  • motion sickness here. won't be able to enjoy so many great games.

    • try mordhau

    • I tried it and made it to the exit of e1m1 before I started feeling icky (aka motion sickness). I never got "motion sickness" from gaming until playing DooM on the Playstation (1997ish). Funny thing is I had played it for months before it started happening when I noticed it, I was playing in a room with a lot of screen glare, since then it would happen almost every time I played the damn thing. It's seldom happened on console FPS games over the years since (The Half Life Orange Box collection on the 360, TimeShift also on 360…. plus a few others. Yet the COD series, Rainbox Six series didn't have any impact). Funny thing is I played the updated Quake on pc for an hour while waiting for my xbox to update and download the game…………. no motion sickness at all. Boring story aside it's good to see it on Xbox!

Crank up the FOV, turn off motion blur, turn off head bobbing, play in windowed mode, sit back from your monitor etc

    • Does higher fps and modified FOV help?

      • +1

I'll tinker with it and see, perhaps my genetic makeup means SOME (not all) FPS games on consoles are a no go zone for me. It could be the frame rate on console impacting my brain wanting it to move faster. I also sometimes get tired eyes from watching bluray/4k movies the 23/24 fps creates a judder effect which irritates them. I fix it by using the motion smoothing technology on the tv…. but then the faster motion makes things look unnatural depending on the camera movement. The pc version of Quake is chef's kiss beautifully done.

    Excellent remaster, lots of fun

  • Quake 2 such a good game

    • I’d love to have Quake 2 ported, especially if they can port over the ray tracing added to the engine a few years ago as a bit of a tech demo.

  • +9

Great game. But I SHUDDER at the thought of doing rocket jumps on the gamepad.

Make no mistake: this is the gaming event of the year.

Ummm…Ariana Grande was in in Fortnite 2 weeks ago.

    • +14

I can't tell if this is serious or satire and that's what makes it brilliant.

    • +1

Ummm, haven't you seen they're putting that dude in green from fortnite in the new Halo game?

      • +4

I hear Halo is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills aleins and doesnt afraid of anything.

    • +2

was in in Fortnight 2 weeks

      That’s redundant.

  • +6

    Idk it’s no HEXEN II

Don't agree it merits a deal, but I have absolutely been loving this re-release and will upvote nonetheless.

Quake 3 is probably my all time favorite shooter. Earlier today I found out about this rerelease and thought I'd Google if it was on Game Pass, assumed it would be, and I saw articles saying Quake 1, 2, and 3 were on GP and I nearly shit myself, turned out 2 and 3 were only on PC which sucks but oh well.

If you, like me, are still craving your Quake 3 fix every chance you get, don't sleep on www.quakejs.com it's a Javascript port of the deathmatch mode from Q3A that runs in browser, you can have up to 5 bots and it's got the first 4 or 5 maps available, been around a few years now, still a fantastic little novelty to scratch that Quake itch on console until they FINALLY make the 360 Quake Arena Arcade back compat.

PS, I'm a console gamer through and through, and prefer handheld at that, I'm as far from a PC gamer as they come, and even I agree Quake 3 plays better with a keyboard. First and only game I'll say that for.

So many countless hours of my grade 10/11 lunch breaks in high school playing in the pc lab with shareware q3A against the other kids. I would get whipped, hard as could never get my head around the more advanced techniques like flick shots and rocket jumps but man some good times.

      • +2

ahahaha YES! Same here. Was year 8/9 for me but (profanity). I will proudly claim being the bloke who spread that shareware demo around Boronia Heights (shoutout to Ben who gave it to me first though). Fantastic times! It got spread around so far that like you could jump on and almost always someone else would be in an MP match you could join. All the stupid names people had too, brilliant. (profanity) love it.

        • The IT Guy/ HOD of IT at the time of our school had a massive crackdown as some kids had figured out how to spread shareware like quake arena and this other elastic bmx game and offline miniclip games.

Any one caught with those files on personal drive or accessing shared drive was hit with a monetary fine and weeks of detention.

          • +1

            @Jimothy Wongingtons: ahahah a fine? That's a bit much.

They cracked down on us too, I remember zipping the thing and getting around it for a while by running it through WinRAR, so then it became a quest to get WinRAR on every computer with it, then they wouldn't allow installing of that either, honestly I don't remember if they ever fully stopped us or we gave up or they did or what, I ended up leaving that school at the end of year 9.

