten them with Consumer Affairs action (even after CM told him to return it to the retailer for remedy, at which they initially refused).

Would confirm with PLE before purchasing which version it is (information available in the YouTube video above)
