[PC, Steam] It Takes Two $37.46 (Was $49.95) @ Steam

890

Previous bargains on console seemed popular.
Have purchased for my wife and I to play while in lockdown.

Seems to be equal to the lowest price in its short history.

This is an AMAZING game; I think it deserves game of the year in my opinion. If you have the money to buy it, especially during lockdown, do so. Need to be a little adept/intuitive at gaming. For example, my partner isn't great at games and so we struggled during much of the platforming phases, but respawns/checkpoints are forgiving and you can only get better with each try.

Game is medium length although my partner and I stretched it to over a week because of work in the daytime. Sound design and score is also amazing - underrated but gives so much depth to the game.

Best part is that even if your co-op buddy is somewhere else, they can download the friend's pass for FREE and play with you. Local co-op is best, though with this lockdown I'm sure everyone is finding that hard.

+1 I love the variety of each level and the different abilities you're granted.

Completely agree, the game introduces a new mechanic at every stage and it never feels stale or repetitive. The story also takes turns in ways you least expect but are so welcome and fresh - at least in my opinion.

This is random but another popular two-player co-op game, A Way Out, is also 70% off currently on Steam. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1222700/A_Way_Out/

So if one person purchases the game, they can play online with someone who doesn't have the game?

      • +5

That's 100% correct, there's an option on Steam to download the Friend's Pass and that's what they download - free of charge.

Great game to play with young kids. Difficulty isn't very high.

Man my gf having a tough time aiming on PS

      • +2

Mine was having a tough time with the grappling hook jumps.

        • +2

Man tell me about it lol.

So what I did with aiming is each time she has to aim I take over and she plays my character.

          It’s really stressful hahahaha

        haha

You are not alone, the missus was having a meltdown on one of the bosses when she had to aim to shoot it. Got it in the end, but a lot more involved than Sims that's for sure haha

        • +1

Oh gosh is this the Bee one? We yet to hit the boss but almost there.

Misus had a meltdown (she was about to cry) because she couldn’t jump over this ladder and all she needed to do is double jump and dash. I said she needs to learn And I’m not gonna help.

          • @sauce2k: I think we have the same missus hahahahaah, yeah the end of the bee one. Platforming and aiming are not their strong points. Still fun though we are just up to after the bee level as it was too much, will revisit it later. Great game though, and not helping her either but she is getting better so that is good.

One of the game reviewers i trust the most was saying that this is one of the best coop experiences they have ever had. Seriously high praise, i just hope everyone can find the right person to play it with.

Thanks for the post, got a copy and hopefully will play tonight.
I missed a step. Instructions for free friend copy: "Just add this game to your cart. Then during checkout, choose a friend to receive your gift."

    • That's not an issue. There's an option, regardless of whether you missed that step during purchase, where your friend can download the friend's pass version of the game on steam for free.

  • +1

Says "Download It Takes Two Friend's Pass". Does that mean I can buy one copy and play with a friend who is on another PC?

    • +1

That's correct mate - there's an option to download the Friend's pass on Steam - whoever doesn't have the paid copy needs to download that and they can play with you online through another PC.

      • +1

Oh fantastic, thanks mate! I was gonna buy it for PS5 to play with my partner but only got one controller. Will buy it on PC instead!

I usually wait for games to drop drastically in price as I've got a big backlog. But I made an exception for this one, and it was worth every dollar.

Huge variety in levels and gameplay. Partner and I played every night. She was excited to play and would ask me to put it on - and I'm usually the gamer! Not too difficult but great for non-gamers, and I imagine kids too.

If you want a game to play with your other half, whether or not they're much of a gamer, this is the one!

Hmmm I want this, but I'm also cognisant that it will make its way to EA Play at some stage (and Game Pass by extension).

Very tempting at this price, but might as well wait it out.

  • Loved playing this game with my partner.

Josef Fares (the game's director) said in the gameplay trailer that "the amount of variation is insane, there are no similar scenarios, every scene is unique".
I usually write this kind of statement off as hyperbole… Well, it wasn't hyperbole.

I was blown away by this game's variety of gameplay and environment design. The game wowed me pretty much all the way through.

Any deal on this game is a steal… The game is amazing, and you only need the 1 copy of the game to play co-op with a friend. (because they only need to download the friend-pass version of the game to play with you)

    Highly recommend.

  • I've only watched a playthrough but from what I can gather:
Great gameplay. Think it requires some good gamer instincts (and by that I mean being adaptive and problem solving) but the checkpoints are very frequent so no worries there. Really cool level design as well. The time stop mechanics in addition with the art direction was so cool.
Levels are extremely long and theres 9 of them iirc. A pretty damn long game. Everything is individually great but it feels like the game almost loses its sense of identity in gameplay by having so many genres and ideas (bullet hell, fighters, side-scroll platformer, etc. its got literally everything). Maybe no one cares about that because it feels like everything is constantly new but I think that means you're never given time to solidify what you've learnt in previous stages. Honestly I think they could've and should've saved so many of their gameplay ideas for other games, because there's just so many good ideas and they could've only used a few and solidified them further instead of using up all of their genius at once.

Incredible production and game design, but it feels a bit over the top at times (feels like a rollercoaster that just keeps going down forever). Doesn't have a clear sense of identity because every level introduces new mechanics and doesn't seem to touch much on previous ones. Story is pretty bad in comparison to the stellar gameplay, and I'd skip the cutscenes to be honest. It's got a LOT of content and its beautiful so it's worth the buy imo