Also got the demo of Midnight Club 2 (w/ online) spread around quite a bit, and the original Call of Duty and Vice City. Loading Vice City was great, I distinctly remember the teachers being aware and a few (profanity) basically firing it up and seeing if they could smash out the first mission before a teacher would walk over and kick them off, beautiful.

            • @TheDukeOfNukem: I vividly remember being rounded up with the other boys and given an amnesty: delete the files by end of week or cop it.

Me being a wuss, deleted the files.

The others who called the bluff, copped it (detention and a fine)

Our year level (this went on various forms between year 7 and 9) it was mostly Doom and Doom 2, but Duke3D and Quake also made appearances. As well as Big Red Racing and…… Wacky Wheels (so random but ok lol). It was eventually clamped down on and stopped :(. Amusing thing is many years later……. a bunch of us in our early to mid 20's were doing the same thing at tafe and uni but with 'updated' games like the original COD, C&C Generals as well as Warcraft 3.

          • +2

@hawktalk: F’n love me some wacky wheels.

And my uni years was about 5% assignments and 95% cod, cs go, and original DOTA. Unfortunately my hecs debt and grades are testament to how well I did academically…

            • +2

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Yes! I have many memories with that game… I think I started playing it at a library or school and still have the full game files! (DM me lol, it’s abandonware now)

So many lunchtime sessions with Age of Empires too. And the inevitable 5 minutes of precious time wasted with people dicking around readying up.

              • @ctg: Yes! Age of empires and to a lesser extent rise of empires, also fond memories of being smashed in that.

    • Bookmarked that, cheers

    • one of the best competitive fps titles for sure, skill ceiling too high probably why its not so popular lol, you go on a server and you're fighting people with 10 years experience XD

  • +3

Heres to those who love quake and carmack, and to those who understand what the heck he’s talking about.

  • Sneaky stealth drop, ah well I can't feel too bad about the ~$2 I spent on the earlier deal today for a steam copy.

Looks like Quake 2 and 3 Arena are on gamepass also.

    • I'd rather pay the $2 than have it through MS

      • Lol now you've really hurt the evil trillion $ companies feelings…

        • Hahaha lol

      • +1

I've got some bad news for you then.

In 2010 id Software was acquired by Bethesda Softworks, part of ZeniMax Media.

ZeniMax was acquired by Microsoft in March 2021.

        • Why bad news for me?

My preference for Steam is because it's my primary platform for my games library.

  • Ohhh the memories playing Wolfenstein 3D on my brand new 486 computer then moving onto paint to calm down and tad.

  • +1

What a game, spent many hours playing quake 1 online as a kid. Loaded this up on my Xbox one this morning and it is still awesome.

  • Just gave it a whirl, brings back memories. It's a little surreal playing this old game on an ultra-widescreen monitor, lol.

  • +1

Wait, is this like 25 years old?

    • +4

      Older than you?

    • +1

Yep, one of the first games I got for my shiny new 3Dfx card.

      • First time I played it was I got to try one of the first Power PC Macs.

I then hated having to go back to the Motorola CPU in my old Mac.

  • Looks like only Quake 1 is Xbox One, Quake 2 and 3 say “Xbox Game Pass for PC” and don’t show in the Xbox One game store

    • Yeah I can only find Quake on Xbox console

  • Tried all 3 on my PC. Quake 1 felt the best and was super quick after the work they have put in. Sadly quake 2 doesn't have any of the amazing music which made it so much fun.

  • Quake 1 and 2, my first love in first person shooters. I never liked Doom, Hexen (or was it Heretic?) or Wolfenstein as much as I LOVED (and still LOVE) Quake.

  • Will this be quad damage to my bank balance if the subscription renews at full price?

  • Is this the RTX version or not?

  • +5

Awesome free update for Quake on PC now the game is complete with NIN soundtrack and it looks fantastic

  • Is Game Pass Ultimate $1 for the first month only? I remember it was $1 for three months?

    • +1

$1 for 3 months offer might have expired.

You can however, get 3 months of Game Pass by trialing out Crunchyroll anime streaming sub. Cancel the trial before it expires to avoid getting charged.
