Q: How many amps do I need to jump start my car?
A: 400 to 600 amps will be more than enough to jump-start any normal, consumer vehicle. Commercial vehicles may require up to 1500 or 2000 amps. Compact and small vehicles can be boosted with as little as 150 amps.

  • Jump start current is 200-350A if anyone is interested.

Yeah saw that earlier today and saw how low this was anyone driving a reasonable sized car will sinoly be wasting their money

      • Definitely, I got one for my mum a few years back and had no idea of amperage at the time.. It worked well for the petrol Mazda 3 but it didn't work on her diesel cruze which was a pain!

I've now got the diesel Cruze in question and will probably pick up the 800A Blitzwolf jump starter.

  • *Normal, consumer vehicles with petrol engines.

I have an i30 diesel (1.6) and a 900 amp jump starter will not jump it in the cold when the ignition is clicking when fully charged.

You'll notice at SCA the jump starters have a petrol and diesel rating on them

    • I read this before posting it, the jump start power is up to 6L gas engines and 3L diesel engines. The 5 star reviews are 151 out of 169.

Have the previous Costco Winplus jumpstarter, has just enough juice for a couple cranks. Started my Forester and got me out of trouble a couple times though.

Personally I'd grab the Gooloo 2000a when it goes for around the $100 price.

    • Yep gooloo are good. I've had the 1500A version for 2.5yrs

Save me many times when my battery was in the way out & the kids left the light on/door open

    • Will keep my eye out for the 2000a version, crossed my mind the other day, battery is getting low due to lockdown and not going anywhere lucky I wasn't in a rush and a trickle charger was fine but keen to have a better backup.
