shall we wait for the next 15% off at retailers?

    • +21

Given this allows hardware purchases (iPad, iPhones, Macbooks) I doubt we will see 15% off at retailers for the new cards

      • how about iTunes cards? getting these cards is only 4% discount, meanwhile you can easily get 5% discounted gift cards for JB, TGG, etc

        • It’s the same answer, iTunes cards now just pool into the same universal balance and can therefore now be used to buy hardware….

        • If you want to customize a Mac, 5% off at JB hifi vs almost 10% Apple education store + this 4%

          • @hello2090: Unfortunately not everyone can purchase via the education store.

            • @KangaDrew: The reality is, pretty much anyone can purchase from the education store. Apple doesn't do any checks.

              • @hello2090: You don't need a school, uni or TAFE email address?

                • +1
                • +1

                  @KangaDrew: No, go order directly.

                  • @hello2090: Cheers. Do you mean order with them directly over the phone? And just tell them you're a student? lol

                    • +2

@KangaDrew: No, google “apple education Australia”, login with your Apple ID, make an order, that’s it.

I usually choose delivery. Don’t know if they require proof of student when you choose pick up.

                      • +1

@hello2090: Ahhh nice one! Will keep that in mind for the next upgrade, thanks!

              • @hello2090: retailers got wind of this and are now super motivated!

      • Coles used to be have 20% off iTunes gift cards around this time every year.
I guess we won't be seeing them any more thanks to the unified Apple gift cards.

  • +1

Good to see at least some discount on these new ones.

  • So I can redeem these ones on Itunes like the previous iTunes gift cards, towards subscription like Netflix/Disney Plus?

    • Yes

      • are they killing off iTunes? so, no more 15% off iTunes?

        • That would be my guess, because:

          • According to section 2 of Apple's gift card T&Cs, you can now use App Store & iTunes gift cards to purchase items at the Apple Store. You may still see App Store & iTunes gift cards for sale at third-party retailers (e.g. Coles, Target, Big W) right now, but they are now essentially the same as Apple gift cards.

          • If you visit the gift card page on the Australian Apple website, it now only allows you to buy an Apple gift card. According to the Wayback Machine, the last time Apple sold App Store & iTunes gift cards on their Australian website was 07 July 2021 (which is two days before the Apple gift card terms and conditions were updated).

I don't think Apple would be crazy enough to discount their App Store & iTunes gift cards by 10%, 15% or 20% if it can now be used to purchase an iPad or MacBook. If you believe what some people on these forums are saying, when Apple unified their gift cards in the US a while ago, the 10%, 15% or 20% discounts on App Store & iTunes gift cards also disappeared.

  • Can I pay for AppleCare with this ?

    • You can pay for AppleCare+ with iTunes gift cards, so I don't see why you couldn't with these ones.

    • Monthly yes, upfront no. Thinking you may be able to do upfront in store though.

      • Correct, you can buy upfront with any payment method in store. Online or over the phone is credit card only. Or you can just pay monthly.

  • Addres IS ‘address invalid” when using safari but works on chrome when clicking on gif card.

  • +1

This gift card does it all. And then some.

Honestly what buffoon comes up with this marketing nonsense

    • +2

I know right! Just like new and improved, if its improved its not new. or Burger with the lot, do you want pineapple, well its not the lot then is it!

  • +3

Oh no, we now have the Apple store, and App/iTunes gift cards merged together.

    So long 15% off discounts.

I heard in the US, stores instead do "purchase $100 Apple gift card bonus $10 [store] gift card", But Coles and Woolies will probably just be bonus points.

  • +1

    Valid on education store?

    • Believe so

  • Can I use it in actual Apple Store in shopping centres?

    • +1

According to section 3 of the T&Cs, yes:

You can use all forms of Gift Cards on the Apple online store, the Apple Store app, or by calling 133-622, and to purchase Content. However, only physical and digital gift cards and codes can be used towards purchases in Apple Retail Stores.

However, if you add the gift cards to your Apple account balance, you cannot use the account balance for purchases in a physical Apple Store.

      • Cool, since I'd like to pricematch something and buy in Apple stores with these digital gift cards.

  • +1

can i use with employee discount and is there a limit?

    • Can confirm old Apple Store GCs can be used with Company (not Apple) portal. Not sure about the new cards or Apple employee discount.

    • can i use with employee discount

At least one other user says you can.

      is there a limit

Do you mean a limit to the amount you can purchase through ShopBack, or a limit to the amount you can redeem at Apple?

      • redeem at apple.

        • +2

From what I can tell, you can redeem a maximum of eight gift cards per transaction, but there's no mention of a dollar value limit per transaction.

  • +4

It's weird they combined these, clearly much higher profit margins on the app store (that developer 15-30% fee is almost pure profit) vs hardware distribution so makes sense to separate them out and and provide an incentive for more app store purchases

  • +4

FYI you may be able to get a bigger discount on these cards through other portals.

For people with access to Reward Gateway through their employer, Apple gift cards are 5% off (and you can specify a gift card amount between $5 and $500 inclusive). Reward Gateway charge card fees between 0% and 3% though, depending on the type of card used.

Alternatively, Redeem Your Gift Card lists Apple gift cards for 6% off (and you can specify a gift card amount between $20 and $500 inclusive). There is a $1 fee charged per gift card though. The listing is for an iTunes store card, but at least one user on this site has confirmed these cards can be used at the Apple Store.

    • It looks like iTunes and Apple store credit have been unified. I've had some iTunes credit on my account for a while and the Apple store's payment screen allowed me to use it towards a purchase.

      • +1

Yep, they sure have. Just did a dummy order and my App Store balance comes across. Wish I knew this ahead of time so I could’ve stacked up with 15% cards with an Officeworks price match! A 19.25% discount on a new MacBook would be a cracking deal!

        • +4

A couple of users actually made comments during the last couple of 15% off App Store & iTunes gift card deals that the unified Apple gift card would be introduced to Australia soon.

If only we headed their warnings!

    • +1

Hey mate - thanks for this. I managed to save an extra $55 (5% of $1100) grabbing discounted gift cards through my employer's reward gateway. Using the link provided by skido (https://www.apple.com/au_edu_5000447/shop) in another thread, that works out to be $1240 for a 13" Macbook Air M1. Very happy! :)

      • +1

Presumably you got jammed by the $500 max first card, then $300 max for 2nd and 3rd transaction?
Seems like you have to plan ahead to buy a laptop or anything else that might cost a few thousand…
I've found RewardGateway to be getting worse and worse (Coles 4% max of $400 once every 8 days) - If I can save the same money elsewhere, I would make an effort to do so.

  • +1

Nice, now I can pay off my tax bill with a 4% discount!

  • I heard that shop back is not likely to honor Apple cashback. Is this true?

    • +1

From what I can tell, it's instant cashback when you purchase (ie. automatic 4% discount) so no need to worry about that

    • Are you referring to cashback from purchasing items at the Apple Store, or cashback from purchasing this gift card?

      • Gift card

      • I was referring to the gift card, but do they honor cashback from the Apple Store? Since I intend on waiting for increased cashback before using these gift cards

  • Can I stack these gift cards with Cashrewards cashback (obviously waiting until the cashback amount increases?)

    • +1

My assumption is no, because Cashrewards’ special terms for the Apple Store (for Education) does not explicitly state that cashback is eligible for transactions where gift cards were redeemed.

Honestly, if I were you I would message one of the Cashrewards reps on this site though, as they may have more up-to-date information (especially since the unified Apple gift card in Australia is less than a month old).

I think this has expired, can't find it listed on Shopback app.

  • Same, cannot find it any more.
