LG V30+ - Failing USB Port

Hi,

I have a 2y1m year old LG V30+ with a failing USB port (almost constantly thinks there's moisture/dirt though there's none). I'm otherwise fairly happy with the phone, though the camera has never been the best.

So, 2 questions: firstly, is there an easy fix to the USB issue please? And secondly, are there any android unlocked outright deals at the mo? Bought this phone when it was popular here on OzB and it has been rock solid until yesterday.

Thanks!

Put it in rice to dry out and use a toothpick or something non conductive to clean out the port. You might need to check if the pins are bent also. If it's just charging the V30+ does support wireless charging. My v30+ is still alive and kicking, knock on wood.

Do you have a budget for a new phone?

    • I think it's bent pins, most likely. I had it plugged in next to the bed and tripped over the charging cable a couple of days ago. Nothing right before the issues cropped up though. If I can avoid buying a new phone right now, that would be my first preference.

    EBay

Looks to be a serviceable part so either do it yourself or get a quote.

    Use a wireless charger

    • That too…

Nokia 8.3 5G is $348 @ JB HIFI. It may not be the best phone but definitely, it's a solid deal at this price point.

    • Unfortunately not on the website any longer, so unavailable to purchase. Thanks though.

Next time, buy first and think later! OzBargain Motto!

  • I don't know why, but I always had it in my head that wireless chargers have something permanently plugged into the USB port to accept the charge from a base station, but a quick google says that's not the case.

So … given I'm in metro Melbourne and locked down, where would I find a compatible wireless charger please?

    • eBay or Amazon.

      • Thanks. Should I be looking for a certain brand or specs please?

LG V30 maxes at 15 watts with wireless charging. No specific brand or protocol is required, just buy a wireless charger from anywhere.

Some wireless charging pads do not come with the USB charger brick, just BYO.

You just need a qi wireless charger. Less than $15 delivered on ebay.

Just noting the phone gets a bit warm when charging.

Unfortunately seems to be a common issue. You can fix yourself if handy, otherwise I would start looking for an upgrtade.

It worth a shot. But try and use your right under the ACL. Say to the retailer, your phone while is out of warranty, should last longer than 2 years given the amount you payed. If they don't fix it or just tell you too bad, get it repaired by phone repair shop, pay for it and ask the retailer to foot the bill on it (If it a major retailer like JB, send it to their head office).

I don't think tripping over the phone is covered under warranty.

A failing USB does not only occur if someone trips over their phone…specially if it a common fault and USB connection is subject to wear. Beside, how would the retailer prove it's user negligence.
