ALEX Drawer Unit, White $80 (Normally $120) @ IKEA

250

Stumbled across this while looking for some drawers. Seems to be low stock at the time of posting and apparently "This product will be leaving our range soon".

I wonder why they’re leaving their range?

      • Seems identical, probably just a new SKU or box

Old has metal drawer bracket, no rubber feet and weighs 27.50 kg

New has white brackets, rubber feet and weighs 27.38 kg

The new one has pre drilled holes for castors and mounting onto the tabletops/trestles.

Yeah as others have said, it looks like they're just replacing it with a near identical product. Dimensions, looks, and the white colour option are the same. There are some new colours, and from what I could see, there are now pre-drilled holes on the bottom to attach optional castors, and on the top to attach to some of their new tabletops. A welcome addition in my opinion. The rubber bumpers that came with the older Alex drawers never seems to keep my tabletop in place.

Buy two of these and a table top to make a desk like this.

    • Looks good in theory, but it's a bit low for a desk. At least for a full size adult. I've got one of these drawers and I couldn't imagine such a low desk. Especially if you're using a proper office chair with castors.

Is commonly used as a ‘hack’ to raise the ikea desk combo. I’ve done it and it’s now a good height.

      • +3

I built my office desk on these and I like the height. I’m 6ft and sit at the desk 8-10 hrs a day no issue. My prior desk was higher and I much prefer this height

I believe this is one of the most popular hack online, most people build these as their work station or computer desks. If it's low I've seen people add little legs on top of the drawers to raise the desk up a bit but most people don't, from what I've seen.

This is so easy to fix in so many ways though.

  • Looks OOS everywhere near me.

  • Yeah they’ve been slowly discontinuing the Alex drawer line

    • Nah just bringing in new colors.

  • 700x360x580 (HxWxD)

  • Seems to be getting updated with a newer version that looks identical: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/alex-drawer-unit-white-40473549…

Two of these and a benchtop from bunnings make a great cheap and large desk.

  • These are the older Alex drawer units before they updated them around April/May 2021 with 'newer' model. Very minor changes but pretty much the same in a way with the exact same dimensions.

    • do the draws still not fully come out? or has that been fixed/updated?

They still haven't brought back the black ones :(

      • +1

Wish they’d bring back the blue ones :( I got one drawer with the intention of buying a second when I set up my desk but now I can’t get a matching second one :(

  • I got one of these last year for my home office it's super heavy…I think 60kgs+ the glue or whatever used in the MDF smells really bad… more so then other Ikea stuff that fades after a few months this never didn so I ended up selling it on gumtree for $80 lol. I do not recommend this draw but hey I may have just been unlucky and my office is small at 3m x 3.2m so that may have made the smell more noticeable

      It's 27kg.

        Bro doesn't even lift

Might have just been yours and possibly fresh stock? I bought mine last year and love it. No glue smell at all.

And compared to other filing cabinets around the same size, it's about average weight.

  • Bugger! I bought two last week for $120 each.

Anyone know what Ikea are like with price matching themselves?

  • Any chance they'll bring back the Alex add-on? :/
