    5 is coming in Oct/Nov

    • That was going to be my first question.

  • +2

At $99 is when I'll pull the trigger

    • Then why didn't you pull the trigger last month?

    • I was waiting for this for a while now! Just picked it up - have a feeling the cost will go up again

  • Does it need subscription to use it?

    • standard function, no.

Premium stuff yes, like special sleep report etc. you can get a 3 months trial from the app and see if you like it.

  • Any recommendations on a fitbit to track sleep patterns?.

    • My Charge 4 did it on trial premium, but it didn't seem accurate to me

  • Hey if I bought one 3 days ago @178 can I return?

Note for those who want to use this for tracking their runs: the GPS tracks where you run to show it on the map, but it uses estimated stride length in conjunction with the step counter to guesstimate how far you ran and at what speed; it could and should use the GPS coordinates to work it out, but for whatever crazy reason it doesn't. This makes it highly inaccurate.

    • oooh that's not good. where did you find this out?

I bought one of these a while ago, because it was the first time I saw this much capability in such a small watch. The hardware is impressive. But after using it, I noticed that the statistics showing in the Fitbit app differed from those in Strava (I had configured my Fitbit account to sync to Strava). Strava distances were shorter, and speeds lower (because it used the actual GPS coordinates, ignoring distances provided by Fitbit). So I started doing my research. In the Fitbit forums, there are many complaints from people pointing out this issue of GPS coordinates not actually being used to determine distance and speed. When I downloaded GPS logs of my runs, I noticed how at each measurement, there was an accurate GPS coordinate, but the incremental distance did not add up compared to the locations; the distance between steps was always the same, and differed from the distance between GPS coordinates.

I returned my watch to Amazon, because I did not consider it fit for purpose. While Strava can give me some of the statistics, it does not give me enough.

I use a Garmin Forerunner 245 now. It's large, but good battery life and fewer issues.

Wow. Yeah that's annoying. The main thing I wanted it for was to track distances and speeds without taking my phone. Thanks for the comprehensive response!

  • Do these break as easily as the earlier models?
How is the water resistance these days?
Disappointed how quickly earlier models broke and died in a little water.

TBH I have had to get my last fit bits replaced twice under extended warranty. First time was a charge 2 after 6 months and they gave me a 3 and I paid a little extra and then more recently I got the charge 4 to replace the faulty 3. They can just die for no reason blank screen etc and yes with little water although this charge 4 so far seems to be going ok with getting little splashes but I am happy the exchange under warranty goes straight forward and easy so have been happy to continue buying them for family. I would never ever buy one with the factory standard warranty though - only with the extended warranty. Today’s price is good but if you get one buy the extended warranty for $24 which will cover you up to 3 years instead of 1.
