iPad Pro 11" M1 Cellular $649 Upfront on Telstra $69/Month 5G Mobile Broadband Plan (300GB P/M for 12M) @ JB Hi-Fi (In-Store)

2010

Greetings everyone, spotted this deal on the JB Mobile page and seems to be a pretty great offer.

JB are offering the iPad Pro 11" M1 128GB Cellular + Wi-Fi for $649 Upfront on their $69 / 300GB Per Month Mobile Broadband Plan.

The net amount for the whole year is $1477, considering that the iPad alone has an RRP of $1449, this seems to be pretty ridiculous to get 300GB of 5G connection per month for effectively $28 (or a big discount on the iPad). Might be a good choice instead of NBN for lower use users and tether internet off the iPad to save some money.

The plan is 300GB per month at full speed and then drops to 1.5Mbps after that.

This is for "new" customers, which should essentially be taking out any new or additional Telstra plan, rather than be a new customer in total.

I'm not too sure, but it may also be possible to jump on Telstra Live Chat after purchasing and ask if they can apply a $10 monthly credit for being a new user. It has previously worked and might be worth it to save a further $120.

As the price of the iPad is upfront, you can pay that portion with gift cards too to save a bit more.

Considering the discounting, this is effectively an $828 gift card which is provided for the iPad. You may be able to negotiate to get a higher storage model for an extra price but that is dependent on the staff member.

Critical Information Summary

As always, enjoy :)

How does that work? Just buy a $2 Optus/Voda sim and use that to buy this plan, and then try to get $10/m discount for porting?

  • +1

Can you cancel the plan and keep the iPad like the optus deal on the iPad Air 3. The very one I am typing on now.

    • +2

You can, but it's cost prohibitive because of the ETC and voucher reimbursement so not really worth it.

  • +1

Have my phone with Telstra already. Dang!

    • +3

You should still be eligible, I believe they can just sign you up as an additional service and it'll work. It's a bit different than mobile plans where it's either port or new number, this one you should be able to just make a new service on your account and it'll work from what I understand.

      • +2

I ended up giving JB a call. They said I wouldn't be eligible unfortunately

        • +4

The person you spoke with at JB doesn’t know what they’re talking about!

I was able to get this deal and I have two mobile phones with Telstra. One now on an Upfront plan and the other still on an old JB (Siebel) plan.

This deal is for a new “mobile broadband” data only plan and shouldn’t have anything to do with your regular phone plan.

          • +2

@toasty: Thank you! Went in and picked one up today. No issues at all

  • -8

Every one put a complaint in. If jbhifi get enough they might listen about they p155 off people in the Sydney region…worth a try

  • Tempting as certainly worth dumping the iPad on eBay and most likely getting the plan for free for 12 months, though would love to know what the M1 is like 😁

Edit: now why would someone neg me lolz
    🤑🤣😜

    • +4

Alot of butt hurt people here. I got negged for writing what I was told by JB Hi-fi over the phone and then expressing genuine sadness….

      • Tempting to do as I've done it in the past with some Optus tablet deals, though depends what one gets on eBay so there is a risk loosing out, but yeah know what you mean

Edit: we're does one check there messages PMs,. on Ozbargain lolz I've looked everywhere in my account

    • +1

Most people don't notice any difference between the M1 and the previous model in real life use.

    • +1

Yes. Should be able to sell the ipad for $1250 at least, making the plan $200 for a year. Too bad I'm in Sydney

  • +1

How much do these postpaid services affect your credit scores? Can someone that signs up a bunch of postpaid services comment?

Would like to take up the offer but really hate the credit check enquiry.

    • Hi, I have done a few and yes they usually do credit checks

      • +2

Hey there, does that affect your score much?

