iPad Pro 11" M1 Cellular $649 Upfront on Telstra $69/Month 5G Mobile Broadband Plan (300GB P/M for 12M) @ JB Hi-Fi (In-Store)

2010

Greetings everyone, spotted this deal on the JB Mobile page and seems to be a pretty great offer.

JB are offering the iPad Pro 11" M1 128GB Cellular + Wi-Fi for $649 Upfront on their $69 / 300GB Per Month Mobile Broadband Plan.

The net amount for the whole year is $1477, considering that the iPad alone has an RRP of $1449, this seems to be pretty ridiculous to get 300GB of 5G connection per month for effectively $28 (or a big discount on the iPad). Might be a good choice instead of NBN for lower use users and tether internet off the iPad to save some money.

The plan is 300GB per month at full speed and then drops to 1.5Mbps after that.

This is for "new" customers, which should essentially be taking out any new or additional Telstra plan, rather than be a new customer in total.

I'm not too sure, but it may also be possible to jump on Telstra Live Chat after purchasing and ask if they can apply a $10 monthly credit for being a new user. It has previously worked and might be worth it to save a further $120.

As the price of the iPad is upfront, you can pay that portion with gift cards too to save a bit more.

Considering the discounting, this is effectively an $828 gift card which is provided for the iPad. You may be able to negotiate to get a higher storage model for an extra price but that is dependent on the staff member.

Critical Information Summary

As always, enjoy :)

NOTE: In-Store only, may exclude most areas of Greater Sydney due to lockdowns imposed.

  • I was told this is esim card for this ipad.No option for normal sim card. Is that true ?

    • +1

no, i was provided a physical sim card which can insert into any router with sim slot.

      • Should I need activate SIM card before inserting into any router? How to activate it?

        • No need. I just bought a Telstra smart modem from Facebook market place around $10-20, then insert your sim to the sim slot, connect to WiFi and open your browser, type 192.168.0.1
          login, follow the process.
          ADVANCE——INTERNET——APN:telstra.internet——-select IPV4&IPV6———SAVE
          Then it should be connected

@larry0426: What's the speed like? and Ping?

Also according to Telstra you can only use the 4G "backup" if your NBN is down, how did you get it to work?

            • +1

              @TravelKon: 150Mbps
              Ping is 18ms
Just change the setting so it works

              • @larry0426: Will either of the Telstra smart modem gen 1 or 2 works?

                • +1

@TravelKon: I just bought the gen2 for $10 from facebook. It works

                  • @larry0426: Hi Larry i just tried it works great! Thanks for the info!

Also would you or anyone know if this telstra modem gen 2 can take other SIM from optus or Voda? If so how?

                    • @TravelKon: No worries bro. Enjoy it. How is your speed????
I am not sure if it is locked to Telstra only.

  • How would iMessage work on this?

Assuming it would have a different number to my mobile?

    • +1

Yes but just turn the iPad's phone number off in iMessage settings.

      • Cheers for the response

  • +1

    Thanks snowbeauty

Managed to get a $110 gift card. Had to prove via Amazon chat that their iPad was Aussie stock.

So may want to do that beforehand

    • Would you mind advising your store location?

      • Went to JB Maribrynong for the refund, but bought the iPad at another store (all in Victoria)

YMMV but I just got 50000 points added to my Telstra Plus account after signing up to this offer.

"Earn 50,000 bonus Telstra Plus points when you add an eligible service to your account before 31 August.

Eligibility criteria applies. If you haven't already, join Telstra Plus at the time of adding a new service. Only redeemable once every 30 days"

    https://plus.telstra.com.au/offers

    • How long did it take for you to receive the 50,000 points? Do you know what the eligible criterias are?

      • +1

I signed up 2 days ago then just received the 50000 points.

        • Great, no sign of the points for me yet, I hope it automatically gets applied. I did already have an MBB service with Telstra, and hope I'm eligible…

      • Signed up on the 31st, received the points on the 5th.

