Where Can I Buy TART (Sour and Acidic Flavor) Jam?

I love homemade jam because it is often a lot more tart (in flavor, sort of sour and acidic). Commercial jams are always sweet.

Does anyone know where I can buy a commercial mass-produced jam that is tart?

Note that I'm not just looking for low-sugar jam or bitter tastes like marmalade. (low sugar is fine, even desirable, but I'm not interested in low-sugar jam unless it is also tart).

I don’t tend to eat jams but this one doesn’t use extra sugar. Might be worth a look.

  • Thank you. I have tried that range of jams. They are less sweet, but not more tart. To me, they just taste a bit bland. I appreciate the suggestion though.

No probs. Just as a matter of interest have you tried adding a little bit of lemon juice to the jam when you spread it. I do this with a few of my soups and it gives it a pop of zing. You can buy plastic containers of lemon juice so you can regulate how much you could add. I would mix a little bit on a saucer, first, to get the ratio that might work for you.

The other alternative might be to purée some fruit to put on bread rather than jam. I do this with blueberries and Greek yogurt.

Best of luck finding what you want.

Like adding salt/sugar to peanut butter (for ideal personal preference blend) have you tried to add some citric acid to a Jam that you enjoy?

Was going to recommend exact same thing - add a small amount of citric or tartaric acid powder, mix well. Completely safe and also very simple.

Alternatively learn to make your own jam, is super simple and once you make your own small batch jams you'll not go back to the mass produced commercial stuff. And yes, I do make my own and have done so for quite a while.

Is it just for home consumption? It's actually not that hard to make your own jam?

I also love tart flavoured jam. I usually buy rhubarb when it's on special/in season and bulk make a few jars of jam.

      This. Honestly, it's super easy.

My first response would be to agree with those saying make your own. It is super easy and will be exactly as you like it.

However, if you want a commercial jam, try Eastern European or Middle Eastern varieties (delis and most supermarkets), like sour cherry or plum. I also like tart jams and personally love certain slightly runny Turkish varieties.

Try Bon Maman jams. I find the raspberry nice and tangy.

I used to LOVE home brand raspberry, it was super tangy and delicious, tasting just like home made jam, but they stopped selling it years ago. Bon Maman is the closest I have found. Other brands taste plastic and fake.
