Bought a Chair from Officeworks but Wanting to Return It

Bought a chair about 2 weeks ago but after using it for 2 weeks have decided it's not the most comfortable for sitting for multiple hours. Wanting to return the item (I have receipt but not box) was wondering if anyone has had any issues with returning office chairs? I also didn't buy it from my local as they don't sell chairs but from another store ~15mins drive away which was larger. Would it matter which store I returned it to?

    Call Officeworks and ask.

Return for change of mind usually requires the item to be in original packaging and in resaleable condition.

Or are you going to claim it's a faulty product?

    • well within 2 weeks the lumbar support backrest portion has become really loose

      • If it is faulty you don't need the box, just the receipt.

        • They'd just write it off and dispose atm.

Not sure if you can return it for refund if you do not have the original packaging.

Change of Mind Returns – 30 days
If you have changed your mind about your purchase, Officeworks will be pleased to offer you a refund or exchange provided that:
The item is in re-saleable condition, including its original packaging (if any), is unused and as sold

    Officeworks return policy

  • Just wheel it in and explain that it's not the most comfortable for sitting for multiple hours. Make sure to sit on the chair whilst waiting in the line. They will be more than happy to help you out.

  • It's been used so no unless it's faulty or not fit for purpose (which it doesn't sound like it's either)

    Wheel it back

  • You can return without original packaging. Need to have original receipt though. I returned after 4 months because it was hurting my back.I did not even pack it because it was difficult to remove gas lift. But also the chair had 10 years warranty (Ergonomic office chairs category, lil bit expensive). I returned it at tarens point officeworks. CS called manager and he did not ask any questions.

    • that's good to know! have the original receipt

Hey everyone - stop buying shitty chairs from Officeworks. Far better off spending another $50 from a real office furniture store in most cases.

please name a real office furniture store that's open during lockdown so i can try them, thank you

      • I have no idea where you are. But start looking at some online stores at the very least and start getting an idea of what you might get for the money you want to spend.

Some specialist stores will actually provide short term trial chairs for you. Some were even delivering during first COVID lockdowns.

Sounds like you grabbed one of the extra-cheap OW specials. Which model was it?

          • @edumacation: Yes, that is the $200 chair that costs about $30 to make. It's a J. Burrows chair, but sourced directly from China and basically an 'Officeworks' branded chair.

Depends on your budget. Anything Buro or Harworth at >$350 from OW (if you must buy there) should be 10x better at 50% additional cost than what you had. Buro Persona is the best value there, any higher then you go for either a Seratti Mesh ($850-ish) or Seratti Pro ($1050) from a proper Ergo store. Make sure you get the headrest models. Best value chair out there right now.

    • What brands do you recommend.

First there websites I found boasted about quality chairs, selling rapidline, Buro and many others. Most chairs I checked were stocked by Officeworks… Identical. And far cheaper

But maybe I found the wrong sites.

      • Buro is fine, in fact very good. If you can get them cheaper at OW, go for it. These are not usually stocked in store though, delivery or click & collect mostly. When I say an Officeworks chair, I mean an Officeworks branded chair & available in store on a walk-in basis.

If you must buy at OW, Buro Persona Highback is the best pick. Haworth Zody/Fern also a great chair, but I would instead pick the Seratti Pro w/Headrest from a more specialized seating store for about a hundred bucks more: https://seated.com.au/product/serati-high-back-chair-with-he…

  • If you are buying another one you will probably be ok, however just a refund will largely depend on who you get serving you.

It's their brand so it's good margin, I'd just go in really nice and try my luck.

  • If you do buy another from officeworks I tested all of them just before the lockdown in store, and most comfortable for me was this Pago one irrespective of price. https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/radar-ii-e…

FWIW it says you can sit on it 8 hours at a time (compared to the stated 3-5 hours for your one) and it works for me very well for WFH
