    25l brunning at $3.5 @woolworths

      That’s a rather different product.

    • Different quality maybe? Some will say "soil is soil", but there will be those who want to get the best possible for their leaf babies, especially during lockdowns.

      • +9

It’s kinda both different product and different quality.

This is a soilless and woodless mix used indoor to reduce bugs/fungus and maintain moisture.

I do accept that it’s a more niche potting mix then general ozbargain deals.

        Hopefully it’ll help someone.

This one is a premium mix with red check marks.
      30L for $6

      • Do you know if its any good? Previously Brunnings had a mix with premium in the name but it only had a black tick, and it was garbage.

        • +1

Debco is far superior in pretty much every way.

        • I confirm all the bad things about Brunnings.

        • I've used it and it seems fine.
The 'premium' is not a name they have given themselves - it is an Australian standard that they are required to meet to get the checks.
In fact, any 'premium' potting mix should be quality controlled, a decent mix, and have some added fertiliser for longer-term use.

          • @Almost Banned: 'Should' being the appropriate word. There are some absolute junk potting mixes with the black ("regular") tick. Red tick mixes are usually very good ime (I've tried plenty, sometimes mix regular and premium and add things like water crystals and coir myself, depending on the plant).

This deal mix is a different product though. It's a specialist indoor mix with coir, sphagnum peat, and perlite. Most premium mixes for general pot use won't contain any of those.

            • @[Deactivated]: Just saw something from Gardening Australia today which basically said any premium potting mix with about 25% added perlite should be good for pots.

              • @Almost Banned: Yep, most plants we buy aren't as finicky as we might think. Those that aren't hardy (too much/too little moisture, too much or wrong fertiliser, access to air around the roots, direct/indirect sunlight, pot and air temperature etc) will soon let you know by changing colour, drooping, dropping flowers and foliage, and carking. Most plants will recover provided you work out what the issue is and correct it quickly. Can be as simple as drowning a pot for a few hours in a large bucket of water or completely replacing the potting mix.

  • Thanks Ops, bought 5 for my indoor plants

Curious of what is the advantage of this product over Osmocote potting mix?
One could have bought osmocote 50L for $13
and osmocote seems to be considered as a premium product.

    • See Bad Wolf's comment above. Completely different product. Soil ain't soil.

    • +1

The Osmocote one is full of literally rubbish - plastic, string, even a rusty nail.

    • +2

I used the orange osmocote for most of my outdoor pots. Never really found foreign material in any bag.
It’ll does have 1-2cm thin pieces of bark/twigs, but I’ve found the bags to be pretty consistent between batches some brands are hit and miss.
The blue bag for an extra $5 has a lot less big bits.

Main advantage of the bag posted is a lot of staghorn peat for water retention (very spongy), and it should be more sterile so introducing less bacteria into your house

  • Oh no how is Amazon delivery driver going to conceal the 10 bags at my doorstep.I don’t want these get stolen :(
