Private Insurance Hopping 12 Month Exclusion

I used to change my private health insurance every 3-6 months to get the 6 weeks free or XXX amount of GC.
But has anyone else noticed that most of the health fund now has a 12 month exclusion period for the promotion to be given out again?
Left Bupa 6 months ago and was told not eligible to get the 6 weeks free because had a promotion in the past 12 months.
I guess the good old days are gone now :(

  • If you move every 6 months don’t you just need to move between three funds to ensure you haven’t been a customer in the last 12m?

Is that what the “exclusion period” means?

    • I think the OP may have meant 12m waiting period?

      • I believe only extras has waiting periods, to stop people signing up and using all the extra stuff all at once and cancel straight away. So it’s always 6 weeks, or else who wants wait 12m for a dental check up.

        • That is incorrect. Hospital also has waiting periods.

  • no thats only for stuff not included, say if you are covered for cancer and lung and chest on all plans, then that remains, eg I jusr went up a level, and a couple of new items are covered I have to wait for. Also its only preexisting conditions that have a 12 month wait.

Do you mean as a new customer or waiting period?

    • Sorry, I mean that I was excluded from the promotion……

  • I always thought that was the case that they had waiting periods

  • the waiting periods carry over if you are previously covered, shouldnt be putting misinformation out there
