  • What exactly makes it worth the regular $120/carton?
I must be out of touch but that seems crazy high for a box of beer.

    • +2

Its speciality craft beer and $120 is not an uncommon price.

      • -3

        Its speciality craft beer

        That doesn't mean it's any good…

Well Dad & Dave have come a long way since they started out but alas their journey still needs some travelling. Some weird flavour detracting from the hops in this one

        • +1

Big difference is that we used fresh green hops rather than dried pellets. If you like Hops, you'll like this one.

            @jamesdumay: Thanks, that might explain.

            Bit too grassy

            and

Couldn’t get more hops not it if they tried. Still has a nice flavour hiding behind the hops

@jamesdumay: Don't worry James, JV is always like this. It's a good deal, especially for a boozy lockdown.

            • @krunchymoses: Must have a miserable life.

@shbshb: Yeah, he is a unique character - poor bastard he is. The reviews on the beer are mixed, sure, but they are mixed. There's good ones and there's bad ones. Dad and Dave are a good independent brewery and I absolutely welcome them throwing deals onto ozbargain. Blueberry sour was great and their wildspirit stuff is good.

technically its 2x for $ 120 that makes it cheap for the craft beer

agree that craft doesnt mean good… there are some really average crafts around

      • I agree, $60/carton is cheap, was just more curious how they arrived at the regular price point. As I say, must be out of touch with craft beer prices

        • +1

They just don't have the economies of scale that a massive producer does. And they can tweak the batch to their specific requirements and not skimp on ingredients. Think of it like baking a homemade cheesecake vs something from the Cheesecake Shop. Control over what goes in and the outcome is what you are gaining at the expense of time and $$$ by not mass producing them in a factory.

$60/case isn't too bad if you're supporting a small aussie business (i haven't checked to see if they actually are)

        • Craft beer prices can be wildly high. Some imports end up at over $200/case. I'd rather drink local for a million reasons - support local, fresher beer and let's face it - American craft beers are good but not $200 good.

Some of the hops can be really expensive, and hoppy beers unsurprisingly require more hops.

The other factor is that these beers typically have a higher ABV, and beer is taxed on ABV. The excise is also higher for packaged beer than tap beer!

          • @eraser215: I had no idea that the excise is higher on packaged beer. That is completely ridiculous. Small indy brewers should get tax breaks to support the industry. It would cost almost nothing, wouldn't encourage binge drinking (cause it's still pricey as hell) and encourage a great budding sector of the economy.

This is why we need Albo for PM. He would probably actually do it ;-)

Well call it special, charge more… I would be interested in 1 carton to try but 2 are just too much. We only have a 7 day Lockdown in SA…

    • Yes, you are out of touch.

  • +6

60/carton is reasonable especially when you consider shipping costs. Happy to give it a go.

    • A slab of mountain goat Steam Ale is $60+, and they are owned by Asahi now. Same deal with Green Beacon and many non-independent craft brewers.

  • +2

Cheers OP, took the plunge on these, gotta love the hops!!

  • +2

Happy to give it a go at that price. Love some hops!

  • +2

I like craft beer and I like hops. I can hear the end of dry July calling so I'm giving these guys a go.

  • Sold out, was too late
Damn work getting in the way of my alcoholism

    • We do have a special on our Peaches and Creame IPA too!

      • +1

        OH REALLY?

      • +1

Peaches and Creame page states 8% while the can says 6.5%. Watch out, ozbargainers can be real petty about minor details(!)

        • +1

Ooh thanks for that. Bit of a copy error. Fixed!

Our new deal is up now.
