The Right 15" Laptop for The Job - Budget $1500

I'm trying to help a friend source the perfect laptop for his needs.

Must have:

  • 15" or 16" screen at FHD or higher, visible outdoors
  • Decent keyboard with number pad
  • Battery life >8 hours of light workload
  • 2kg or lighter

A brand with decent warranty service would be nice. Currently looking at Lenovo E15 or similar, but would prefer something a bit more modern and with a better screen.

Budget $1500 max.

Any advice?

You can greatly expand your options if you get an external number pad.

    • I am totally aware of that; however it's not negotiable.

There are quite a number of 15" machines that do have numpads still - I am looking for the best option among them.

      • Fair enough, it does come with the compromise of smaller buttons.

You may want to get an external number pad as the vast majority of laptops do not have a separate number pad.

    • In the 15" range? I think a fair amount still do

I don't see many 15.6" or higher laptops without numpads

  • Just bought from TTG $1098 on special HP full numeric keypad, Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10510U CPU @ 1.80GHz 2.30 GHz Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable) 512 SSD ,Product ID 00325-96686-86197-AAOEM System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor USB C, backlit keys, silver only. Great value for money, very fast.

    • HP Pavilion? No chance op will be using that outside.

      • At $1,500, not many options that will meet the OP's requirements. Some tradeoff will need to be made.

        • I agree, it's impossible to meet at $1500, though I assume if the working outside thing is listed, it's going to happen, so a decent screen will have to be a priority over everything else, otherwise the entire thing will be simply unusable.

Xps15 would probably be the go, would have to wait for some sort of sale to get it at the right price though.

I'll take reliable over "modern" any day of the week.
