Cheapest it’s been (camel says a bit lower recently but it didn’t have free postage with prime until today or so - I just kept checking it in the hope it changed from $43 postage to free… and it did. Hehe).

Hard to find waffle makers with ceramic based non-stick surface (opposed to Teflon style which I don’t trust after water dark waters)

  • UK power plug?

    • Yeah but voltage is same same so just get a pin converter style adaptor

      • No need for an adaptor, you can buy an AU plug from Bunnings for $3 👍 Just chop the UK plug off, and screw the three wires in.

This is true and what I would do and it's also illegal here in Australia to DIY (not illegal in most countries)

          • @ruprectaus: If a licensed sparky did ot. Still illegal?

          • @ruprectaus: Are you sure it's not legal ?

            https://www.agshowsnsw.org.au/files/Other%2520Forms/Electric… says :

WHO IS ALLOWED TO REPLACE A PLUG OR SOCKET?
Plugs and extension cord sockets may be replaced by a non-electrically trained person, provided the
person has been trained and found competent to fit plugs and sockets according to the manufacturer’s
            instructions.

The three wires are all colour coded, and full instructions come within the plug packaging anyway, so it's a very simple job.

            • @Nom: yep as3000, they can do things in NZ we cant in Australia for wiring, not sure if aussies are dumber and need to be protected, or kiwis are smarter and can do more things across a broader skill set themselves …… not sure what the electrocution rate is in homes is per person in NZ vs Australia …..

              • @garage sale: It's probably tied to the insurance industry, not something that warrants actual protection of people.

I read a review suggesting this can also be used to make toasties, grills, omelettes. Can the plates be swapped for others like in the tefal version?

  • Hope this gets sandwich plates as they're easy to swap.

    • https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00KM15VWY - Toastie version is similar priced - I bought both! Not seen a deep fill sandwich toaster for many years - easy for quick breakfast egg toasties and such…

Not duraceramic unfortunately. That's the only reason I'd get this over the tefal, which has various plates on the market.

        • Agreed. The more options in plates the better, get more use and overall bang for your buck. Even cast iron ones not necessarily ceramic, I'm waiting for one to come out of Japan since appliance makers there recognize the smaller space in Japanese homes and design appliances to be more multi-functional.

Would love to find one with the range of plates that [ Vitantonio ] (https://www.vitantonio.jp/products/waffle-baker/VWH-50-R.htm…) have (search the page for 'option plate'.

@loki niflheim: That looks similar to the Tefal Snack Collection https://www.amazon.com.au/Collection-SW852D61-Multi-Function… - both use teflon coated replaceable plates.

            • @bargainshooter: Agreed. I have the previous model that's smaller and that experience taught me to research for available plates first before committing to buy another Tefal. Finding the extra plates in Australia is a lot more difficult than in Europe or US, and when they're out of stock they are hardly ever in stock again. They trap people to buy the Snack Collection with the 'replaceable plates' gimmick, but finding the extra plates is a PITA. Vitantonio's extra plates are much more readily available, you can just Google ビタントニオ プレート and you can even find stores in Japan that sells all 12 plates.

This Breville DuraCeramic Maker would be in my basket 2 seconds flat, sale or no sale if they don't design it as a single-purpose appliance battling with other appliances for counter space and kitchen storage.

              • @loki niflheim: Agree - it took me a few months to collect my set of snack collection plates. I have 6 which I'm happy with but really want to move away from teflon. There's a growing market for a similar system with ceramic plates - even stainless - imho.

    • There are/were three models - the plain plain sandwich press vst071, now discontinued, and vst074 for toasties. But can't find individual plates anywhere…

      • Yeah I can’t find plates for sale either.
I’m assuming the heating elements etc. would be compatible and all.

Hopefully the duraceramic toastie version goes on sale also, would probably use that more than waffles.

Yet another Breville device you knew you never needed. And will probably never use after the first week of eating waffles 7 days straight.

    • Been dying to DIY waffles but have refrained from getting one because of this. If only you could buy the toast plates for this one!

    • We've been making waffles and eating them for years, well, my parter makes them and I do most of the eating, we've been getting buy with a cheap K Mart one we bought.. well.. years ago, it has been used to nearly death, (usually once a week or so) so I am thankful to the OP for posting this :) Not sure if I shoudl get it our not after the toastie points made by others though

Edit: $39.61 shipping for me so its a no :)

      • kmart one i have is round, these are square , square is better as you make extra and reheat in toaster, will buy one of these to add to my 3 waffle makers i already own and see which becomes the new favourite.

  • Thumbnail got me - thought it was an MFD.

I actually picked up the Delonghi version last week.

Comes with sandwich plates, but you can get the Waffle and Grill plates from Amazon. Saves having multiple devices, and removable plates can be washed in the dishwasher!

    • They have a Teflon coating like the Tefal version. this one is superior because it uses a ceramic coating on the plates. But it doesn't have a swap system like yours and the tefal which is disappointing.
