LG SN5Y 2.1ch 400W Soundbar $335 (Was $479) + Delivery (Free with Some Stores) @ JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Harvey Norman, Amazon

180

Was looking for a decent mid level soundbar + sub under $500 for my dad yesterday and found this was $479 at JB and $355 at Betta, so was going to call today and ask to price match. When I checked today, most stores had already reduced it down to $335 + free delivery for me in NSW 2114.

Has very highly rated reviews. This model is almost a year old now compared with the Samsung HW-A550 which is 1 month old with similar specs and for around the same price. Was hard to choose but went with my gut. Lets hope my gut decides better than it digests!

  • FYI Same price on Amazon

Thanks, will add to post. Think they reduced it later as it wasn't that price when I checked this morning.

  • Sorry noob question, can I actually bluetooth connect to this soundbar so I can play songs directly from my mobile?
Or sound bars are designed for TVs only (via HDMI) in general?

    • +2

Yes, it absolutely can be connected to via Bluetooth from any smart device like your mobile to play music. You can switch modes from TV via HDMI/Optical to Bluetooth with the remote.

      • Thanks mate. In that case I see there is no need for buy any dedicated Bluetooth speakers anymore because this one can be used by the TV and mobile.

Wireless rear speaker kit also available on special from Amazon for $169 for those interested https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B086SSDK77

  • I think this entire line up is last years model, when i was looking a few weeks back i noticed prices quite cheap for the entire line up of LG soundbars from last year.
I managed to pick up a SN7Y factory second for $299 thing was literally brand new.

Same deal with my SN7Y, plus I got the wireless speakers as well for a total of $497 delivered. I ordered this model for a couple of reasons being the size, Dolby Atmos and HDMI 2.1 compatibility. Hooked up to my LG Nano 91, I've also managed to make both my Series X run pass through allowing Dolby Atmos in some games and 120hz plus also my Android TV box s905x3 run with Dolby Atmos. I read that only one is supposed to only work but I wired it in such a way that both work and I didn't have to give up a feature. Win/Win.

      • both my Series X

Wait you got two for a single TV? Why?

I got mine hooked up to my new Hisense 55" U8G in my bedroom, but it's just for TV/Movies from my plex server via Apple TV 4k 2021, No games i got my PC setup for that with PS5 for exclusives.

      • Does it pass through dolby vision?

        • Just the one Xbox, and because the tv only has two 2.1 ports as per the wiring instructions you normally need to choose do you want to play at 120hz and Dolby Vision + Atmos and give up having other devices like my Android box having Atmos access. The Tv also puts out Atmos when using Disney Plus so effectively I've got three devices accessing the soundbar for Atmos and not the marketed and reported by users two only devices.

    • Axelstrife, do you mind letting us know where's a good factory second site? I haven't seen too many thanks

  • Does anyone know how 400W is calculated? It seems crazy to have a speaker(s) that is 400W..

    • +2

It's 2x90w speakers on the bar and 220w subwoofer, if that's what you mean.

      • Thanks. I mean how to get to the figure of 90W or 200W? How are these figures calculated?

  • So is it any good?

  • If anyone is still thinking about getting this, you can get a further 15% off at Good Guys using the "AUG1015" promo code which ends Friday midnight. Brings it down $284.75.

    • Missed out on your code, but I got it from JB for $317 matching Amazon. Bloke said he probably shouldn't but did anyway.
