Issue with TechFast Intel PC (Solved)

I had got a pre built from techfast with i7 10700f with the Asus b460m tuf mobo.

Tried few benchmark and the cpu throttled to about 3.6-3.8 ghz as soon as the benchmark commenced.
Thought it was the stock cooler so got an aio.
There is no issue with cpu temp but the result was the same.
I turned on APE in the bios and now it goes upto 4.1ghz all core while using cinebench.

Anyone had this issue? Or is the mobo really crap. Can't find any info in the internet about this.
Anyone who got that pre built, can you please inform if you had the same issue.

Don't think there is issue with gaming in general but it would effect heavy multi threaded softwares.

    Have you asked them?

I haven't asked them but I will do so now.

  • It's an artificial restriction on power usage but you can bypass with Asus Performance Enhancement (APE)

    • I did use APE but all core only goes to 4.1 ghz..Normally it goes to 4.6ghz all core

Does Intel XTU show an indicator for Power Limit Throttling?

the download link is already provided by bazingaa

Is there also a a setting for base frequency boost in BIOS? If there is, set it to the maximum allowable value.

ASUS Multicore Enhancement (MCM) should also be set ON, but I don't think your motherboard will have that feature since MCM is typically only found on Z series chipset

Try the settings in the bios?

  • +3

Holly Molly, just selected the performance mode in bios and APE is on..
Now all core hits 4.6 ghz all the time. Temp got to about 88 c with the long test r23 cinebench.
Scores match with online average score for this cpu now.
    Thanks all.

    • Yes, I think I win IT support even though you worked it out in the end

Nice that it was an easy fix. Hopefully it doesn't get too hot for other stuff.

      • I'm not familiar with this so I just don't understand, why is there an option to get the "default" average speeds for this CPU? Shouldn't teh CPU come at teh default speed, with maybe an option to overclock or boost to higher speeds?

Maybe to prevent users from doing something silly. I can't say for sure. I doubt the PC builder checked