        • I already had a bad credit score to start of with one/ unemployed cause of this covid situation and two/ negging on 5 different credit cards, before that I had an awesome credit score which was over 900ish,. then cause of the above situations it dropped down to around 250ish,.. but then in time I noticed my credit score slowly starting to rise just over too 300ish maybe cause I was a good boy maintaining my last 2x credit cards I had,.. but then with few applications with about 3x different telcos deals I came across here on Ozbargain I think it dropped again now below 250 (2 months back I think) but just checked its gone up slightly at 281, so yes it is going to effect ones credit score but also having an account/loan/credit of some sort and one maintain these accounts also your score will go up too cause of having them maintained

So best my opinion follow your score and see what effects like this deal effects on your score and might be slightly different effect between everyone, silly for example signing up for a mobile plan is going to stop someone from having the ability to getting a home loan, so I'm saying there's more to just a great credit score

Yes shows up on your Equifax report but not necessarily Experian

  • -1

I got the original iPad Pro 9.7” on very similar deal from optus years ago. No upfront but the RRP was the same price as a 24 month plan. Think was only 5gb though lol. And I still use it today.

    • +1

they used to have some good tablet plans 2+years ago. Now providers like optus and telstra offer nothing of value and even try to lock you for 3 years.

    • +1

Over 2 yrs ago I got the optus plan with 200gb a month and an ipad pro 11 for $75 a month.
Sold off the ipad, put the sim in a net gear nighthawk and had free 4g internet for 13 of the 24 months!

      Seriously considering the same again!

      • Wondering how much did you get for your Ipad Pro 11? And did you sell it on eBay?

I reckon go for it,.. 👍😁😜

As I did the same just under a year ago with the a Samsung 10 inch A7 tablet (a very similar deal is advertised I've noticed) though I added it to my first existing $15 data plan with 5GB data (so technically no extra cost, plan wise as I was keeping it anyway) and also I'll never get rid of my firsr data plan cause my second $50 plan since is a "mobile plan" with Optus gets 25% off which is $12.50 off which almost pays off my first 5GB data plan, so why again I won't get rid off

Yupz I've done previous better deals with either phones or tablets though this last the Samsung A7 deal didn't sell well as I expected on eBay but I was still ahead maybe paying off few months of my both Optus plans I've mentioned, the A7 tablet deal and monthly repayments will soon finnish on September and I'll be certainly be adding another Optus deal most likely for 24 months as best to keep the deal/contract as short as possible so can jump on the next deal quicker, actually my A7 tablet deal was only for a year at $9 a month

Edit: this Jbhifi Telstra deal is actually more tempting (well can do both), if lucky to sell the iPad Pro 11" M1 Cellular on eBay for $1300 so electively the cost of the Telstra 300GB data plan over 12 months will cost $16.67 per month over 12 months (the data is also unlimited)

But so tempting to keep the M1 Tablet as sounds like it's a beast of a tablet, mind you this coming from a Samsung/Android fan boy

  • +1

Hey folks, stuck here in Sydney and cannot access the deal because of the lockdown. My sister is in QLD and I was thinking I can get her to sign up for the deal for me. Is that possible? any recommendations how it would work? I can send her all my details…

    • +1

I think you have to be physically presence to sign up…

      • +1

understood, I guess wait until next deal (and no lockdown)…

    • +2

If you have an existing Telstra account you can request she be added as “Full Authority” this will allow her to sign up plans under your name

      • +1

Thanks for the reply, I added her as an authority but now Brisbane is in lockdown. I guess it wasn't meant to be…

    • Only way I can think of and If you don't care about the extra postage get her to buy it in store and also don't care we'll she'll have to sign up on her name.if she doesn't mind, then have it sent down to you, maybe later can transfer the plan to your name that you'd have to speak to Jbhifi or Telstra about

Edit: or the person above idea sounds easier 👍😁

  • +2

So has ANYBODY gotten the $10CR a month applied as a new or new/port in subscriber?

And if yes, any magic words to help me get it too??

    • +2

I tried they wouldn’t do it… I think since they have their dedicated jb call centre now as soon as you say jb they don’t want to touch it

  • -1

Any one know JB would allow upgrading to 12.9 model ? Paying the extra upfront

    • +2

No stock @jb, even the staff is willing to help.

  • +1

Not an Apple user but thinkng of getting this for my partner. Is this something you can attach a portable keyboard on (similar to the Surface Pro)? And if yes, how good is this as a lightweight laptop mainly for web browsing?

