Hmm…I spend now and get to use money from the discount after I am 60 years of age + YOU get my 100% accurate private info (first name, last name, date of birth, super number) for free?

    • -1

      Hi dan0909,

Yes you spend money now and some goes into your super account where it can compound and grow until you retire. As far as collecting details we do not collect your date of birth or your super number. We ask for your bpay payment details to your super account which can only be used to put your earnings in.

      Hope this helps.

      • some goes into your super account where it can compound and grow until you retire

in can also compound outside your super account…

  • You can get all of this information from the ATO and your Superannuation provider.
If you want more information on what you can do with your money, see a registered financial advisor, not some janky app.

      Pud3000,
      ouch!
May I ask why you call the app janky?

  • "The TaxFox App helps get a bigger tax refund" Bigger than what? Sounds misleading.

I can't comment on the app.
I can comment on how they responded to some of our ahole comments last time, with poise and patience.
They even responded to me privately in a question I had for them and their response was a 10/10.
Just saying. Made it WAY more likely I'd look more closely at their product.
Not associated, don't know anyone involved in their business.
Check out their answers last post. Got to give it to them for service and that's half the battle.

So they know how to pass ozbargainers' "sh**" test.

      • Yeah. But that would be no small feat. I'm an ahole. Probably some more aholes here, though I'm yet to meet one. :)

TaxFox App is built to help you get more tax refund
    * Auto-calculates your tax refund estimate
    * Shows what you can claim as a tax deduction based on occupation.
    * Shows average deductions claimed based on job.

The myGov site does the tax refund estimate ….

Your deduction claims seem to be inviting and advising people to claim expenses based off an "industry allowed " or "industry average" . That's not how deductions work.
    That's fraud

Is taxfox liable for any audits or reviews ? Do you provide audit insurance ?

    • Hi @astarman,

This is the TaxFox Team - full disclosure that we are affiliated with Boost Your Super.

Thanks for your question and we’d be happy to clarify your understanding of how the app works and provide some education on how audit insurance actually works.

The MyGov website along with many other websites provide refund estimates when you access that website. The TaxFox app calculates the estimate on the spot after you input each deduction.

The app shows industry averages to help users to identify where they stand and if there are any other deductions they might have not considered.
The app clearly states that receipts must be kept in accordance with laws and ATO guidelines. The app also provides a variety of information to help educate the average taxpayer on what they can and can’t claim.

It's important for us to clarify that the following comment you made is completely false.
"Your deduction claims seem to be inviting and advising people to claim expenses based off an "industry allowed " or "industry average" ."

We never suggest anywhere in the app for people to make false claims. In fact the app is designed to help you record receipts so that in case of an ATO audit you are able to easily substantiate your claims.

By no means is the app ‘inviting’ people to claim more than the allowable expenses and the app certainly does not provide any form of advice - all the information within the app is factual information. TaxFox follows strict compliance rules within financial services and tax laws.

There is also no mention anywhere of the words “industry allowed”.

Claiming what is not allowed is fraud, the same as if you are lodging your own tax returns and input a figure in the deductions field that is higher than your legally claimable deduction amount.

There are rules around what you can and can't claim, so not all expenses incurred may be claimable.

Please also note that the ATO publishes averages which is publicly available.

Regarding Audit insurance, it seems you may not be aware of how it actually works. Tax audit insurance generally covers the professional fees that your accountant charges to respond to an audit, inquiry, investigation, review or examination of returns lodged with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) or other government revenue authorities.

Audit insurance doesn’t mean the insurer will pay your liability to the government nor does it protect you from penalties for breaking the law.
TaxFox does not provide Audit insurance as it is not a tax return lodgement system.

Please feel free to ask any more clarifying questions and we will respond as quickly as we can. We are happy to help educate anyone that is wanting to be more engaged with their taxes so they can claim what they are legally entitled.

      Cheers =)

In the last post that was removed for sockpuppetting, the comments were filled with pointing out most of the 'features' are either available for free from the ATO (such as industry specific common deductions and a tax estimate), or not features at all.

    This isn't a deal

    • Hey @frowny,

      Thanks for your notes!

Your suggestions are great for people who are happy to spend the time and effort using various methods. Spreadsheets and shoe boxes still work fine too.

We offer discounts at tax time to help more Aussies better manage their taxes. Interestingly, there are many Aussies who also take on premium subscriptions throughout the year.

So it seems like this is a deal. One where customers are also able to receive contributions to their super.

But of course it may not be something you're into. And that's cool.

      Turn that frown upside down!

      Cheers =)
