Projector Screens for an Ultra Short Throw - Any Recommendations?

So I picked up a Samsung Premier projector recently (SP-LSP7TFAXXY) with all the great deals JB were running.

I haven't opened/set it up yet as I'm moving soon and its more so for the bigger house as a main TV in the living room - its a townhouse and the living room has no windows on the sides (of where I plan on projecting to), so its a darker area with no light interference.

I'd prefer to get a proper ALR UST screen rather than projecting to an off white wall or a generic projector sheet, as I can see images look much better from what saw on Youtube reviews.

Does anyone have a UST projector who can recommend a good screen?

I've seen for example this one - which was posted as a deal but its only 100' (I'd prefer 120 to maximise what the project can do):

Obviously Elite Screens sells good quality screens, although I've noticed some are even pricier of the projector itself!

Done a few google searches which came up with a few Aliexpress listings and other local websites.

In terms of budget I'm happy to spend about $1k for something that is good.

Would like recommendations - maybe you have a similar projector or know what is suitable.

Might be better posting this question in /r/hometheater

Lots of knowledgeable people in there, and while the advice tends to be more US-centric, you will definitely get all the right facts you need to make the right decision.

As I understand it, UST requires a specifically made screen which has fibers aligned in the correct way to bounce the upwardly projected light at the seating position for the best enjoyment. Good luck on your search!

I was on the same boat as you.. After a lot of research, I ended up buying XY screens PET crystal (best for UST) 120 inch ALR screen as this is the best value for money ( paid around $1350 AUD including shipping) that I could find. Bought off Ali express as better return policy etc.. Try reaching them directly if you're keen. Make sure you choose PET crystal material as that suits better for UST. It's shipped directly from china and reached me to Sydney in 4 days.. I bought lsp9t version (triple laser model), and moving to new home in 2 weeks, so haven't opened it yet..

Other options that I considered are
    1) Akia screen clr4 (shipped from usa)
    2) Screen innovations ALR screen (from USA)
    3) Elite ALR screens (expensive but same quality as XY screens).. If you go to Samsung Australia official website and check LSP9T or LSP7T model and scroll below, you can find 15% discount coupon code for a local sourced product.. It's still costs around $2600 or so. But you get local warranty.
    4) vividstorm floor rising screen. Also expensive and I found out somewhere l that the fabric gets damaged if it's opened and closed often so didn't opt for this.

    Hope this helps!

    • Notice any rainbow effect on the LSP9T?

    • hey mate recently came across this thread. Would you be able to share the Aliexpress link for XY screen? I've seen few for sale but not many with reviews for me to rely on. much appreciated if you could!

    • Hey Krish
I'm so grateful I came across your your comments on this thread.
I too have bought a Samsung Premiere LSP9T Triple laser UST and am looking for a CLR projector screen.

Since you were about to shift into your new home and were yet to try it out, I'm keen to know if the 4K results were satisfactory. Rainbow effects etc.

Is this the screen you are recommending? Link Below.

Also Samsung recommends CLR the link below is for ALR, do you think it makes a difference?

I'll be grateful to hear from you I am in Canberra and am considering ordering from XY screens

      • Came across this thread while googling haha. If you're still on the hunt for a UST screen there are some decent quality ALR screens at competitive prices here.

After doing a bit of research placed an order for the 120" XY Screen PET Crystal myself a couple of days ago for $1549 delivered. Not exactly sure about the $1350 the poster above was quoting (maybe it was back when the Aussie dollar was rocketing along) but I couldn't find it any cheaper elsewhere. Still apparently one of the best bang for buck ALR screens out there for USTs. Hope that helps.

  • Great help so far.. thanks folks.
I'm gonna go so some more research based on your advice! :)

Also check out this guy been around for yonks knows his stuff, I got my non short throw screen from him few years back.

  • I've just spotted this item has dropped in price on banggood to $683.45 + $65 shipping and is from their AU warehouse
Although its 100' not 120' I'm thinking it may be a good buy.
Not even sure if anyone can answer this, if later down the path I purchase a regular projector, is an ALR short throw screen suitable for it, or its only suitable for UST throw projectors? Ie I may move this screen upstairs to go with a traditional projector and buy another 120' for the UST projector.

  • Leaving here to sus out later. I figured others might find useful 🤓
I'm on the hunt atm, but having trouble trying to find bigger than 120". XY screens seems to be the most affordable, and they go bigger, but that's because they join two pieces together (which is only apparently only visible up close when the projector is off). Yes, the reviewer isn't local, but some good info i rekon.
