      I don't know if BBT club was that amazing… it didn't feel cheap enough to warrant the effort required to cook the pearls (had I gone with rainbow jelly or one of the others which don't require boiling/straining/etc then I might have a different view).

        Bubble tea club is expensive for what you get if you buy the small packs.

        I buy the powder, pearls and syrup in bulk from bubbletea.com.au and it works out to ~$1 a glass.
        The most expensive bulk pack at bubble tea club is $3 a glass.

        The good thing about this deal is quicker pearls. But are they as good?

            @jordan23140: The flavoured powder is sweet and can be used on its own like ordering just a plain flavoured milk tea. So it's not necessary to have the syrup.

            I have a large bottle of blueberry. It's so thick and strong it will last me years. I use it with ice cream as well.

      If you like amazing, get the DIY Xing Fu Tang. It's really expensive but wow worth the calories. The steep price will ensure that you won't consume much bubble tea, so your body will thank you.

      ..or buy the tea, syrup and pearls from online wholesalers like Utea which is all made Taiwan.

      Two weeks ago I bought another 2Kg of brown sugar pearls for $19 and 2.5 Litres of Syrup for $17. Comes to around $50 with shipping and makes a hell of a lot more than 6 drinks, more like 40-50 or so. Already had left over fructose and tea which is all you need and you save a fortune compared to those overpriced home kits ( even more if you buy in bulk and get the wholesale prices)

          Tried the milk tea flavour last night.

          Can't speak for Sydney but obviously nowhere near as good as a store bought one.

          It did however satisfy my craving for tapioca pearls

          Don't get the fruit (mango / peach) flavoured ones. The bubble was flour-y and the mixture just tasted … strange, at best.

          Go for the milk based ones if you must (the brown sugar was passable and the matcha one)

          I blame the "tiktok hack" reported by news.com.au for even contemplating to buy them. Joke's on me

            Way too floury like you say, it's just not a nice milk tea.

            This set on the other hannd (J Way) was very good for home made, it's close enough and I enjoyed it. Night and day difference between this and the woolies one.

        Avalanche is pretty bad. Funny taste and the pearls are average. Just became viral on social media and sold out pretty fast. Now heaps on the shelves as people tried once and realised how bad it was

          +1 for this as well. The pearl texture was pretty bad. The textures of their pearls is like the outside of real tapioca pearls… gooey and not chewy… didnt get all the hype from social media was about at all.
          Don’t waste your money on it. If you must… BBT club is def way better and more legit.

      Theyre not that great… They include a paper straw which is… get this… smaller than the diameter of the pearls????

      Use your own straw that you've pilfered from a bbt place, or buy a metal straw. Those ones wont cut it at all.

      As for the taste itself, I always end up with powder even if I use hot water to start it, and its not that good. For its price, to half satisfy a craving, maybe, but you're better off buying pearls and making milk tea separately using condensed milk.

      Those are great! They usually include dehydrated red bean instead of pearls. But the powder will be very similar to this.

    If you already have milk, tea bags, and honey/sugar at home, a 1kg bag of tapioca pearls is about $9.
    1kg of tapioca makes dozens and dozens of worth.
    There's no reason to buy this at all, this wouldn't even save you any time.

        But I do see that this has the pearls pre-coated in sugar, so it will end up saving you about 5 minutes to let the pearls soak up honey.

    There's no need to get political. Taiwan exports billions of dollars worth of goods to mainland China every year and vice versa and people from both sides have no problem buying from each other. Not sure what the fuss is about here in Australia

        AFAIK "Chinese Taipei" is only used in Olympics and other international organisations. Officially China refers to Taiwan as the "Taiwan Region" or "Taiwan Province" so "Taiwan" (without any qualifiers) is a relatively neutral term to use in trades etc.

    the missus bought the avalanche bubble tea flavour and it was mehh for me

    i know its exy but im happy just to get it at chatime or one of those asian shops whenever i see one, luckily i don't have one that close or else i might get addicted lol

    I recommend buying the thai tea leaves in bulk (from any Asian supermarket) and making it yourself.

    You will need:
    1Tbsp leaves
    2tsp sugar (or brown sugar)
    2tsp sweetened condensed milk
    2tsp evaporated milk

    Instructions:
    1. Place the leaves in a muslin cloth and submerge in 250ml boiling water, allowing to steep for 5 minutes.

    1. In a cup or mug, mix 2tsp sugar and 2tsp sweetened condensed milk.

    2. Pour in tea and stir to combine.

    At this point you can add tapioca pearls, and serve hot or over ice - whatever your preference.

    Definitely makes more than 6 servings!

        Happy to help! Same recipe as above but instead of thai tea leaves, swap for orange pekoe leaves. Add 3 slices of lemon about 0.20-0.25cm thick and sugar to taste. I find a small amount of sugar, a tsp at most, gives it a nice kick. Alternatively, you can make a syrup with a tsp of sugar and a tsp of boiling water!

        Edit: And omit the condensed and evaporated milks!

    Bought the avalanche ones from Woolies milk tea version. They were decent.

      The manufacturer's website has some instructions:

      1. Take a packet, make a tear, and microwave for 20 seconds (1000 wattages)

      2. Pour 3-4 oz of boiling water into a cup, Add one packet of tea powder, and Stir

      3. Add ice (6~8oz) to the cup and the Boba packet, a straw, and enjoy!

      For reference 3-4oz is about 85-115mL

    Just got mine and these are terrible, the pearls are bland and not chewy, and the drink isn't sweet. Easy to make but not a nice drink at all
