  • Difference between this and BES920BSS?

    • this has a built-in grinder and single boiler
920 has dual boilers without built-in grinder.
maybe steamer of 920 is faster.

      • Thank you.

      • This does not have a boiler.
It is still a thermal coil.

      • So what has a dual boiler + grinder in it? Or is a seperate grinder better?

        • Only the Oracle series have dual boiler and built in grinder.
The steam wand on my Oracle kind of sucks. The bes920 is much better.
To be honest I'm not sure what benefit this has over the bes870 for $509 but the 870 is a brilliant home coffee machine.

Separate grinder is way way better.
More expensive and takes more bench space.
But better in every other aspect.

          • @SickDmith: Not necessarily. The Oracle has a great grinder auto tamper feature which provides good consistent Crema. In comparison to the smart grinder pro they are on par. You should never really store beans in your grinder if it's separate or combined. Every time you make a coffee it should be added from an airtight container.
My Oracle just relies too heavily on auto frothing as manual frothing really sucks on it

            • @maverickjohn: Breville Smart Grinder is pretty low bar. :) That was my point. Most standalone grinders will be "an upgrade".

I am surprised Oracle steaming is bad. I got plain Breville Dual Boiler and steaming is Ok - not a commercial grade steaming but better than a lot of other domestic machines.

This or Bambino plus and smart grinder?
Also if you have eBay plus does it knock another $42.45 off the price above?

    For the general questions

    Pros
    - Built-in grinder (can be a con)
    - Digital Screen
    - Lots of spare parts in the future
    - Fast heat-up time

    Cons
    - Built-in grinder isn't the best solution for coffee. Suggest you don't store beans in there.
    - No pressure gauge
    - Single boiler/ thermoblock = inconsistent heat. Beville BES920 has dual boilers (better for milk steaming)

I bought this machine about a month ago for $750 on eBay. Once I got the grind settings right and bought a milk thermometer it's now amazing. I'm no coffee (profanity) who has to get freshly roasted beans for $50kg I use Vittoria beans when they are on special . Use the double wall supplied filters (I didn't know what that was) makes a big difference for store bought beans produces a nice Crema.

    • Double walled or pressurised filter is more forgiving with the grind/stamp process while single walled requires more control and more difficult but gives better result once mastered. So I read anyway.

    • I can't find any info anywhere stating that if you purchase via Binglee or TGG (the good guys) on eBay you will still receive their fathers day gift promo.

Does anyone have any info on this?

Getting the barista pro for $730 with the father's day promo would be awesome!

  • I bought this machine last father's day, impresses me every day :) Just note that there is no boiler in this, it works like your hot water tap LOL If there is pressure or resistance, it will then create the temperature which is required 92C or above. I figured out that you still need to warm the machine, head, and the porta to get a decent shot. Run 2 or 3 blind shots using a double-walled filter then use the single wall filter to pull the shot. I think, compared to 870, Pro is a little faster and better. But, it is no way near a dual-boiler option in espresso machines. I keep thinking to switch to an Italian dual boiler, it is good it's not perfect.

    • Even after spending 700-800 on this, you still need to spend on some accessories like distributor tool, a decent milk jug, naked porta, IMS baskets etc LOL