        • Awesome, thanks!

    • The conditions say for new customers - did you already have a Telstra service, or just the plus account?

I just moved over to Aldi in the last couple of weeks :|

      • +2

I am with Telstra home broadband for years then just signed up this plan 2 days ago, just received the bonus points. You can add any plan to your existing account.

      • +1

        New service not new customers.

I already had an existing plus account and JB Mobile Phone plan, Upfront Data service and prepaid with Telstra.

        • How long does the points get credited after you sign up? The telstra customer service chat says 2-3 billings cycle?

          • @TravelKon: I got them manually applied in the end, perhaps I got lucky?

    • Not sure how you got 50,000 points, when I enquire with telstra they shot me down and advise this is a JB plan and not eligible.

      • Try on live chat…

        • Thats where I tried and they said its not eligible. Will try again.

          • @ummmz: Think its a bit of a pot-luck and some reports above say that points were auto-applied a few days after sign up too, so one could also wait :-)

  • For those interested, might be worth hopping onto livechat to try and get $10 port in / loyalty credit. No guarantee, however I've heard some manage to get 6 months of $10 off.

Anybody had any luck getting it done over the phone or via the Click and Collect route. Now with Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in lockdown there needs to be a way out to do this.

Also anyone who got it price matched with Amazon $1339 and from Melbourne, can you please post your receipt here. TIA

    • I got in just before lockdown. Gonna be challenging doing during lockdown as they check ID etc…and whole process to go through. If you want to stack using gift cards it’s even more challenging. Price match entirely up to the store manager’s discretion, so I don’t think a receipt would be very helpful, just better to move onto the next store to get the price match.

      • Very unlikely to get the offer then as Amazon will probably put up price to RRP by then :(

  • For those who signed up, when you log into My Telstra, does it show 150GB or 300Gb on this service account?

    • Mine shows 300gb

    • shows 300GB

If it doesnt you will probably have to go back to JB to fix it, it was a checkbox the JB staffer needed to click during processing.

      • Thanks man, mine shows 150Gb unfortunately

  • Signed up today
No price match in both stores.
    No 12.9 in stock.
Thinking to return the ipad for credit..

    • Surprised price match wasn’t allowed but it is quite dependent on store manager. I doubt u can return iPad for credit though, but do let me know how u go!

      • Maybe wait until 12.9 back in stock.. ( the cloest store which has stock is 400km away :§

        • +1

From previous comments, getting a 12.9” is a more involved process, but definitely something you can try (get 11” and then return for 12.9” and pay difference in another store). Also don’t know how long Amazon special pricing will be there…

    • +1

      i paid extra 200 and get last one ipad 12.9 128g (๑•̀⌄•́๑)

  • Is this available as click and collect for melbourians

    • I believe if you had completed the sign up process already and just need to collect the iPad then they would do it. From scratch signing up, it is challenging as they need to have you beside a computer and process is often lengthy depending on how responsive the system is (and how good the guy/girl is at processing the application).

  • This is a dumb question but is there a better link than the first one? I am just getting kicked to the banner ad at JB which takes me nowhere.
I'm keen to get this purchased and out of the way.

    • Why do you need a link? Think JB knows pretty well by now the deal and all I did was walk in and mention the 300gb iPad Telstra deal.

      • I was trying to order online you see.
What I ended up having to do was ring around and find a store with stock, then I drove to them.

I got one, it's amazing how small it feels after 12.9" iPads.

        • I see! Yea, can't get online unfortunately, as they need to do all the contract stuff. Glad you got there in the end.

  • Experts please advise, 12.9 ipad pro or imac for the swap? Was kicked out of one store trying to swap it for the Imac. Will try again if lockdown ends. Trying to get an Imac as I already have an Ipad air.

