Discount for Omega Watches?

Hi all, I'm based in Melb and am interested in buying an Omega Speedmaster. I have gone to the Chadstone boutique and was offered 5% off and an extra band for free.

Wondering if authorised dealers can do better? I have been told they can.

Any advice would be appreciated.

There's an AD in Sydney by the name of Shum's - has a great reputation and a lot of people have purchased speedmasters from him over the last few years. Couldn't tell you what discount you'd get, but I'd imagine he would do better than 5% from the boutique

Can confirm. Bought my Speedy there 4 years ago with 20% off.

OP - What's the second band they're giving you? Speedy always comes with a spare black NATO.

      • Like a black alligator leather band

    • Shum's is fine if you know exactly what you want and don't plan on expecting any after-sales service. You walk in, and you walk out.
Don't expect an 'experience' when buying your timepiece. It's a transaction at Shums. The end!

I recommend SwissConcepts hands down. They are an AD that will provide the best price (or like for like to anyone else) and you will still build a relationship, and have an enjoyable experience. Also, Wamada if there are other brands you are chasing. Between SwissConcepts and Wamada, you will be covered by most brands in the market in the lux market segment.

      The audacity

This is ozbargain, not ozrrp. Who cares what he's wanting to buy for a discount.

Old mate didn’t get rich paying rrp

frankly, this is a ridiculous attitude. Rich people don’t usually get rich(and stay rich) by not being frugal and wise with their money. All the rich people I know want to get value for their hard-earned dollars.

Shame you're in Melbourne. Had lockdown not been happening and you could make it to Sydney, then I'd have recommended you head to Swiss Concepts.

Depending on the model of speedmaster you're after, and availability, you might get 10% or even 20%. Keep in mind, if you have been offered 5% and a 2nd band, consider the value of the band if you would be likely to use it.

Remember, never walk into an AD expecting to get a discount. There is a reason the time piece is priced as it is. (Exception to Rolex *cough…) lol.

Being open and admitting I'm a bit of a watch w@nk6r, I can tell you this… The discount does not come from the cost of the product in such case, it comes from the relationship you have or build with the AD.

    Try another dealer, walk it, know your number (price), have your plastic ready to swipe and if they accept your offer then you haven't wasted your time or theirs, and will walk out with a new ticker. If they say no, then hard luck. You either pay more or walk out and stop wasting people's time (yours also). (;

The end… and hope this helps!

Good luck either way and hope you can get the piece you want at the right price!

  • You won't get a discount or much of a discount at a boutique store.

Try an authorised dealer and aim for 15% for a Speedy. 20% is hard these days.

There are only two ADs in Melbourne being Hardy Bros and Monards.

  • OP - I'm guessing you didn't do a search before posting either?

You might want to look at this thread from a few weeks ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/638312

    • Thanks Mickyb. Very informative and I'll wait until lockdown ends and try Monards.

      • SwissConcepts might ship interstate, I don't know. I've just always walked in and introduced people to the team.

Anyways, good luck with your purchase!

  • Consider Watches of Mayfair.

They are a grey dealer but offer a local warranty and decent prices. That being said, part of buying a luxury watch, especially if it's your first is the experience so buying from a boutique or AD might be worth it for you.

  • Check out Monards in melb cbd. Last time I went shopping for an omega, the first price they offered me when I asked was much lower than other “haggled” prices from other places who sold the watch I was after.

  • how about an Omeco Fukimaster instead?

  • Find a mate who works for the Swatch group, they get 30% off

  • How about a Galvin watch? Made in Sydney by a woman who used to work for Tag and Omega.

  • Why Omega?

    • To match with the Alpha…

      • I thought alphas only wear the 👑?

        • I wouldn't know, just a lowly-sigma here :\

    • They’re beautiful, easily available*, well made**, and well priced*** watches with a century of history behind the company. They have been involved in historical events from racing to moon landing and fiction like James Bond.

IMHO Omega is THE entry point for anyone who wants a new mechanical watch but can’t afford a Rolex. And some people prefer the design over Rolex and don’t care about some of the finer glitz.

      1. You generally can’t walk into an AD and buy a Rolex in stock. You can often buy an Omega.

      2. You can still get a 50 year old Omega officially serviced and any damage repaired. People do it all the time.

      3. Approximately half the price of a Rolex for similar precision and workmanship. Of course that extra bit of money does buy you something… the question is whether those are diminishing returns for you or not.

      • Whilst I agree that they are available & beautiful, I disagree on their pricing. I also encourage people not to buy into the Rolex hype.

Btw, my first entry watch was a Nomos :)

  • 5% and a band… you should be looking at BRAND, not band. 5%… hahaha, you tell them what you are willing to pay. You will be surprised in how low they will actually go.

Look at a more quality watch.

  • Brands such as Omega and Rolex have set prices from factory, if there's a discount from shop front means shop is overcharging then offering a discount to bring it down to mandated set price.

    • +2

Completely wrong as far as Omega goes. You can get 20% off the price listed on the Omega website at most ADs. Nothing dodgy at all.

Rolex ADs can not charge more than the price listed on the Rolex website or they can lose their Rolex dealership.

    • There is almost alway room for discounts for Omega watches. Except for rare ones or certain limited editions.

  • +3

Thanks all that contributed. Managed to get 15% off at Monards.

    • Nice. Was that the new or old model? Also, just out of interest, which did you go for? Saphire sandwich or hesalite?

      • +1

Hesalite. I didn't quite fancy the Sapphire sandwich because I have a watch that has it and it removes the text from the back and the seahorse image.
It's the new model with co Axial and less packaging. 310.30.42.50.01.001

    • Great work - I was set on a submariner but given the wait times etc. i'm leaning towards the Speedmaster (which was the watch I originally wanted) Good to see you got 15% off. I'm looking at model - 310.30.42.50.01.002 hopefully they would do 20%
