[SOLVED] Unknown transaction and my googlefu has failed me.

Sorry if this is not the right place to post this. I've found a charge on my debit master card that I can not identify. I've done half an hour of googleing and I have found nothing close to what I could have bought. Details below.

MEHDI ENTERPRISES PL FOREST LAKE QL AUS Card xxXXXX Value Date: 27/06/2021
-$6.48

Yes, I will be calling Commonwealth Bank on Monday. I'm sure they won't be able to help but I'll call anyway.

  • IGA?

  • Could be a small grocery shop. Did you pop into one in Forest Lake for a drink or snack?

  • IGA.. maybe.. No. That closed ages ago.
I was thinking the same thing too. I've checked my google maps history and I didn't go anywhere near there.

Sometimes card transactions take a day or two to clear. Check your google history 1 to 2 days prior too, to see if any other possibilities come up

Otherwise definitely raise it with bank

done half an hour of googleing

did you miss the 1st Google search result ?

    https://connectonline.asic.gov.au/RegistrySearch/faces/landi…

    • Nope, I saw both of those. Nothing useful in those links I can find. =/

  • I've gone through Ebay, Paypal, Amazon and Aliexpress accounts. Nothing lines up.

edit: nvm, went on the wrong trail. Had ended up with https://yourchoicerealty.com.au/contact/ but checking their WHOIS info shows a mismatch in ABN. However they are also based in Forest Lake Boulevard, Forest Lake Qld 4078

But at least I think it could be a store near, or in, this shopping center. https://forestlakeshoppingcentre.com.au/store-directory/
Have you ever visited this place before?

  • Best bet would be to ask your bank what the Merchant Category Code is. That will usually give you a pretty specific industry from when the terminal was opened :)

    • I reckon you're right. Weird thing is the category, Women's ready-to-wear. I can't think what I could have bought that a womon would wear.

      • Ah, looks like your bank may already provide the MCC to you. 5621 is Women's Ready-To-Wear Stores.

The merchant could have changed industry and haven't notified their bank.

You could also ask your bank if the transaction was card/pin present or not present. May help out if you need to dispute it.

Failing that, you may have to do a quick company search to find out their principal business address and google/visit it?

        • I'll ask next time I go back there (see comment below) or just buy something else with my card and check the business name. I think I've only ever used chash there before that day.

You got it! That must be it. There is a small veg shop I was near that day. I bet it was some tomatos.

Googled MEHDI ENTERPRISES, found the guys full name on linkedin from a search result. Googled his full name with qld included and that fruit shops facebook page came up in a couple results. Nothing concrete as he could have possibly just liked the page.

        • Ahh that's how. I don't have a LinkedIn account so I couldn't look into that link. Thanks for letting me know. :)

This is the first time I've ever seen the term googlefu. Luckily my googlefu skills paid off when I went to find what it meant

    • Wouldn’t it mean “google f**ked up”??

That’s why I like my Up Bank account, often weird names are converted into the trading name. And if it isn’t in the database, you can just submit the correct name and logo for them to upload.

  • This just happened to me this afternoon also. $5.98 was taken from my account. It happened between 1.30 and 3.30. My phone informs me when money has come out of my account. I was at work in Wacol not far from Forest Lake. I am very aware of my spending and I know all of my money is accounted for. This was scammed money. The only thing I can think of was an app I recently downloaded and subscribed to. Once I realised this app was an evident scam, I unsubscribed quickly and deleted the app in disgust. It was called uDate. That is the only recent app I put on my phone. I will be requesting a new card.
