From the other comments it looks like you're fine if you're just going to be streaming things through your TV and having it connected to the soundbar through ARC (via HDMI). If you're planning on using it for consoles or 4k chromecasts or something, then the HDCP might be an issue.

      • I normally watch netflix off a 4k firestick. Would I benefit from this or wait for a slightly higher end one?

  • Can you run the soundbar via Bluetooth?
Like no connection from the tv to the soundbar or can it only work with a hdmi cable?

Ideally I want to place the soundbar behind the lounge and have sound from TV and soundbar.

Is this for people behind the couch?

    • Can you run the soundbar via Bluetooth?

That's more of a question about what you want to connect to it, than the sound bar itself.

In general but I've used Bluetooth speakers with the Apple TV before and don't recommend it. Bluetooth sucks. Doesn't always repair and potential for audio delay.

      • Depends on what you’re pairing to it. Perfect sync paired with my AirPods Pro.

  • TGG Ebay is so broken with stock levels. Always tells me there are no stores near you that carry this item, yet you check on the website and every store around me has it.

    • TGG seem to be the most incompetent retailer in Australia in my experience. I don't get how their parent company JB manages them.

      • That's a big statement. Bunnings, Woolies, and JB all have pretty awful websites. And compared to overseas, retail websites in general are appalling.

        • I’m not just talking about their website. Everything about them turned to 💩 after JB brought them out.

        • I think Bunnings and JB are a whole different category of bad compared to woolies - not fair to put them all in the same group.

          • @Kill Joy: I honestly think that there are way way worse websites than any of these three… Woolies and Bunnings will tell which which aisle products are located in now, so thats a lot better than most already.

  • Are there any better alternatives in this price bracket?

    • The Yamaha is still available for $219 but from what I've read, the Samsung HW-A450 is better value. It is however in a completely different price range (normal price $349) but has only been seen once at below $200.

      • Thanks Scrimshaw, is that based on sound quality or features? That Yamaha doesn't even come with a sub.

        • I think if you're just after something with good sound quality the Samsung Soundbar is the best choice, but if you want a soundbar that has useful features like a voice assistant and the ability to stream music without needing to pair a mobile phone, the Yamaha is pretty decent value.

I also stumbled on this deal

          Samsung 320W 2.1CH Soundbar HW-T550 with Subwoofer $199
          https://openshop.com.au/product/304875

This has a 7 rating on Rtings which is very good, although I have no experience with buying from OpenShop.

          • @scrimshaw: Sound quality. Sorry i should have been more specific.

I'll check out the Samsung you linked 👍

          • @scrimshaw: Bit the bullet and purchased the Samsung HW-T550. Was sold out in your link but managed to find the last one on ebay for $199.

It's hard to decide which speakers to buy on line when considering sound quality but comparisons i could find were mainly comparing the HW-T550 to the higher model JBL 2.1 deep bass.

Cheapest i could find the JBL 2.1 deep bass is around the $500 mark so $199 for the Samsung seems a good deal.

      • Today, I saw Samsung HW-A450 in Costco store for $264.99, not online.
