Help Needed - Selecting Floating Floorboards

G'day!

I am so confused with vast range of floating board products available in today's market. After looking at all the options, I have come down to laminate or hybrid flooring. Some say hybrid flooring (SPC & WPC) is a haux and stay away from it.

Could you please help selecting me the right one? Also, if suggesting hybrid flooring which brand should I go with?

Share your experience with laminate and hybrid flooring as well in terms of water resistant/ proof, insulation and scratch resistant properties.

Thanks!

Check whirlpool, heaps of floorboard threads

  • We seem to be getting a lot of new members posting forum topics these days, more than we ever had maybe? What's going on?

    • You don't want OzBargain to have new members?

      • Nah it's not that I don't want new members but it would be good to have new members that don't just post one forum topic then leave.

I think that the way some people here treat first time posters, it's no wonder that some of them leave and don't come back.

            @pjetson:

some of them leave and don't come back.

Or they come back with their regular user ID

          • @pjetson: I always thought we were a pleasant bunch of people around here.

            • @onetwothreefour: Yes, we all are and that's why your username is an good example. To get to four it was started with one.
You are very smart, I'm sure you know what I mean.

            • @onetwothreefour: what made you think that?

    • We only started showing L plates for forum posters 3 months ago, see here.

That has made it more obvious that a forum post is from a new member, not that there are necessarily more new members. Previously you would only know it was a new member posting a forum post, if you clicked on their profile and looked at their posting history or looked at when they joined OzBargain.

      • Ah Ok, that would be why then! Thanks for the explanation, I wasn't attacking the OP (or others) just curious as to why it seemed we were getting more new posters.

        • No problems at all, just saw your comment while dealing with a different report and thought I'd mention it.

I got Proline Rigid Plank hybrid flooring earlier this year. It's definitely waterproof, it quiet to walk on and it seems hardy. I guess time will tell if it scratches, but so far my dog or my furniture hasn't hurt it. I'm very happy with it.

  • Remember that there’s the right product for you, and who is going to lay it?
We have had expensive flooring laid by a sloppy team of layers and this has caused a couple of years of trouble for us and the supplier.
I would be seriously checking past jobs etc as this can really affect the finished job that you get, irrespective of the product.

    • so barnaby joyce then?

  • If I were to do my flooring again, I will go for Hybrid.

Some laminates are really good though - they look somehow more real than Hybrid. But Hybrid is easier to maintain so that is a plus.

Agree with Salty Pete. Product quality is important, but what more important is to get the right person to do it. Get your sub-floor preparation done correctly is one of the most important step that many fail to do