    • +2

I have the iPad Air and it works great, Logitech has some nice keyboards and the apple Smart Keyboard folio is very nice as a super lightweight option. Apple’s magic keyboard is also great but very expensive and heavy.

  • +1

Does anyone know if you can use the education discount to make this cheaper? JB normally matches apple education store price.

  • +1

does the plan come with a phone number?

    • +1

would you be able to put the 300gb sim plan into a phone?

      • +2

It may or may not work though depending on whether Telstra is familiar with the IMEI of the device.

I previously tried to use data sim inside an old iPhone to create an always-connected Apple Music Carplay phone for the car but within seconds of turning it on, got an SMS from Telstra saying that the data sim was not for use in a phone and would be disconnected.

      • +1

        From the T&C's

JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys Mobile Broadband Plans are for personal use only with compatible tablets or mobile broadband devices. Other devices including telemetry devices and mobile phones may be blocked

Tried it for a few hours today in an iPhone and wasnt blocked, would be interesting to see if it worked longer term.

  • +2

    Yes it has.
First 4 digits starts with 0460.
The sim does not come with audio but with data use only.

  • +1

Got grey one in the morning, great deal, thanks OP

  • +1

Thanks OP, I've been waiting for this kind of deal for years. Purchased it yesterday, and because I already had an account with Telstra, JB HiFi staff was able to bypass the credit check on the new mobile bradband plan.

Only thing is that only Sydney has the Silver version, so I had to compromise for the Space Grey.

My home internet is sorted for my two homes by using a portable wifi router. No need for two NBN accounts using this now. I am ok with the 1.5Mbps speed when the data limit is reached.

  • +20

Amazon currently has this model on sale for $1339, cheaper than Apple education store price.

JB HI-FI price matched this at the counter for me last night. So, I only paid $539 upfront.

For those who already made the purchase, I believe you can go back to the store and ask for a refund of the difference of $110.

    • +1

This is great! Hopefully its still on sale tomorrow and I'll try.

    • +1

Oh darn. I bought this yesterday. Has anyone successfully convinced them to refund $110?

      • +1

        I also purchased yesterday.

I went back to JBHIFI today. And they accepted the $110 credit return.

They normally don’t accepted it unless it is sold and shipped by AMAZON AU.

    • +1

FML. Should have checked before signing up. Will check the store tomorrow.

    • +5

I just got $110 refunded. Thanks mate for posting here!

Bought Logitech combo keyboard as well.

    • +3

      @snowbeauty
thanks for your post I also have a refund.

      Reminder to self:
      go to Amazon first

      • +1

Did you call before you went in or how easy was it to get the refund? Just had a bit of a non answer over the phone asking if I've opened it etc.

        • +1

Tell them you haven’t opened it yet, as JB policy is 100% refund on return of unopened products, which I’d imagine would make them more likely to price match.

        • +1

          @kirin175
I didnt call, just walked in with receipt as only 3 blocks from where I live.
Ask for the store manager as its in their discretion to refund or not. I just learnt refund is a store to store basis, check Amazon and always read Ozbargain.

    • +1

      Thanks mate.
      Got my fund as well

    • +2

Thanks, I went back to JBHIFI today and got the $110 store credit for yesterday purchase. I was lucky that there was no silver colour version in melbourne.

    • +1

      Thanks so much.
I just got $110 gift card received. They said that they would price match for amazon AU.
Now time for thinking whether buying apple pencil2 or applecare for ipad.

  • +2

So tempted but honestly can’t justify it given my 2018 iPad Pro 11 works perfectly fine, and there isn’t mini LED.

    • +1

Me too! In the exact same predicament as you.

    • +1

      Buy another one.

  • -1

If you have Telstra already can you data pool with a mobile pls.

  • +1

asked local jb hifi store and refused to reduce the upfront price….

    • +1

Try another store! Depends on the store manager if they believe the ipad is a separate sale or a combined phone plan deal.

    • +1

Worse case scenario, join the plan. Then come back the next day and request the price match $110 store credit

    • +1

I got price matched today at Joondalup shopping centre WA.
You just need to show them that the product is sold and shipped by amazon instead of a third party.
They will normally price match Amazon. just need the store manager to authorise.

