[eBay Plus] Lagavulin 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky $93.07 Delivered @ BoozeBud eBay

770
DRINKME

I want this one but have already spent too much on booze for this month. Resisting this but sharing with fellow ozbargainers in case anyone has budget to spend more this month.
Looking at past deals it is definitely not the cheapest ever - but it is the cheapest for more than a year.

Great whisky: this and the Oban 14

    • +3

Agree, the Lag 16 is a top drop.
But didnt find the Oban to be anywhere in the same category. I find it totally overrated or maybe just the bottle I got

      • +2

Really the Oban is non-chill filtered and natural colouring. There can always be differences between barrels, so perhaps you didn't get a great one. I have always found them to be fantastic. All depends on the person palate.
Lagavulin actually add coulouring and are chill filtered - probably a bigger market to sell to and for consistency.
Unfortunately Glendronach are going down the chill filtering route. I have been slowly buying bottles before it changes.

I've had the Lagavulin 16 for many years and recently I decided to try the Oban 14.
Although I prefer the Lagavulin more, the Oban does not disappoint. They're very different whiskies and actually complement each other: the Lagavulin is bold and smokey while the Oban is subtle and refined

      • +3

Agree with slickb. Bought Oban 14 not that long ago and Lagavulin 16 is muchhhhhh better

        • +1

Cheers, will give it a go then. I was disappointed with Oban 14 (I even preferred Glenlivet 12, which cost more than half as much with the Coles deal). Laphroaig 10 is probably my favourite recent purchase.

          • +2

@funeste: Big fan of Laphroaig as well. The 10 is fantastic, but I would also recommend the Quarter Cask if you get the opportunity. It's like the 10 Year turned up to 11.

      • +1

I agree. Oban 14 is a decent drop, but the Lagavulin 16 is a cut above.

        • oban 14 is highlands, so this is kind of a strange comparison

  • +12

Woolies have 2L coke 30% to make it a combo bargain

    • +2

Highly recommend this whisky with below

      Edit: Sarcasm

    • +2

This is such a great drop if you're in smokey, peaty whisky.

Mixing it with coke is a thing though. Smokey Cokey. Never tried it and couldn't bring myself to mix this

      • +1

wow not sure if you are joking or not lol!

Try it and let me know! I can't bear to mix mine …lol

          • @marantz: i'm too poor for fine whisky haha
            but interesting

          • +1

@marantz: Wow…. amazed by reading about it.

I will definitely mix Laphroaig with Coke and see how it goes.

          • +3

@marantz: thanks for sharing this article, all this time i was thinking you guys are just being sarcastic. For a longest time i can remember, i haven't had my whisky mixed with anything, as the article says at the bottom - i drink it neat or on the rocks. But I'm willing to give this a shot.

            • +2

@WhatsTheBigDeal: Haha yeah I cringe when ppl mix good whisky with coke but this is a thing.

Ginger ale is a common mixer as it isn't as overpowering to coke or a few drops of water to open up a high ABV drop.

              • +1

@marantz: Or if you can't bear to do it try it with a cheaper Smokey. I had some smokehead on my shelf .. found it a bit too much straight but tried it one night with pepsi max and the results were pretty good.

          • +1

@marantz: Oh wow, scotch drinker here: mind blown wide open!

        • Smokey Cokey is absolutely amazing…I've even tried pepsi which is pretty good too… It's an expensive mixer addiction…

    • +1

Apparently it's called a 'Smokey Cokey'.

Macallan 12 sherry is down to $95.62

  • +1

Glenmorangie Signet is at $194.39 - lovely drop

    • +2

I know it comes down to different palates, but i really found Genmorangie Signet overrated and expensive! $200 for that wasn't worth the money.

  • +1

    Drop

  • +1

Good price, lovely drop, couldn't resist and picked one up!

  • I am looking for the cheapest whiskey… Any suggestions

    • Captain Morgan was selling for $18 for ebay plus members on Tuesday. Keep an eye out next time

      • +3

Captain Morgan is a rum, but again going for the cheapest whiskey is a sure way to not enjoy whiskey.

    • Bells is actually very decent for a 35$ whiskey

      • +1

I like Grants Triple Wood at the same price. Love the Lagavulin, but man it's gone up a lot in recent years. Used to be available on special somewhere for <$85 pretty regularly.

Special unleaded 91 is $1.50 litre. It's a thing- flamey coke.

  • This stuff worth all the buzz around it, or are there better 'starter' whiskeys?
Looking to get this as a treat to ease myself into whiskey..

    • +4

I always say Glenmorangie is a great starter whisky. If you want something Smokey try it at a bar instead of committing for a full bottle

      • thanks mate

  • +3

makes me feel like Ron on Park and Rec

  • +2

Great whiskey. Bought this two weeks ago on Booze bud with “BESTBUD” promo code for 10% off plus free shipping for first order and an additional 30% cash back from ShopBack bringing it down to ~72 delivered.

  • +1

Thank you. One of my favourite whiskies. Took a few hoops to get the purchase processed though - kept saying 'the seller has modified the item' and required me to confirm and confirm and confirm. But looks like the order was processed correctly at $93.07 delivered. I hope I have only ordered 1, lol. Only showing 1 in purchase history.

Not sure I would try mixing this with Coke, seems a bit of sacrilege to even think of it. Always enjoyed neat in a Glen Cairn maybe with a teaspoon of water added.

Edit: I should add that this is a bargain. I normally buy at around $110 and think it is a good deal.

  • +1

    Good price.

  • Seems OOS for now, I'll update the post if i see it's back in stock - I'd assume close to 200 bottles got sold as per ebay since the post. Enjoy!

Nice, spending money to damage our livers as first-world citizens we are :)))
