    These are basically like all the other cheap disposable masks - dust/pollen masks. Anti-fine sure, but not anti-virus.

    But for $0.10 each what do you expect?

    I ordered a box because Mitre 10 is 5 minutes from me. I just hope they don't give me sore ears like the current ones I use.

        While these cheap masks don't really stop the virus, because they are too coarse, they do cut down the distance an infected person spreads the virus particles. So in theory, they slow transmission in the population.

        But that was based on the "particle" theory when Covid was new (early strains). The delta variant is "more airborne" with a higher transmission rate, so who knows if these are as effective as before.

        Still, better than not wearing anything. And, I believe, better than those cloth/cotton reusable masks a lot of people have.

          These 3 layer type mask is what majority of people use. It stops >90% iirc and that’s good enough if you’re also avoiding coming too close with others, etc. or it was until delta came about.

          I think at 10c a pop you can double mask…
          Most probably make the 95% efficiency to 99.75%

          Mask main goal is to stop people who have covid spreading it as they would be coughing into their mask instead of into the air, but if you double mask, you most probably can reduce the chance of catching it too.

          Note: With the cloth mask, you can buy those mask inserts and put it into the cloth mask. Similar to double masking.

          Double masking is quite common in hospital when there's something contagious and also Asian countries.

            @SeVeN11: I'm no expert but have tried to read up on this. My take is that as these masks leave gaps its significant liability since delta came about. Yes it greatly reduces risk from droplets and limits the distance your breath may travel/spread (and in theory same for others and their risk to you). But delta is a whole other beast when it comes to airborn spread and linger. I feel these offer very very limited protection from that, you are breathing air quite a bit of that coming from the gaps not through the filter medium, but it could be the difference between whether you catch or spread a high viral load or low.

            I personally would not want to be in a shopping center let alone a vaccination hub wearing one where covid is rampant in the community. Save them for strolling outside where you have more control over personal space or otherwise in a low risk area.

    in regards to quality ….. with the lockdowns and changes to outdoor, it’s more that you need to wear a mask rather one of a spec and vaccine is probably more helpful in keeping you out of hospital

    the govt doesn’t specify quality or how well it needs to fit, etc , so these come in handy at this price to just have around if the elastic breaks and you need a replacement mask, or you need a mask for others so handy in the car ……

    Maybe my head is just big or something but all the masks Ive gotten are too small. I went to get vaccinated last Sunday and they gave us new masks and the ones they gave were so damn comfy it actually made me want to wear it. Anyone know where to find some more looser fitting ones? The ones I get seems like they're made for children or something..

          Another response to myself - I’ve just heard from my local Mitre 10 who said they only receive 1 stock delivery a week and my order just missed out for last weeks run. Told to expect an email to collect on Thursday, possibly Friday. Hope that helps someone!