  • +1

Anyone managed to get $10 credit from telstra? I am told since this is a JB plan I have to speak to JB direct…

Also still trying to get 50,000 points from telstra, apparently JB plans is not "eligible"

PS: managed to swap the iPad 11 with iPad Pro 12.9, the receipt doesn't say if you purchase it on a plan so I believe there is no way JB staff will know.

    • How much did you pay for the difference? Also yes have had confirmations of people getting $10 but not easy. Also the 50k points

      • The iPad Pro 12.9 128GB WiFi only was $1649 so paid $200 extra

  • I have a cellular iPad air, seldom put the sim card into it.
Wondering whether you guys would really use this Telstra plan on an iPad Pro?

And, wish I can buy 256GB 11", but there is no price match on Amazon to save $110. :<

    • +2

Amazon are actually price matching Umart for their iPad prices. If you want the 256GB version, you could ask JB to price match Umart to get the same $110 off.

      • Umart is 1489 tough.

      • Asked the local store they dont price match umart price.. Didnt ask if they price match amazon though

  • So how are people getting this deal in Melbourne?

    • Nobody is to my knowledge. Cannot be had over the phone. Happily be proven wrong though.

      • Yeah called up a few, no chance over the phone. Which is weird because I did the $69 a month, $500 gift card deal over the phone last year.

        • Quite surprised, i think you are lucky to get that over the phone as I don't believe they want to do any of these deals over the phone (maybe Telstra disallows them to?)

        • Which store was it ? In Melbourne ?
Anyone got successsfully over a phone in Melbourne, please post.

    • sold out most places in melbourne too i believe.

  • +1

Great deal OP… had to travel to Morayfield from Brisbane to find stock but the process was super easy, linked to existing Telstra accounts (hopefully 50,000 points arrives soon), switched it over at another JB Hifi for wifi-only model and got an Apple Pencil (gen 2) + case and worked out to the same price. Also put the sim in a spare telstra smart modem (gen 2) and working great, got on live-chat with Telstra and negotiated $10/m discount for 6mths on the mobile internet, and big thanks to all the advice from Ozbargain!

Only downside was the staff at JB Hifi are so keen for the on-sell that I had to reject the apple care, apple case, apple screen protector, norton anti-virus etc.

    • What did you say to get that $10 credit?

      • I just said that I have previously had iPhone plans with Telstra and do you offer a loyalty discount of $10.

    • Apple Pencil 2 cost closed to 200. did you pay extra to exchange to wifi only iPad, Apple Pencil 2 and case?

      • Oh sorry… should have said that I got a price match on the Wi-Fi only iPad with umart (saved another $70)

  • Went to the store and returned the iPad Pro today. Unopened. Got an $800 gift card and the balance back to my credit card. Told the store that I changed my mind.

    • +1

Went today and manager was saying that he will not pay 800 back 😊

      • +1

I went to a different store and told the manager there that I realized that I can't afford the iPad. He was very compassionate and agreed to refund.

        • That's great, happy for you mate.

  • +2

Just went to Jbhifi Kedron, the very kind girl made a stock transfer from another store, and signed me the contract without any problem, iPad will arrive next week.
Also got price matched from Amazon, on which the price is $1349 today, so $100 off.
Cannot be any happier, thanks to all you guys.

  • No Stock in WA as per rep

  • Signed up on last day (Sunday) in WA - no option to price match to Amazon, and had to get iPad ordered from East Coast.

No Telstra Plus points as yet, but not holding my breath.

  • I’m only getting $150gb data, then speed is limited to 1.5mb, somehow the bonus 150gb data wasn’t applied. Anyone else has this issue?

    • +1

Same as mine, they didn't tick bonus data when signing up, just simply call back to the store they will add it for you.

      • i called JB Victoria Gardens 3 time since Aug 5, and they haven't fix this issue. still showing 150GB on my account.
now that my Aug billing date has already passed, JB refused to compensate add credit to my account. Nor did they promise me when can they fix the issue.
        this is just absurd.

Planning to take this issue to ACCC if still not fix by wednesday.

        • TIO for sure
