  • I like the concept of this deal site - no up front payment that can be lost to bankruptcy of the supplier or expiry of the voucher. That will avoid the situation I am currently in with a Scoopon voucher: the restaurant claimed to have 'no availablity for customers with vouchers' for the next 2 weeks, after which the voucher will expire worthless. I noticed that on newer vouchers many deal sites have a 'you must book by xxx' - but this one does not have any such small print. Nevertheless Scoopon refuses a refund. Let's see what the ACCC has to say to this topic…

Back to your post: Your website states that the restaurant does not pay you a commission at all, so how do you make a living? Do they pay a fixed amount for advertising a deal?

I wish you luck for the future. This particular deal does not stack up too well with other things on offer at the usual deal sites - which is a bit of a shame, without paying a commission the restaurant should be able to match what the others do…

Is there fine print saying that the date of the dinner must be within those 2 weeks as well or is it just that you have to have made a booking by the expiry date? It sounds mighty dodgy if you are only able to use it to dine in the next 2 weeks but at the same time they won't let you.

      • I had a look online and lots of people report similar issues, see this thread for example: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/39214

In this case I guess I left it a bit long, trying to book in the last 2 weeks before voucher expiry. On the other hand it was clear that the restaurant actually had tables and just did not want any more voucher customers… Not nice!

And since my voucher did not specify a 'book by xxx' I am not happy about being fobbed off. I sent an email to my Consumer Protection agency, let's see what comes from that, other people had success and got refunds that way.

Something else is interesting: Scoopon deals that get advertised right now have a 'must book before xxx' date that is about 1 month before expiry. I guess they learned from their mistakes of the past - that is fine, I read small print and am willing to stick to it. But in my case there was no small print.

Dealfree would take away that kind of hassle, let's hope they take off!

There are that many fine print details, I doubt anyone could ever use one of these lol!

    • I've used well over a hundred. All it takes is being sensible.
