  • Already? Crikey that’s quick. CoD League Champs just finished today.

    • it was announced at Champs

  • Should be interesting

  • how long has cold war been?

    • +23

It ended in the 90s after the fall of the Soviet Union.

    • Historians do not fully agree on its starting and ending points, but the period is generally considered to span the 1947 Truman Doctrine (12 March 1947) to the 1991 Dissolution of the Soviet Union (26 December 1991).
      So about 44 years.

Given it's CoD, how many terabytes of space will it need?

    • +5

And then have to download another TB after they do a minor update

    • I think I read the final game will be about 250gb, but that also includes Warzone.

Anybody been following this enough to tell me I won't get annoyed at this game after a month like the last few?

SBMM really killed the previous iteration for me, I feel like I got punished for doing well.

    • +5

Is that Skill Based Matchmaking? Doesn’t that just mean you did well against people who weren’t as good as you? You were punished by being put into games with all the other good people? ..I should probably just Google but commenting seems easier.

Wouldn’t it be like a Rocket Leaguer complaining they have to play in Champion, and regularly lose games, whereas they were ‘good’ when they were playing in Bronze?

Definitely just asking, not implying anything about your or your skill level!

      • +4

I haven't played rocket league, but I think bronze and champion are comp ranks? In cod even in public games they sbmm which frustrates alot of people (generally high skill) as if they wanted to play competitive games against people of similar skill they would play ranked, but with sbmm they are "forced" to try hard all the time. I can admit it can be frustrating as playing with friends that are much better than me can drag me into lobbies that have players that are much much better than me. But that can go the opposite way as well. It's a contentious topic but I much prefer the old MW2/black ops matchmaking.

        • +3

Something I found difficult was playing with friends who were generally negative players and the playlist being based off my skill level or someone ranked higher in the lobby.

It isn't fun when the odds are against you from the get-go and it is by design.

Imagine playing games like it's ranked on casual playlist. Cold War's beta had SBMM lol. I agree with playing guys on your skill level but ranked should be the solution for that. Public should be random having one good game or even average shouldn't become a sweat fest after which is so off putting.

        Yes it is!

My frustration at SBMM is it is a forced 'competitive' playlist. As much as I enjoy competitive (league play etc), an outlet to just relax is also great. I generally play SND and do well in that, but then when I swap to Respawn I tend to come up against people who are good at that (and I am not), which leads to a fairly punishing experience.

I play Rocket League too, and absolutely love ranked play (currently sitting in C2). But sometimes I don't feel like sitting up and not blinking for an entire game, so I play casual/extra modes.

I feel COD didn't have this option last year!

Yours and all of the responses like it make total sense - you’re forced to play ranked as there’s effectively no casual mode. I loved your “not blinking for an entire game” comment. Thanks for taking the time to explain it!

  • Another year another cod release, wonder if the new game will have cheat protection this time

    • Apparently it will. Comes with a new warzone map.

    • I hope the warzone version of vanguard will have strong anti-cheat software. I really enjoyed Warzone for a long time - but the hackers ruined it :(. I only play rebirth now as it seems hackers don't visit that mode (IMO).

The other annoying part is that they now just band console and PC players together which sucks. It isn't warzone's fault though, I think Fortnite started that trend and it just continued into other games.

Had the opportunity to work as an environment artist on this game. Looking forward to playing the beta

  • The announcement of SBMM killed this game for me.

  • How is a ps plus subscription not required for multiplayer? Don’t u still need a subscription for online game modes

    • +1

Some games work without the requirement of a PS Plus subscription where Sony allows it. Activision has a partnership with Sony for the Call of Duty franchise and this is an exclusive alpha open to everyone on the PS4/PS5.

This 48-hour play session is your first opportunity to play Call of Duty: Vanguard two months before its November 5 release, and for most PlayStation owners, a PlayStation® Plus Subscription is not required* (*PS4™ and PS5™ owners in Germany will need a PS Plus subscription due to the game’s age rating). Only a console and an internet connection are needed to participate with no preorder required.

Thanks for the info. I did read the details in the link but I didn’t know there was exceptions for some companies / games.
