Roll Back Latest Windows 10 Updates

Hey all,

A family member called me stressed that the windows 10 automatic updates had caused some quite drastic changes to their laptops usability.

Is there a simple way to roll them back and disable future auto updates?

Cheers

What did Microsoft say when you called them?

Just kidding. Go to, Settings, Update & Security, Recovery - > Go Back to the previous version of Win10

What changed? How do they know it was Windows Update?

you can roll back windows versions via the Update option in Settings.. i've done this numerous times over the past few months because everytime i update to a specific win 10 version, it kills my network card and i have tried everything to get it working

Have you tried installing the manufacturers network driver instead of the default W10 driver?

If you bring logic to this place again I'll shake my fist at a cloud.

      • yep.. tried that. As soon as i roll back, its fine. It's a well known issue

          On board NIC - or?

    • omg I have the exact same issue with my network card. MS update keeps updating it to a faulty version and I have to keep rolling back to manufacturer version.

  • I believe MS keeps the rollback files for 2 weeks before deleting them, so yes you can as others have described.

  • Once you have removed the update, you can permanently hide it using wushowhide.diagcab from M$, that you have to download yourself since they don't include it as standard with W10.

Although rolling back an update is the easiest option to fixing the usability issues, I would not recommend it. Microsoft announced that the recent update was a critical one which is to patch up the "printnightmare" exploit.

I know it'll be more troublesome, but find out what the "usability" issues are and see if you can find ways around it. Usually rolling back is fine, but not recommended this time.

    • lol, 7 "news"

haha I know, it was the most mainstream website I could find. All the other sites which talks about this are too technical to share. You just need to google it to see that it is legit and announced by multiple sources.

Rolling back is pointless as its going to be temporary until it updates again anyway.

    • Not unless you disable auto-update, then you can practically stay on that build of W10 as long as you want.

      • Which is very bad for security and something you keep secret from anyone who doesn't know what they are doing.

  • See if there are any previous restore points if any of the above didn't work. You might be able to find and use one, because I think restore points are enabled and generated by default.

  • Thanks everyone. I managed to roll them back. Although it only appears you can turn them off for 35days at a time? So it might do it again eventually lol
