  • This or the SE?

      This one.

SE better internals (quicker), this will have better camera and longer battery life. Your call

      • Agree, I bought the XR last week and I did and extensive research on both SE and XR, I chose XR for the camera and battery life

      • Camera wise, the SE will perform better because of the newer chip (HDR), despite being identical camera modules.

        • Does the SE not have the camera module from the 8?

          • +1

@adamreid: You’re right and I phrased this poorly. I should have written ‘despite having similar camera modules with identical 12-megapixel wide sensors with an f/1.8 aperture’. Personally, I think the advanced portrait mode options are great and something you won’t get on the XR.

    • Depends on what's important to you.

SE, smaller, lighter, has fingerprint unlock
XR, longer lasting battery, larger screen

    • +2

I have both and personally prefer SE as lighter and found the fingerprint lock more useful during face mask wearing - even with Apple Watch unlock feature.

From memory back cameras identical but the XR has better front because of face unlock I believe.

Se will likely receive OS updates for longer and therefore potentially have longer life.

      • Others are saying XR has longer battery life. Who do I believe?

        • +1

Absolutely no doubt for mine, much better. That was main downside of se for me but still comfortably got a day out of se.

        • +3

It meant longer useful life due to longer OS update not battery life.

Lol seems I've pinched a nerve with the anti "get with the times" mob.
Don't be mad bro's, I guess your phone still makes calls.

        • +1

          Don't be mad bro's

Why did you decide to use an apostrophe there? Do you think an apostrophe means 'look out everybody, here comes an S'?

          • @1st-Amendment: Correct, it's the updated version of bro.
Now I regret not writing bro'SE.

        • You’re getting downvoted because you make assumptions that your opinion is the only right one. It isn’t.

I bought the 2020 SE for my son for his first phone. It’s great and he loves it. It’s a solid introduction into the Apple ecosystem.

Beware of delivery delays of these phones. August 20 is the earliest for me!

    • That's a loong wait for $100 buckeroos of savings!

      • +2

by that time I'd take my chances with Apple new lineup or discounted iPhone 11/se/12 /mini

    • Getting mine next week - got a tracking confirmation

  • +4

It’s a bloody good phone for this price. I am using it. I brought during last Boxing Day for $779 from jhfi. It was showing jan delivery but turned up by Dec 29.

  • I will wait as more discount may come out soon.
Like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 256GB (Gold and Red Hinge) $1049

  • +1

I reckon the new SE4 will be this phone with fresh internals. At least 3 years life left in this model.

  • -3

Seriously no fingerprints unlock? I thought it is basic

    • +4

I didn't think any of the newer iphones had it due to face ID.

    • Fingerprint has been replaced by face unlock

    • +1

It is basic. That’s why all the higher tier iPhones have Face ID instead of Touch ID. Face ID is more sophisticated technology, though less practical if you’re wearing a mask and not also wearing an Apple Watch.

    • With a facemask, fingerprint ID should be absolutely required since face ID wouldn't work.. not sure why you're getting negged.

      • You make a good point, but this phone released back in 2018, so they most definitely didn't have facemask usage in mind

Plus, the iPhone X (2017) was the first iPhone without a fingerprint sensor (When they made the switch to FaceID), and they didn't receive any major complaints about the lack of fingerprint sensor - Hence, they continued the new trend

Worth upgrading from 7 plus? I read xr resolution is less than 7 plus ? How about camera wise?

    • +1
    • In your case, if resolution and camera is important to you, I would upgrade to a 11 Pro or 12 (regular). If you tend to keep your phones for a while, your XR will feel dated real quick. If resolution isn’t a big deal, you can’t go wrong with the 11 (regular) either.

      • is the 11 pro camera superior to the regular 11? I thought it was just an extra lens on the back (ultrawode or something)?

    • +1

The XR is a 3 year old phone now, and keep in mind that when it came out, it was Apple's 'budget' phone.

      This means you'll be getting:

      • A single-camera experience (Compared to your current dual-cam on 7 Plus) no 2x zoom-lens anymore

      • Lower PPI screen (326 vs 401 on 7 Plus)

      On the plus side:
The performance of this phone will be significantly better than your 7 Plus since you'll have the same chipset as the iPhone XS and XS Max, except with 3GB of RAM instead of the 4GB RAM on the XS series

Due to the single camera on the XR, you'll also be getting a worse portrait mode since you can now only use this feature on people and not objects.

      Your call.

      • Thanks.
        Decided to pass.

        • Fair enough, I honestly don't like the XR but I see why people buy it tho

  • wait for 11 to come down in price, 13 will be announced soon
