Need a Colour Printer (MFP) for Home with Cheap Ink Options - Budget $200

Hello.

I am looking to buy a printer for home which has cheap ink replacement options. I will probably just use it twice in a month (so I hope the ink won't dry out very soon). I prefer to spend less than $200 to buy this printer. I have just couple of basic requirements.

  1. It can print both 'black and white' and 'color'
  2. It should have a scanner

Please provide any options/advice.

Thank you very much.

I've been happy with my epson ecotank mfp purchased through epson clearance centre. Models get added and sold all the time so keep an eye on it.

You can't beat an Epson Ecotank. Think of buying a Tesla Electric vehicle.

Yes Lasers are generally cheaper, depending on the unit, however, look for hidden costs like Drums etc, that need replacing (but most likely not for home use).

Canon and HP have similar models, however I have seen a high return rate on the Canons.

For infrequent usage like that, you're best off with a laser. The $200 budget will get you an Mono MFP. Highly recommend getting Brother 3750 for colour MFP. Generic toners are very cheap too

    • Do you know how often they restock their printers?

Ink printers are a money pit.

Get a laser. If you need to print color shoot it off to your nearest convenient print shop and pick it up to / from home.

Don't get an inkjet, especially infrequent use.

$350 will get you a reasonable colour laser MFP. The starter toner will probably last a year if you're only printing a handful of pages every week. You can find generic toner at a lower price as well.

I would suggest brother MFC laser. Once you are done with the toner taht comes with the unit, you can pick up cheap aftermarket toner and will work just fine.

    • True.

I just bought one toner from eBay for $15 and printer shows 566 pages could be printed form it.

Epson Ecotank or any other Tank printer but it will be more than $200. It will pay itself back in ink costs.

  • Thank you everyone

Tip for ink printers is to print something each week to stop heads from blocking….
