Aftershokz Aeropex Deal July 2021 Deal

Hi Guys,

I’ve just found out about this technology and I’m keen to buy this. I can’t find anywhere less than $250 but browsing through OzB I found you can possibly get this much less. Is there a deal going on for this ?
I started cycling and would like to use this and hear YouTube videos at night. And MS Teams meeting.
I can’t stand anything for long inside my ears or over. My ears hurt or gets itchy.
Is this value for money or do I have other options ?
I already have Apple AirPods Pro and Plantronics over hear headset for meetings.

Comments

  • I saw someone wearing one of these, and talking on their phone whilst shopping at Woolworths.
It looked really comfortable. Obviously, I cannot comment on the sound quality as I have never personally tested one myself.

I am keen to hear feedback from other OzBargainers regarding audio quality of bone conduction earphones.

I have the same problem as you. After 2 - 3 hours of AirPods Pro, my ear canals begin to hurt and/or get itchy.

    • Same here. The feeling of emptiness like in the space that i hate the most….

    • Plus in addition to the itchy ears, the AirPods Pro will also have a flat battery after 3 hours. Can get a full day out of the Aeropex.

I’ve been using a pair for 12 months for mainly walking. They have been great. They are comfortable and very easy to wear for long periods. Using for phone calls works very well too. Because you hear all the sound around you it feels like you’re talking to someone across the room. One thing though, music is not the same as in-ear or headphones so don’t expect perfect sound - it’s not immersive sound. For me they work great for walking as I hear the traffic sounds and people and cyclists coming behind me. Hope this helps.

  • I love them .. use them for cycling, walking and just out and about. Sorry no idea on any deals at moment. Personally I prefer the Aftershokz OpenMove.

  • I have a set of the Aeropex. Specifically got them for cycling. They're brilliant. Audio quality is fine, doesn't hold a candle to my Bose wireless buds or my AT wired headphones, but not so bad that you'd notice when you're actually on the road. I can comfortably wear them with my riding glasses and a helmet without any issue. Call quality is good enough that I can take a call while riding at a steady pace. Haven't tried watching a video on them for ages, but I think there was a noticeable, although small, audio/visual delay. I don't think it would be an issue for a teams meeting, but just a thing to check on if you're thinking of using them to play games or watch a bunch of youtube.

Haven't tried the OpenMove ones. Sounds like they might have better audio quality. Maybe they have less delay? You should look into that.

I got mine from a cycling shop (99 bikes I think it was) when they were having a sale for I think about $185 not long after they came out.

  • But people said this leaks sound badly, right?
Weird because it is bone conducting, it touches my bone only so i should be the only one can hear.

    • From what I had read of the reviews so far, the Aeropex not so much. It is the flagship model after all.
The Trekz Air does leak sound slightly.

      • But what is the story behind bone conducting but leaking? Is this just a mini speaker headset basically? I'm not trolling but genuinely confused.
        Maybe air conducting then?

        • +2

If you put it right up near your ear, but not touching, you can hear it. It's just a speaker after all, just made of a different material to better vibrate your bone rather than air. But I wouldn't say it 'leaks'. You can't really hear it when its on someone.

          (referring to my Aeropex)

  • Ya I agree why would sound leak if it’s bone conducting technology?

Aeropex has very good reviews but OpenMove seems heavier and leaks sound. Is this true?

I also found anything over my ears hurts for example face mask elastic bands. Does this over head bands snug with pressure or very easy to wear ?

For music I’ll use other headset like AirPods Pro.
I am glad to hear I’m not the only one with ear problems like itchy ears etc.

$250 is very expensive if this isn’t a good product. As long as people around me cannot hear my phone conversation or calls I’m happy. The plus would have been taking this for swimming pairing with my Apple Watch.

    • Have you tried plantronic backbeat fit 2100 (or the tws style 3200).
I have 2100 and its good. Just sitting on my ear canal. But yes will leaks

      • I saw those Plantronics 3200. The issues are the thick rubber going over the ear which would start hurting after sometime. Also the ear buds goes inside the ear same itchy problem which I stated before.

  • +1

I've got a pair from this deal. Use them for Zoom/Teams meetings. They are great when I need to also monitor my environment (listen to deliveries, kids screaming in background, etc)

    • I checked Microsoft Unidays and their store it’s $250 now. I would buy it for $200 or a bit less.

I wish there was another deal going on now.

  • I purchased the Areoplex due to in ear ones making my ear itchy. I have spent a lot on the best wireless headphones. Possibly have 10 pairs over $200. And also spent a lot of money on different types of earbud tips trying to get an improvement.

These Aeroplex are awesome and a purchase I don’t regret. The music is not as good as high end headphones, but if you are cycling or walking the dog it is fine. And though I enjoy the ANC of iPod pros, sometimes it is good to hear your surroundings. The call quality is surprisingly good.

Plus a tip, if you do want better sound for the Aeroplex you can put soft foam earplugs in your ear and notice a huge improvement. Though I like to hear my surroundings so dont do this often, but it is an option and cheap to keep a couple in your bag.

