Got the 10L from the last time this deal was posted. If you’re on the fence, just get it. It’s a winner winner chicken dinner!

    • So not suitable for vegans?

    • Yes i picked it up from Aus Post the last time as well.. be mindful of the fact that it is a LARGE unit meaning it takes longer to cook. i had the philips before which cooks quicker, this does take longer to cook (ie chips takes at least 7 mins longer) but bonus is you can fit heaps of food

    • Amazing things that's for sure

  • can the 4L or 10L fit a whole size chicken??

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/644860

    • or the 6.5L one?

      • Yep im wondering this too. Suspect 6.5L can. 4L might be on small side?

    • I have the 10L it can easily fit a chook (standard size supermarket chook)

      • can the 6.5L fit a chook aswell??

Terrible product. There is no basket, just a drawer with a divider.

Forget tipping out chips etc. because you will essentially tip all the oil and scum from the draw onto them.

A proper fryer has 2 peices, the drawer and a basket that can be independently lifted out of the drawer. Not here tho, ultra budget.

Which one are you talking about? Are they all like this? Could you just use tongs?

      • -1

Yes, you need to use tongs. Which is a pain, especially for a product that is all about convenience.

3 other fryers I’ve used all had baskets. Indeed gave this one away and bought another with basket. It is a big deal for regular use.

I also like to heat up corn chips. Using tongs on something like that is ridiculous with small bits etc.

    • can anyone confirm this?

      • -2

I can confirm this product is rubbish.

    • A drawer and a basket has less space for the food, and is actually more work to hand wash, or more space to fill in the dishwasher and costs significantly more if you're comparing against a Philips. So, I would say, you're getting more pros than cons with this Mistral.

While the academic and CHOICE writer make excellent points, it's a shame the ABC didn't see fit to interview someone to make the case for air fryers. Obviously decided their position based on two people with the same opinion, or even before. The way of the media world these days. For one, they've dismissed the benefit of the fast heat up time, which addresses a major pain for many - preheating.

I see Ms Mair's (she may have been a little more balanced, and the journo simply chose not to include that) colleague gives a bit more of the pros:

      • Cheers for the added info.

  • Thanks, ordered 6.5lit. Hope mini chicken could fit in 😊

best fryer i have bought. I purchased the 10L one and am very very very happy with it. Before I had a philips, first one replaced under warranty and then it was fine, but it was way to small to do anything for a family unless u want some chips or a pizza pocket. This one I hit it hard and put a whole chicken medium size from Aldi, and it took about 2 hours at 185 turned over once, and it was perfect juicy delicious. Skin was amazing and brilliant. Have cooked pies (for me 23 minutes at 185 is perfect for one pie) love the product and at $89 compared to my philips at around $350 which was hit and miss when cooking i would rather pay 350 for the mistral than the philips.

Ye s it has no removable basket would be nice but not a big deal for me oil drips down below is a seperate compartment. the only thing is you just can't tip it out (well big deal). For this size at $89 am considering to buy another to replace the one i have when it finds itself at EOL.

  • This is horrible, do not buy it. It's so hard to simply close properly. No removal basket as others mentioned either. It also doesn't cook evenly on both sides, which defeats the point of an air fryer if you have to stop it half way and flip things, which makes it not fit for purpose.

    • even with a basket like the Philips this did not solve the problem of having to flip of stir the chips to cook evenly and nice.. Nothing new there, top priced or bottom priced range in this department seem to all have to flip a chicken etc.,..

With this 10L version i found it cooks evenly and perfectly, pies no need to do anything just cook and eat goes for all pizza's pies, etc.. only thing needed to do is rotate the chicken half way just like an oven.

    • yeah i have it.. closing the unit is a pain in the ass, its like you have to push 1 side in every time meaning doesnt slide back in nicely, the unit auto turns off if the basket is pulled out or not in properly, its not like the philips that keeps running when the basket is pulled out.. if you pull it out to check the unit turns off.. turns back on/resumes once you push the basket back in..

  • Can anyone recommend a better air fryer?

    • Arent the Kmart branded ones people recommend?

  • Thanks just ordered 6.5ltr

  • I bought the 10L air fryer the last time it was on sale and I love it! Highly recommend-easy to use & easy to wash! Cooks beautifully- have cooked schnitzels, meatballs, the typical fries, pastries and cake. Yes, it does not have a removable basket but it's not a big deal for me- I just use tongs (& one thing less to wash!!) Yes it's bulky cos its big-so tricky to flip over but again- I just use tongs!!! For $89 -it's basic & easy to use!

    • How do you wash the fryer if you can't remove the basket?

      • There is no inside/seperate basket inside the big basket-if that makes sense? Its just the one basket that you pull out and can wash.

  • Thanks OP, bit the bullet and ordered the 10L. Hoping this is a nice upgrade from my 5yr old 3.5L.

  • It says under the "feature" section: Includes a detachable non-stick food basket and rack for all types of food
    Can someone confirm this?