    • +2

showed them amazon price and was told that store manager will only price match if buying the ipad outright, but not with the plan.
going to try another store….will let them know that Joondalup shopping centre WA store price matched
      thanks guys

    • +1

@hlg0606 got the upfront price matched in joondalup store WA. but jb mayree store in WA refused to reduce the upfront price. does anyone know any other stores in WA will reduce the upfront price?

  • +1

Perhaps a dumb question - can I still connect the ipad to WiFi? Haven't used to buying ipads on plans. If I can connect to WiFi then I wouldn't be too..worried about the 300gb data being too less for.my usage. I predominantly use ipad for streaming. Hence asking.

    • +1

All the ipads have WiFi. This one is WiFi+ cellular. You can always use wifi if you dont want to use sim data

    • All tablets, phones and wifi devices have wifi 👍😁😜🤑🤣

Edit: don't forget Bluetooth too 😁

  • +1

Thanks op got one. Couldn't get a price match with Amazon though

  • +2

All sold out in SA. Is it possible ask TGG to match this deal? any idea for that?

  • +1

@hlg0606 got the upfront price matched in joondalup store WA. but jb mayree store in WA refused to reduce the upfront price. does anyone know any other stores in WA will reduce the upfront price?

  • +1

noob question .can i use this sim in to my existing Telstra Gen modem 2 ?

  • +6

I know everyone wants the 12.9”.

    Here’s what I did:

Grabbed the 11” as per the advertised deal.
Went to a different JB and asked for an exchange as I “bought the wrong size iPad”.

The JB dude looked at my receipt and exchanged (+ top up) to get the 12.9” version. Ended up with a wifi only 256GB 12.9”.

    • +1

what does your receipt say? is it listed full price $1449, can I use it for tax return then? Thank you.

    • +1

Planning to do this when the cellular model is in stock. Hopefully within 30 days.

    • +1

Did exactly this, also price matched Amazon since it was $1579 which is cheaper than JB's $1649.

  • +1

Great deal, thanks op also stacked with 10% off/flybuys points at Coles TCN card offer.

  • +1

for those folks who have signed up this deal, is your receipt showing the full price $1449 paid?

    • +1

      Yes

  • +1

Can anyone recommend a cheaper version of Apple pencil for this iPad?

    • +2

IMO alternative pencils are not worth it. Just keep an eye out for a discount or buy second hand.

  • +3

Sent my cousin to JB Hifi and was lucky enough to find a good sales person. He managed to price match to Amazon ($110 off) + stack the remaining for a 5% discount gift card + add delivery to send it directly to me in Sydney. All in all, $527 upfront payment including delivery. The plan is in my cousin's name but will be looking to see if there is a way to transfer ownership.

Is there a way to get a credit or discount from Telstra. Any additional benefits available with Telstra plan.

    • -1

Hi is possible to send me the invoice so i can price match as I went jb today and no one allow price match.

    • Let us know how you go about transferring the plan, great deal too 👍😁

    • -1

yeah they are throwing in the kitchen sink too lol

      • What do you mean…? Irrelevant comment?

Even with all the discounts it isn't exactly a cheap product. Minimum spend after all discounts is $1,355. It would be good to get a kitchen sink with it… Hopefully with a good quality mixer attached.

  • +2

I got a refund in Joondalup, WA.
City, Malaga and Cannington wont refund from Amazon.

  • +1

Would there be any discount on the monthly plan for someone who will be a new Telstra member?

  • +2

Just got the Amazon price match deal as well at Fountain Gate gotta love this site.

  • +1

Just wondering if you could go to a different store and get the price difference refunded if the original store you purchased from wouldn't budge?

    • +2

      Yeah u can.

  • +1

Just wondering if local store does not have stocks if you can sign up instore now & wait for them to order in?

    • +1

I've been told that's not possible. They need stock in hand to sign up for a new plan. YMMV

      • +1

They booked one for me and sent an SMS after 2 days when they had stock.

  • +1

Can you just return the iPad and get store credit?

    • How much will one get back in store credit if it's returned, no way RRP of $1449?

      • Why not? Paid $1449