I also use these headphones for doing work around the house.

After using these a lot, I would highly recommend, but it is still worth having another set of good ANC headphones when you want the best quality music.

    • Oh, a couple of negatives….

The do have a band around your neck which is usually not a problem, but not so good if have a pillow behind your head. (But using in bed is not really what these are for)

Other issue is they have a unique charging cable. This does improve there water tightness so probably a worthy trade off. The cable is solid, magnetic and works well. The set I purchased came with two cables which is a really nice idea.

    • Thanks a lot it seems you are very happy with the pair of Aeropex. Are you able to let me know your feedback on using this for MS Teams and phone conversations?
For music I will lower my expectations just want others not to hear my audio. Could you please provide your feedback?

      • I use the Aeropex for Teams and phone calls. I really like the fact that you still feel present in the office (or at home in lockdown). The clarity is really good. At the start I was worried and asked people if they could hear me ok, but people said I sounded very clear. Don’t ask anymore.

I thought my AirPod Pros with noise cancellation would be a lot better and thought I would not use the Aeropex, but the noise cancellation on the AirPods Pro makes things a bit surreal and disconnected, great for the hum on trains or planes.

If I were scoring the two for Teams use, I would actually give them the same score. Pluses and minuses in different areas, but both are great. I actually prefer the Aeropex for Teams, but the AirPods fit in my pocket better. I also don’t worry about the Aeropex falling out of my ears.

For music on Aeropex I find it is better to listen to music I already know.

    • if you do want better sound for the Aeroplex you can put soft foam earplugs in your ear

From what I have read, a pair of foam earplugs is included in the package contents.

      • +1

Yes they do provide some foam ear plugs. Pretty much the same you would get from Bunnings or a chemist.

        • Mate can you comment on call quality and microphones? I’ll use it for my meetings.

          • @justanick: Just provided a response above. I really like them for Teams. Possibly other headphones with ANC and multiple microphones would be better in noisy environments, but I have not had an issue. It is kind of strange that the voices on the other end are so clear and there is nothing in your ear. Though it is an impressive “strange” as apposed to a weird “strange” I find with the AirPod Pro ANC. I also like I don’t get the itchy ear I get with other in ear headphones.

            • @deal88: Maybe I am underestimating the Aeropex. I have just noticed they actually have a Dual Noise-Cancelling Microphone which may explain why the voice is clear. I guess that comes in handy with wind noise on a bike.

  • Anyone here knows how I can get this pair less than $250 ?

    • +1

I ended up getting the grey as the black was out of stock, but I really like the colour as it does not stand out as much.

I have noticed the Lunar Grey are currently $217, but are shipped by Amazon US.

      • If you want local, try Hardly Normal for $228 and they have the Cosmic Black.

Correct me if I am wrong, so far $187 was the lowest price (from Amazon AU).

          • +1

@DoctorCalculon: Yes, but that was for the Prime sale. Who knows when or if that price will be repeated.

(I am unfamiliar of the historic price swings of this product.)

            • +1

              @deal88: You are right.

We may not see a great deal until Black Friday / November.

HN price is the cheapest I can find so far.

              • +1

@DoctorCalculon: There was also this deal at Costco. Not in stock and unknown when/if they will be back.

                • @deal88: That’s a good find unfortunately I’m not a Cosco member :(
Now on that is there a way to avoid paying the full annual fees for Cosco? I only have very few reasons to go there ?

                  • @justanick:

Now on that is there a way to avoid paying the full annual fees for Cosco?

You have no choice but to cough up the $60 Gold annual membership fee upfront before they will let you purchase anything.

I only have very few reasons to go there

See if you can find a good mate who is already a member.

                    • @DoctorCalculon: Ya I’ll be hunting for a good mate let’s see. But too bad this item is out of stock in Cosco.

                  • @justanick: As mentioned above, the Costco deal is also not available. Really depends if you want a pair now or if you will wait or a future deal.

Also with Costco you can pay the membership and cancel anytime for a full refund of the membership fee. Or find a friend as others have mentioned.

                    • @deal88: oh I didn't know that you can cancel anytime and get a full refund. Does that mean if I want something I can just pay the $60 membership for few months and then get a full refund without any obligations ?

                      • @justanick: Yes, you can get a full refund on the Costco membership at anytime.

From their terms: “On membership: we will refund your membership fee in full at any time for any reason if you are dissatisfied.”

              • @DoctorCalculon: Thank you so much. At least it’s a discount. I just hope they ship fast like Amazon and I can track the order. I don’t think I can do click and collect and if I find myself in trouble with the cops.
With Suncorp I get 3% Amazon discounts.
I emailed 99 bikes if they have this is stock.

  • +1

Guys I’ve finally pulled the trigger through Amazon and arriving on Saturday. I went for Aeropex. I applied the Suncorp discount 3% on Amazon purchases.
Once this arrives I’ll let you know how it performs and if it meets my expectations.

    • +1

Good work. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

      • +1

Thank you everyone for all your support. I can’t wait to use this and hoping no more itchy ears and discomfort.
