    I wonder what the TGP is. Can't see it on the model page

    • +1

      Probably 80 watts

        I want to puke

        • +7

          It have a zen3 6c12t cpu, a 144hz 72%ntsc screen, 2 sticks of 8gb 3200mhz in dual channel, 500gb tlc nvme, webcam, wifi6 and a 3060 that even at low power can still beat many 20 series cards out there. For a grand total of 1.5k.

          You are welcomed to show us any laptops with better specs at or around this pricepoint.

        • +1

          why? what wrong with HP?

    • +7

      The Omen 15's 3060 is 80w with a 15w boost. I tested it to pull 92w on the GPU while running Timespy. In typical gaming I see it at more like 85w most of the time. In light games, like Genshin Impact, it seems to be able to go under 80w. There is a 30w mode that is used in battery power or when manual fan speed is set under about 3100rpm.

        thank you for detailed answer, much appreciated

        I am wondering if I should consider this as an upgrade from my current 1660Ti laptop - I am just in doubts that I will notice any improvements in 1080p gaming

        current machine is 1080p 17.3" 144hz, so this is also smaller

        on a second thought I will probably skip this as I don't want to sacrifice screen real estate even for some performance gains..

        thanks again!

        • i feel the same way once i switched to a 17.3" screen i could never go back to a smaller screen

  • this seems like a pretty good lappy for the price, im trying to find something for 3d rendering, creative cloud apps and image editing and im torn between a prebuilt desktop but they seem to be 1.5k more~ Obviously the desktops would be better performing, but would anyone recc this?

      For photo editing the M1 Macs are really good. I use a Macbook Pro and it runs lightroom much better than any other PC I had. Also has a very good and calibrated screen. Using Mac Os and windows together can be a pain though

      Otherwise this would be ok performance wise but the screen is not great. Maybe the Legion 16" QHD laptops would be a better choice due to superior screen

      • Or the 11th gen 15 inch XPS with a 400 nit OLED or a 500 nit UHD, they come with this GPU but $$$$.
        I wonder when the M series MBP will come out? I was kinda hoping this month.

      • Any feedback for M1 Mac Air for video editing on FCP?

        • +2

          I have the M1 MBA and while it doesn't have a fan, it performs extremely well! I can attest to pretty much everything in this video too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66uO_bPPiLs
          Honestly I think the best value is to get the base model MBA with 16GB ram as sometimes when your at full load the 8GB is not enough, and just get some external storage to make up for the 256GB on the base model. Hope this helps!

          • +1

            @daiwik: Thank you so much for your feedback. Do you have 8gb variant? I’d just be editing short (under 10 minutes) clip shot on my iPhone once a week or so. You still reckon I should opt for 16gb?

            • +1

              @ashftc: I have the 16gb so i'm not sure how often the 8gb is filled up but, in your case you should be able to get away with 8gb ram, especially if you don't have much running in the background.

            • +1

              @ashftc: The other good thing about apple is you can try it out for 14 days and return it if it does not suit your needs with no questions asked.

              For the cheapest purchase option wait for increased cashrewards cashback and get one from the refurb store. Same warranty and return policy applies but you can save about 20-25% over the RRP

                @qvinto: Thank you. This is informative😊

    I can't login as I'm not a student but doing research for a friend that is. Could someone tell me what's the best available for about $1000 on HP student portal?

    • +1

      HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eh0047AU

      $1,050

      AMD Ryzen 5 4500U
      2x4gb 3200 RAM
      256GB SSD
      1080p IPS 250 nits 45% NTSC
      Integrated graphics

      Not sure about best, I'm on mobile so it's hard hard look in too much detail, but that's the closest to 1000. Hope that helps.

      • Thanks mate, appreciated :) The integrated graphics is a no-go for that price but thanks for looking!

        • Agreed. Been awhile since I was in the market for laptops but I feel like something with at least a 1060 in it should be available for that price.

    • +1

      I'm not sure which is the best one but I can give a list of all the laptops around 1k on the education store (search model names on HP website for specs etc):
      * HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eh0047AU - $1050 (RRP $1119)
      * HP Pavilion Laptop 13-bb0030TU - $1125 (RRP $1499)
      * HP ENVY Laptop 13-ba1514TU - $1189 (RRP $1699)
      * HP ENVY Laptop 13-ba1025TU - $1189 (RRP $1699)
      * HP Laptop 15s-fq2586TU - $1199 (RRP $1279).

      Also it says you can take a further 5% off with code "EOFY5%"
      There were also a few other laptops listed but i'm pretty sure they are the same price as what is listed on the regular store.

        Thanks mate, appreciated :)

    • pretty sure you can find something with 1650 GTX around that price hang on

      yeah refurbished pavilion gaming, but it has a crappy panel

      me personally I would recommend this dell

      https://www.dell.com/en-au/outlet/refurbished-inspiron-15-75…

      why? 1650Ti, 100% sRGB bright panel, powerful CPU. good for anything you throw at it, sleek and well built

      can game on it too

    Anyone try one of these for mining, out of curiosity?

    • I have the nitro 5 posted last week ($1248) with the same GPU and I was getting a 41.79 hash rate which is pretty good. Temps in the low 60's

  • Good price for the specs - high powered processor, 16GB RAM (yes, 16GB) and 512GB ssd.

  • i tried to sign up with my chisolm student address and would let me wtf
