How to Buy a PS5 without The Hassle

Hi All,

I recently purchased a PS5 from BigW. You may have noticed that there are a number of Twitter Feeds going to alert you of stock availability, however, you may also know that they are not exactly spot on with their timing. I wanted to show you how I did it, so you can also score one as well.

Firstly you need a PC running chrome. Go to the Apps Store and install an add-on called:- Distill Web Monitor - This allows you to monitor changes on webpages, every 30 seconds is what I set it to. Simply head to the pages of Amazon, Target and Big W and get the web monitor (this is important) only the part of the webpage where the price appears (if you monitor the whole page you get alerts every couple of mins).

As soon as the stock comes in you can get an email, the page pops up and you can place your order being first in the line. I worked for me and I had one within 2 days of starting my search. I assume this is all the twitter feeds are doing HOWEVER there is a delay between the alert and the tweet… this is how you beat the crowd.

Any questions please ask.

:)

This post reminds me of The Verge PC Build Guide

You also need a table, tweezers and screw with confidence.

Don't forget the anti static wrist band. Ensure it is hanging loosely from your wrist.

A table and tweezers I can do. Screwing with confidence however…

This is the basic way of botting, yes. Most twitter feeds use more advanced scripts so they can react quicker to embed their referral affiliate links to make money off clicks.

Some can even automatically add items to your basket and others even automate the entire checkout process.

    • What are the good twitter feeds to follow?

Switch on mobile notifications for quicker heads-up.

This implies that the user is always using a device that has access to emails and a PC that's always on for this specific purpose. The PS5 drops are usually in 3-4 week cycles so your PC will sit there constantly refreshing 5 pages for weeks before anything interesting happens. I assume you couldn't even lock your PC either - so it's sitting there drawing power constantly.

Much easier to download Twitter, turn on notifications for the Twitter bots and wait for a buzz in your pocket.

Most 'drops' are in daytime hours. Yeah, generally more a hack for desk workers.

This widget notified me 1 min before the twitter bots, I managed to get one for my sons birthday. Just sharing :)

Just pay the market price of $1100 .

    • They're surely not still going for that much right? I've seen people list them for $850 and they're only just able to sell them

    • You got some nerve coming on to ozbargain and saying that

What is less hassle than pulling out a few extra bills hehe .
OP main topic I think .

Young bloke I game with on xbox works at a rural NSW (tamworth?) JB I believe and says they got more than 40 delivered last week.

They are only doing face to face sales to stop people buying 20 of them and cashing in

    • Oh so just come back Evey couple hours and grab them 😂 They really need to check IDs and have a linked database across all retailers but that would be too hard and the retailer's aren't really losing out..

  • I'm glad I got one just before Christmas last year on the second or third drop. I can't believe they are still having stock issues.

  • I remember just walking into EB games and they were still taking pre-orders, got one within 3 weeks. Told my mate, he went and got one within a few weeks as well (SE Melbourne).

  • The problem for not being able to follow Twitter is not that the information is fast enough, it is that the purchase website got flooded and becomes unresponsive.
You also need time to fill your order, delivery address, etc.
Ended up I bought one on Amazon following Twitter alert because Amazon supports 1-button buying, you can just finish the process in less than 15 seconds.

  • Do I need to keep Chrome open 24/7 to be monitoring? How do I monitor the Big W page as the price is shown as $749 so that element won't change even if it's in stock.

    • Monitor the block that says "Shop Online", that's what changes when its in stock. Yup, there's a paid option that monitors it when your machine is off.

      • Hmm I can't see to find the "Shop Online" element. I did a CTRL F for search and it doesn't find it.

  • Preorder and wait two months after you receive a text. No hastle

  • Thank you so much mate!!!

Set this up this morning exactly as you said and I'm pretty sure I got one from the BigW drop this arvo, I got the alert from this setup and had checked out with email confirmation a good 2 mins before all the twitter alerts started coming through.

    Woot!

    • Awesome. Yup, I scored one from Big W in exactly the same way. Glad it helped someone :)

      • Which part do I need to monitor? You said the "shop online" but I don't see that on the page.

        • It's the box under the price that is clearly marked "Shop Online" It contains the info about whether you can order for Pick up or for Delivery. Have a look at other BigW items that are actually in stock and it will be the box that has the big blue "Add to cart" button inside it.

          • @barry326: Here is a screenshot of what I'm seeing:

            https://ibb.co/6v3rxyG

There is no shop online under the price. Are you able to provide a screenshot please?

@Viospeed: I think you need to login to the site and then go to a different item that is in stock and set your preferred local store. Once you go back to the PS5 page it should look a bit different.

  • Does anyone have any heads up from a mate/work at a retailer and know of any upcoming PS5 shipments? After the disc version. Last time I tried to get one was from a BIGW drop but someone hacked their website and allocated themselves every available unit so BIGW ended up cancelling the drop, no idea what happened to that stock afterwards.

    • There's been lots of new stock this week of the new sub-model just released. Phone around local shops to see if there's any left. Some have had success.
